eyemd1 Posted November 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2011 Which side is more scenic on the northbound cruise-port or starboard? We will be doing Glacier bay and College Fjord as part of th itinerary. GL
Rare Coral Posted November 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2011 Star-board for sailing - so you see the land while sailing. I don't remember for GB and CF but it is often best to be on deck (as opposed to balcony for those).
chipmaster Posted November 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2011 IMHO on inside passage out of Vancover really both sides will be good. Once in Alaska I'd say get out on top side as nothing like being up and out to really enjoy it. Yeah the baclony is nice, but you need to feel the wind and openess to really really enjoy it! jimpod Posted November 24, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 24, 2011 When we were on the Island Princess to Alaska the captain turned the ship round in both Glacier Bay and College Fjord so it didn't really matter which side you were on.

GL It doesn't really matter. For most of the trip there is beauty on either side. We had a port balcony northbound and loved it. Check out the aft open decks for some great views also. satxdiver Posted November 25, 2011 #8 Share Posted November 25, 2011 We had a starboard balcony on our north bound voyage. The captain did turn the ship 180 degrees in Glacier Bay so we could see both sides of the bay. We loved our view and the cruise itself.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 25, 2011 #9 Share Posted November 25, 2011 Starboard would be better northbound when in the inside passage. The best spot by far for Glacier Bay is getting out on the open deck so you get a 360 degree view. We don't worry which side we pick though. We focus on where on the deck the cabin is located. Again for Glacier Bay I highly recommend going outside on the upper deck and enjoying all of the scenery including looking for sea life. mr green Posted November 25, 2011 #11 Share Posted November 25, 2011 Go port side. Reason Glacier Bay, most of the action is portside, WHEN THERE IS A FULL RANGER COMMENTARY ON TV. Just turn up the sound on TV, and if you get cold, go in for a few minutes, we have a flask of coffee [buffet], that we can warm up with. On the open deck, if you go inside for any reason you loose your spot. john

Agree..We had a portside on our RCI northbound and we actually ended up also having the best town views when we were docked in all our ports...Especially the sail out of Vancouver under LionsGate Bridge past Stanley Park..it was an amazing way to start off on our cruise !!!
