A British Mans First Cruise - Enchantment of the Seas

Did everyone just go to bed at the same time? 10PM calling...

Im still here, obsessively refreshing the ships position. She does seem to be mostly stationary. We will obviously have to wait for someone on the ship to check in. Hopefully they are all having so much fun that they are not making updating us a priority. :)

yes but our inquiring minds on land MUST know...:p

it sort of LOOKS like she's headed back..i keep checking to see if a pilot boat or something comes out....this could keep me up late...

This has to be taking it toll on the passengers buy now, even if it's a free cruise. I was on the century last year and we went dead in the water for an hour or so. not fun, not knowing how long your going to be broken down. Hope they get it moving soon for everyone's sake.

Hard to sleep while this is going on. Hopefully, they're just running some tests, the pax are having a great time and noone is aware that many of us are glued to our PCs...waiting for an update!

The original schedule said 3 pm for Nassau, but if you check the Vessel Detail it says destination: Nassau 2-23-12 at 1900 which is 7 pm. Normally cruise ships will go close to their destination and kind of circle nearby. My DH who is a retired US Navy Captain talks about how they used to see cruise ships in the Caribbean sailing in circles at night because the distance between ports was so small that they had time to kill.

no that 1900 is UTC which i THINK is the same as GMT so it's around 2 or 3 PM depending on whether nassau is in Atlantic time

it is 314 Nautical Miles....by my fractured math, it does not add up

I should know that lol. I use utc at work and yes it's the same as gmt. No, the math doesn't add up, unfortunately.

My 2 cents... Stopped all progress to bring down the main motor so that they can bring BOTH motors back online simultaniously...

Please oh please oh please be a good guess...

It's been about an hour since they stopped.

I'm pretty sure this was planned. Changed course to 090 due east a bit then abruptly stopped. They are now basically adrift. I'm sure just continuing to work on the ship. They did not want to stay in port for the night. Off the coast they can open the casino and don't have to pay Port Canaveral for the extended mooring.

They have two conventional screws (not azipods). Highly unlikely they have lost all propulsion. Whatever they are doing was likely planned.

guess that makes sense...and they're still close enough to PC if needed..

i'm just still puzzled at how it's mathematically possible (or not) to get to NAS by 3-ish tomorrow..that's when they were scheduled i THINK...

if you click on the little blue thing a box comes up...it's in that someplace..

BTW when are they scheduled for Nassau? tomorrow right? If it's 314 NM(ish) isn't that sort of mathematically impossible?

I am really just trying to figure this out...or are my days off:eek:

I tried converting NM to statute miles and knots to MPH but heck, I just usually get ON the ship and not think about getting from point A to B...

thanks for any clarification

simple math

300 miles @ 3 mph = 100 hrs

@ 6 mph = 50 hrs

12 25 hrs

I think it's taking more of a toll on us posters, vicariously living the life of the cruisers on board! We cruise on Enchantment on April 7th, hope all the bugs are worked out by then. In the meantime, go to bed, and maybe by morning all will be made clear.

Who cares about the math at this time of the night? :D I just hope for everyone waiting around on pins and needles, she's just hanging around waiting to get underway. We circled around in the Atlantic while we were waiting to dock in Bermuda. We were caught up in a low pressure area that wouldn't leave. It was too stormy to get in through the "cut" at St. Georges, so we hung around out in the ocean. We missed a day in Bermuda. I missed a special banquet we had been invited to.. but I didn't pout (for very long). It was still a memorable trip.. and I have a feeling this one will be memorable to the px that are on this cruise!:o

Here's wishing smooth sailing and fun times for the duration of this memorable trip!
