A British Mans First Cruise - Enchantment of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Just found this thread today. My daughter and best friend are on Enchantment celebrating recent college grad. She's cruised several times with our family but this is her friends first time. Have heard from them several times. They were thrilled with OBC, and ecstatic over cruise refund. They also have been in solarium a lot. Say hello from mom if you see them. Glad it's getting better for you,I have been on Enchantment twice. Once we were supposed to go to Bermuda but hurricane sent us to Bahamas instead. We refer to that as our Berhamas trip. As others have posted, a bad day on cruise is better than any day at work. Have fun! Renee

Hello One and All!

What a difference a day makes. As soon as I posted yesterday things began to get better and better. I started off the day with a gorgeous breakfast of pineapple pancakes in the windjammer. Never had these before and they tasted amazing. We then stopped off for game of bingo, which has grown on me a lot and I now enjoy it :D. The seas started to calm down as the day progressed and thanks to some good advice, i've been munching on green apples to combat the motion sickness. We relaxed a couple hours away in the solarium, where I managed to get into the hot tub for the first time. It was so warm and but me into such a good mood. At dinner out waiter Antonio has been very kind to us, especially to my gf who had been suffering from motion sickness the previous day. I shall reward him later in the cruise. After dinner we went to the casino. For me it was the first time ever inside one and after ten minutes of walking around I hit the beginners blackjack tables. Our enjoyed my time there and came out with more then I went it. Sadly dear gf didn’t have so much luck on slots so with her losses we came out about even ha ha. We caught the cant stop the rock show and it was frankly amazing. The singing and dancing were the perfect end to the day. Last nights sleep was the best ever for me, and if it wasn’t for my gf putting big light on to goto the toilet I would still be there. Weather is gorgeous at the minute and we have calm seas. So I’m going to head to starbucks and get up on deck. I'll report in either tonight or first thing in morning.

Sorry with how negative yesterdays post was. I think hearing the bad news from the captain first thing in the morning and having to cheer up my gf, put me in a bad mood. Sorry if I bummed any of you out with it. Things are getting better as many of you said they would, and im having a hell of a time now :D

Take Care,

I have been keeping tabs on your story since you began telling the tale, and I am so pleased that everything seems to be looking up for you and the missus now.

As a fellow Brit, I had to chuckle at the "Turned the big light on" comment - not a Peter Kay fan by any chance ?

I can relate to your experience in so much as the time and expense it takes to travel to the US to board a cruise ship, but as someone who has been lucky enough to have done this on a few occassions now, I really hope you have a better second half to your holiday so that you can put your refunded cruise money back to good use. I have had genuine, positive, life changing experiences doing cruising from US ports, so I hope you manage to experience the best that cruising and the hospitality of our US cousins have to offer.

I have always found I enjoy spending some time ashore first in the States, before jumping on to a ship to visit the Caribbean, especially in the winter months, so very rewarding. The best time of the year for sure to get out of our cold, grey, drizzly weather and get some sun on your back.

Anyway, here's hoping that you enjoy the rest of your holiday, get a few cold ones down your neck, and make the verey most of it - you will be back at work before you know it !!!!

Cheers

Paul

To OP: I started following your posts yesterday and went back to the very beginning to read it all. I'm so happy things have improved, and I would encourage you to seek out some Bonine (meclazine - anti-nausea medication) for your girlfriend. It is typically taken once a day, as a preventative measure against seasickness. If she starts taking it immediately, it could help ward off any future episodes of seasickness.

Have a wonderful time, and I am so happy you chose to take the Enchantment out of Baltimore for your first cruise. I do hope you will spend some time in Baltimore and/or D.C. before you head back to the U.K. We have so much great history here that we'd love to share with you!

Welcome to the wonderful world of cruising, and I look forward to future posts.

Glad to see that things are looking up. OP,You did not say if you were visiting Baltimore or DC. If you are the weather is looking up here. It might hit 60 degrees today.

At the moment the OP is visiting Port Canaveral.

The other link regarding this cruise has been locked and closed down to to some nasty arguments and name calling that has started.

Some of the passengers that got off are now talking about sueing, and the response from most of the frequent cruisers was to tell them they had no grounds. Other complaints of people getting off was that the kids were running around.

Since I have cruised a lot, I would like to offer some advice. First....If you want warm weather, then cruise out of a Florida or Caribbean port. Baltimore is cold in Feb. and the ocean is cold until you get to Florida. The days at sea will be cold. Also, Florida in Feb. can also be chilly, so to be sure of nice weather book a Southern or Western Caribbean cruise.

Second: If you don't like kids, don't sail when schools are out for a vacation. This week many of the northern schools close down for a winter break and that is why there are 600 kids on board. The same will be true for Christmas, Easter and summer vacations.

Third: If you know you get sea sick, or if you haven't cruised before, be sure to take sea sick meds before you start to cruise. No one can guarrantee the weather or the waves and you can't blame the ship company for that.

This was a comment made before the other site was closed....

The very SAME people on this cruise saying the ship should have never left Baltimore would been have the very SAME people that would have been throwing a fit if the ship hadnt of left Baltimore

This self entitlement stuff makes me sick. Not to mention the name calling ("you're an idiot") and personal insults to all our retirees on this board are hopefully grounds for immediate banning from this website.

No need for that garbage here

Most of us agreed with that statement.

I hope for those who stayed on board you will have a safe trip back to Baltimore and that the sea conditions and weather will improve.

I hope that Pr1vatepiles is having a marvelous time now! Look forward to any updates and pictures you may have taken!

And if anyone has any updates regarding Enchantment's condition, it would be much appreciated if you could post, as I'm on the March 10th sailing for this same itinerary! The ship condition updates were the only reason I was reading the other thread. The name calling and nasty posts were getting a bit much for me to have to read:(

At any rate, please enjoy the remainder of your vacation Pr1vatepiles and wishing you only the best!:D

I couldn't agree more! Baltimore isn't the place to sail out of in February if you are dead set on a tropical vacation. The Bahamas are risky in the winter, as well. We learned that the hard way in December-- it was warm (70's) but not the hot Caribbean weather we are used to!

I'm looking forward to updates, too. I thought his/her reporting was unique, given it was a first time trip to the U.S. and a first time cruiser, too.

Hope to hear more.
