Emerald Princess Dancers

I just got off the Princess. We did the 10 day sailing leaving on March 7th.

My comment is about the Emerald Princess dancers. Of the ten nights of entertainment they were part of about 5. They are clearly very talented but....the women's costumes were extremely bare and every show they did was VERY sexually charged. I found it offensive and didn't attend after the first one and half shows.

Imagine this: The song "Let's get Physical" is playing, the women put collars on the men, the men get on all fours, the women hold leashes and both the men and women are gyrating sexually. No joke. Lots of women bending over and showing nearly bare bottoms, etc. Now, I know that I see bikinis on the sun decks all day. It was more the sexual movements and inuendo in every performance that I found offensive.

My question is this: Am I the only one who didn't like this? Is this common on all Princess ships? My relatives have sailed on other lines (Carnival, Celebrity, Oceania, etc.) and told me they haven't seen anything like that.

I wish they would have just showcased their talent and not their sexuality.

If you were offended, I recommend that you make your feelings known to Princess. I'm sure that they are sensitive to providing entertainment that does not cross over into areas which people find disturbing. I think that they would take your criticism seriously.

I've learned that a well-written letter sent to the right person or persons can be very effective.

Well, I will admit that the "Let's Get Physical" section of Boogie Shoes was my least favorite number in my least favorite show. I'm not a prude by any means, but it was a little bit in poor taste in my opinion. I did not find any of the other numbers particularly offensive, but then I'm a dancer and have been in a ton of musicals myself, including Carabet and Sweet Charity, so I've probably done stuff on stage that would make most of the Princess shows look pretty tame. I've been around theatre my whole life, so I guess I'm just used to somewhat skimpy costumes and moves that could be considered suggestive. A number of shows come to mind - Chicago, Fosse, Victor/Victoria, to name a few, that have some pretty risque numbers, and I didn't see anything on the Emerald that was even close to that.

I've seen "Boogie Shoes" and don't recall any dance number that I thought was inappropriate for a Princess audience. I've been more offended by some of the dance numbers performed by children on Lifetime TV's Dance Moms

Whatever floats your boat.

I was very unhappy to learn that the pole dance portion of Boogie Shoes, which was always a favorite for me, was cut because ONE person complained about it (I was told). I think that if you don't care for something, don't go to see it, but don't try to stop others from seeing it who might enjoy it.

Our son knows the dance captain on the Emerald. He'll definitely pass on your comments. And if you were offended, I hope you made your feelings known to Princess at the end of the cruise.

I know! Wow, I really hate reality shows like that. Everything is exaggerated for the camera.

Well, the OP does have the right to his opinion and if he wants to warn folks that might share his sensibilities about something he deems offensive, then that's cool too...

IMHO, Princess attempts to put on Broadway-type shows and what the OP describes falls right in line with that... not offensive at all in my mind.

Gee, I hope the OP never goes to the ballet: The male dancers wear tights that cling to their po-pos, and through which you can clearly discern their junk. And then there are those naughty paintings in Pompeii, and those naked Rubens ladies, and the pee-pees visible on the Sistine ceiling, and the sexy statuary in India....

Oh dear....the restraints didn't hold...

Yeah, that Cole Porter's "What a Swell Party" sure is one raunchy show!

I have never found any of the Princess shows to be even close to racey. I can't believe the original poster could be serious. Perhaps they would find a retreat a more suitable vacation rather than a cruise.

:D Hey there, Shepp. Mike and I are going to Chicago this weekend to see the ballet. We'll get our fill of those "packages" ;)

The shows that the OP described do not bother me in the least. If fact I might go to a few of them two or three times!! I think princess could use a bit more action. However, I do not like comedians that use adult language and tell adult jokes. So I just don't go to those shows. But some people like them so more power to them. I am not writing a letter of complaint. I could care less if people other like that type of show.

Sometimes I wonder if we, in the States, are too much hung up on sex? I guess we are a country of extremes--going all the way from prude to porn. Do you think that Europeans have a healthier attitude? Just wondering.

I can only assume that you didn't enjoy the "XXX" rated midnight comedy show.

It probably was standing room only - as usual. :p

On Princess???

I usually only see these on Carnival--but I would not mind if Princess had them too.

I was on the Emerald a few years ago and became friends with one of the dancers. I do not recall anything being offensive. I think it is all in how you perceive things. Those dancers work really hard and they do the best with what Princess gives them. I say if something offends you then don't watch, but don't ruin it for the rest of us. Don't sail Costa because their women's attire is very revealing.

You always were a shameless hussy.

Kind of like me, comes to that... :)
