Noisy neighbours on rccl

Recommended Posts

Only once...we had a family in a family suite next door. The kids were always left with the Grandmother to watch in the room.

The kids did nothing but yell and scream, bounce off the walls, constantly were trying to open the connecting door...totally out of control!

Imagine trying to sleep with someone jiggling-turning the door knob all night!

I would see the Mom and her friend in the CL, but the kids were always in the room with the grandmother. They never went out.

At 1am, every night, they would have circle time with singing and clapping, probably to get them tired and to bed.

There was not much we could do. My wife and I speculated that the kid's may have had some disorder, and not their fault. Mom was probably looking for, and needing some respite.

I'm an early riser, usually a 4am. I would get my coffee and watch TV, with the volume up higher than needed!!;)

One things for sure...I will never get a connecting room again!!!!!

We had neighbors where the guy seriously snored as loud as a bulldozer. On top of that he had 2 minute belching attacks where each burp lasted for at least 30 seconds. Imagine hearing in the middle of the night "BNBGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUURRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!" "BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBHHHHHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRPPPP!!!"

I didn't do anything. Just covered both my ears with the pillow and cried myself back to sleep.

That must have been awful for you , I praise your tolerance , I don't think I could have been as patient ,surely it was your right to complain ? I wouldn't let that sort of behaviour carry on , I am so impressed with your concern that the children may have a behaviour problem but even so , I wouldn't accept that it's right for them to ruin my holiday .I have been lucky that so far I have never had a problem with noisy neighbours , think I will avoid being so close to any family rooms now though :D

That made me laugh, would not have been laughing though if in your position.

We have actually had two occasions. the first we were in a GS next to the RS on Serenade. We had to complain one night about a very loud party going on in the early hours from that suite. What embarrassed the crew was the fact that the person playing the piano was the ships piano player! On the same cruise we complained about the noise of a late night party from the pool deck and I mean late! Both instances were sorted out on board by guest relations and when we got home we had two cruise certificates to use on a future cruise....very happy :D

On the second occasion this time on Enchantment we had a couple of very anti social teenagers in the adjoining cabin. I knocked one night and confronted them. Needless to say it continued on other nights. Eventually security got involved after I went to guest relations and the problems were sorted. they did raise an eyebrow however at my knocking on their cabin door and confronting them. Just the way we do things over the pond I said. Anyway got a bottle of champagne for our trouble.

Other than that, no problems at all and no I am not a serial moaner...

OK Who has experienced the neighbours from hell whilst cruising and what did you do about it?

I've tried to get my wife to quiet down! Seriously, never had any problems, but on Allure we had inter-connecting cabins and my wife kept slamming the doors on the vanity when she was getting ready for dinner. I kept expecting a knock on the door but it never came.

We had neighbors who would get back to the cabin at about 1 AM every night (which is fine). What wasn't fine was that they'd immediately go on the balcony and start making lots of noise. I went outside on the first two nights and told them that we were trying to sleep. They quieted down for about five minutes but would gradually get louder over the course of the next hour. On the second or third night I called the hotel manager from our room. Two people from security came and told them that if they received another complaint they'd be put off at the next port and would be responsible for getting themselves home. We didn't hear a peep after that.

Not on RCL but on Carnival..we had a corner Aft Cabin on the Glory...bad design & bad neighbors...but everytime our neighbors would go in or out of their cabin the door would SLAM!! I mean loud enough to wake the dead...of course they were night owls..in & out all night long...left a note on their door one day asking nicely if they would please try to control the door...no effect at all...finally knocked on the door after one particularly LOUD slam...guy apologized...but it was the morning we were leaving the ship so of course it didn't matter then....first time my husband & I could not wait to get off a cruise ship....what made it even WORSE...we had been upgraded from this cabin to a Suite...but "I" fought to get the cabin back because of the huge balcony!

It wasn't RCCL, but another cruise line that we won a cruise on. Family in the cabin next door with a toddler & an infant. Lots of crying & screaming every night & early morning. Even worse, there was some type of work being done in the hallway and the workers started about 5:00 with their power drills etc. I know they were trying to do it while people were not in the hallways, but I would rather walk around them than be awakened that early.

So far I've only had two instances. The first occurred on my very first cruise. This was before there was an age limit on babies and the couple next door brought their 2-month old. He wasn't sleeping through the night yet so would wake up every 2-3 hours and scream. Sometimes his parents could get him quieted in a couple minutes but other times he would cry for 10-15 minutes. There isn't anything you can do about a screaming baby. I think he was either colicky or seasick too so that didn't help. On a ship you can't change to a different hotel so you just have to deal with it. That baby is the reason that my husband refused to get on a cruise ship for over 4 years. The ship experience was great but we both came back exhausted from lack of sleep.

The second instance was three years ago on a Med cruise. We had an aft cabin. The people next to us were part of a group of around 20-30 Italians traveling together. I think they were the only ones in the group with a balcony. The first night, we returned to the cabin around midnight and the party next door was in full swing. The music and talking was loud, even in our cabin with the door closed. I knocked on their door and asked if they could quiet things down. I know at least some of them spoke English because I had heard them speaking it, but the person who answered the door either didn't understand me or didn't want to understand me because he slammed the door in my face and the party continued. We called the front desk who sent security. Security asked them to quiet down, which they did for about 15 minutes, then the party started again. We called again. I'm not sure what was said, but the party did not resume that night. For the rest of the cruise, we would call security around midnight each evening so they could shut down the party. The Italians knew who was calling security about them. Every morning there was a pile of beer cans and cigarette butts from their ashtrays dumped on our balcony.

I know it can be a problem with that kind of neighbor, but thanks for a good laugh this morning.

We didn't have the beer cans and butts on our balcony, but everything else you said was the same.

Also part of a big group and they all met in one cabin....right next to ours. We had to call security every night, not once but 3 times a night.

Also told the concierge and he said they were D+ and also came into the lounge. He talked to them and we had one quiet night, next night, back to the same ol' same ol'.

I had two incident that never got involved with security in it.

On the Explorer back in 08, I heard a kid jumping up and down on our first or second night. I said oh no are we gonna hear this all the way thru 11 days of cruise. Thankfully, it was just that one night.

The other was on NCL. I can't remember which day of cruisinf it was. Anyway, I heard some kid was running down the hallway like 3 times. I couldn't understand who let this kids running when they don't realize it make the vibration to the cabin. So, I took a peek out in the hallways and the father was standing watching her. I didn't have to say a word because he could see the expression on my face meaning to stop her doing it. After that i heard two more run and it was gone.

I work in a metal fabrication facility. Metal stamping actually. Bang, bang, bang as the 300 ton press slams the metal. So foam ear plugs are available by the box full. I always pack a handful just incase but have never had to use them. The one time I didn't take them was on HAL and we were above the casino. All night we could hear.... WHEEEEEL OF FOOOORTUUUNE" every few minutes.

Upcoming cruise we have virtually met one of our neighbors via Roll Call - happened on last cruise as well (and my parents were on other side of us) so that one was really peaceful.

Female voice kept repeating "oh my god, oh my god, oh my god" and I don't think she was praying!;)

On our last night on Allure our next door neighbors got into a huge physical, screaming fight (husband & wife). Sounded awful! I think family and security arrived at the same time. It sounded pretty intense :(.

On Serenade, our neighbors both had voices that carried and would visit on the balcony mornng and night. They were't trying to be loud....just had those voices. Also, it's amazing how noisey plates and silverware can be in the morning on the balconies!

On our last cruise there were 2 young boys running up & down the halls. At one point as we were walking from our cabin to the elevators, they came running up behind us, and wanted us to move out of their way so they could run past us. I turned around and politely told them I would not move and that they are not supposed to be running in the halls.

As we were standing at the elevator, the mom came around the corner and gave me a dirty look and just stated "they're just children". My reply to her was that she was right, they are just children and that it was actually her fault as she should know better and pointed out to her that the ship isn't there for her to let her poorly behaved kids run amuck. That was the end of that. I didn't mean to be cranky, but I wont have my holiday disrupted by inconsiderate brats (of any age!).

We had a couple celebrating their 25th anniversary in the cabin next to us. The rest of their family had Promenade cabins across the hall. The "couple" had a balcony and the very large number and large members of the family ALL stayed on the balcony. I have no idea when they slept. The kids were constantly rolling things, banging into the wall between, they were scraping chairs about, their doors to the cabin were always open and they would yell from the cabin out to the balcony. It went on when I got up and was still going on when we went to bed. I heard every story they told, every contractor they chewed out, every relative they hated. YOu could see, from our balcony, that their balcony was overflowing at all times. They would be standing side-to-side it was such a tight squeeze. The old guy had some sort of heart problem on the last night and there was a big racket next door and outside in the hallway as the whole family congregated on the couple's balcony to discuss, drink, let the kids play. They were in the all auguing with the staff that they "needed inside the cabin" to pack their Dad's belongings, as he was in medical. Worst experience and only bad experience with neighbors we've had.

I'm jealous right now. I'd settle for just hearing it!

Whenever other people experience a cabin nieghbor who is loud or a table mate who is obnoxious; I think "hmm, that hasnt ever happened to me?" Then I start to worry "Maybe that IS ME!"

Seriously, we've been very lucky with cabin neighbors. I think the rooms are really well soundproofed to ordinary living and tv sounds. Of course once you get a group, music and cocktails, well, that's everyone's nightmare! We've not been as lucky with hotel neighbors, but at least in a hotel you can move to another room!
