You can bring your own Soda on Board?

Recommended Posts

 Hi I have read on some of the posts that you can...along with bringing a fold up/out cooler with your beer and or soda...Not sure if you bring this as a carry on or not. With Carnival selling the soda cards i was concerned that you were not able to bring any soda cans and or liters aboard. Please advise wisely to this first time cruiser..Thanks mates!

We went on the Sensation last may out of Tampa. We had a 12 pk. diet pepsi, 6 pk. 24 oz. bottles of Mt. dew, and 12 pkg. bottled water, in brown bags from the grocery store. Just put them through the x-ray machine, and proceeded along. No one said anything. Usually I pack a soft sided cooler in my checked luggage, and take along gallon size zip lock bags to keep ice in. Most of the time, the coolers leak if you put ice directly in them.

We have one piece of luggage that we fill with six-packs of soda (for a 7-night cruise). There's a "refrigerator" in each cabin, and we always ask the cabin steward to remove the "minibar" stuff they have in there as soon as possible. We then put our soda in there, and if it's not cold enough, we just use ice from the ice bucket to cool it down. By the end of the cruise, the soda is gone, and we've got another suitcase for all the souvenirs we've bought during the cruise.

I put 2 12pks of Diet Coke in carry-ons last summer on the Carib. Princess and no one said anything. I have to have a Diet Coke in the morning when I get up and I wanted to have them in my room. We bought soda cards for the kids and they were a blessing for the them to have because they could get something anytime they wanted.

It's been a while since my last cruise. We'll be on the Celebrity Infinity this time. Can you refresh my memory on how drinks are handled? I am speaking specifically about sodas, ice teas, milk and juices. Are some of the drinks free depending on what meal and at what location? For example, is milk and juice free w/breakfast but not other times? Or are sodas free if you go to the casual dining area where you help yourself but not in the nice dining room?

When we were on the Celebrity Century we brought soda back from a few ports (about a six pack each time). One time we brought it back in a grocery bag and it was obvious that we had it. (We actually brought back some bannana soda from St Thomas to put in our childrens sovenier gift pack).

According to the fine print in Carnival's brochure, you may bring "small amounts" of non-alcoholic beverages. No other description of amounts, it's up to the employee's discretion. Water and soda should not be a problem!

Funny how milk and juice are free since they cost more... hmmm, I think I'm going to skip the soda and the bringing it on board part... figure milk and juice are "healthier" anyway AND FREE! :-) I checked out 5 guide books from the library on Alaska! I'm so excited! I'm bringing one of them with me but will return the others soon so others can use them too!

I'm a retired Food & Beverage Director for hotels in New Orleans. I can tell you why the cruise lines charge for soft drinks and not milk, juice, etc.

All other beverages are purchased from large food vendors; i.e., Sysco, Alliance, etc., and there are discounts given for bulk purchases, of course.

Soft drinks are purchased strictly through the company. They don't sell their products through food vendors. F&B101.:)

I just got an e-mail from Carnival today regarding a booking I made yesterday which stated that it is not permissible to bring any beverages on board:( .

Huh? What exactly was the wording in that email?

I just called my Carnival PVP and asked her - she said she's never heard of that. A "reasonable amount" of soft drinks are allowed to be brought on board any Carnival ship. She said any new directive such as that is always brought to their attention immediately, so they can advise guests.

I , too would like to know the wording on that email. Like Cotton says--even on their web page it does say a reasonable amount of non alcoholc stuff could be bought on. We have always carried on a 12 pack of pepsi each cruise.

This was in the Welcome Aboard Carnival Cruise Lines e-mail sent to me on 5/3.

Liquor Policy - "We are sorry, but guests are prohibited from bringing beverages of any kind for consumption on board the ship". Then goes on to say if you're celebrating a special occasion that you could bring one bottle of fine wine or champagne.

I took the "beverages of any kind" to also mean soda and water, so I specifically asked my Carnival Personal Vacation Planner if that's what it meant. She said that it probably wouldn't be a problem to bring a six pack of each.

Thx MrsBoo. I have a copy of the Welcome Aboard brochure, and it reads:

"Liquor and Beverage Policy:

Guest are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board. Fine wine or champagne may be brought on board only during embarkation at the beginning of the cruise. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the dining room.

Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages. Excessive quantities to be determined at the discretion of security and/or embarkation personnel, will be confiscated and retained by Carnival until the cruise is completed."

In my opinion, two Cokes per passenger per day could not be considered excessive. Enjoy your cruise!:)

If the brochure states 'no beverages to be brought on board' the staff can over look your bringing beverages when you bring a reasonable amount.

But it does provide them with back up if someone over does it... I'm thinking a trolley filled with drinks, so they could provide for their family of 45.

This could be merely a legal nicety, to give them reason to toss the over doer overboard.

I saw sign after sign saying no liquor or weapons of any kind posted. I was pulling my small rolling cooler behind me with a 12 pack of Bottled beer and a few 20 oz bottles of diet pepsi in it. This rolling cooler fit thru the xray machine and nobody said a word or took it away from me. I also had a 12 pack of bottled water in my luggage. My cabin steward kept my little cooler full of ice thru the whole trip and I finished the last 2 beers after they closed the bar when we were 9 hours late pulling in to Port Canaveral. I drank them at the Casino bar and nobody cared. The bartender was even giving us ice for the Malibu Rum and Pineapple juice someone else had brought from their cabin. I guess it could have had something to do with us getting in so late.

Anyway....nobody took my beer, or my pop or my water. I just walked right on with it.
