Big groups on a cruise?

We had a group booked on our 3 night cruise. During the day, you barley noticed them. At night they were out in full force. They attempted to take over the comedy show by holding rows and booths. They had a private party in the club one afternoon. The party ended at 10p and then the club opened to the public. Well barley any of them left the club, which made it pretty much "their" club.

For the 80's tribute show they had several people reserving sections in the theater. The group was from a pop radio station. The people were friendly, but IMO Carnival totally catered to them and forgot about the regular passengers.

This worries me a little. I noticed when we first booked our cruise on the Magic for May 20th that a radio station out of Houston is doing a group cruise. I put it on roll call as I was afraid that the scenario you had happen would actually happen on our cruise. People on my roll call and on John Heald's facebook reassured me that they would not take over certain places on the ship, so that others would be able to enjoy the whole ship at all times. I stayed with the cruise and did not cancel. Hopefully, I didn't make the wrong decision back then because it is too late now.:(

When I went on my girlscruise in October there was a radio station from Miami on our sailing. I was a little concerned about the crowd that was going to be with them since it was a younger style music radio station. While it wasn't a large crowd, there were a few venues that were closed off for their private parties. Also, the bar at the casino had groups of people dancing there most nights that you couldn't get by or get near the bar for a drink. It didn't spoil my cruise but I would hate to be on a cruise that had a larger crowd.

We just rebooked our January cruise on the Liberty. Just didn't want to deal with a mob of people in one group. I think we will be a lot happier on a different cruise, even tho we are giving up Half Moon Cay. My countdown clock now says 253 instead of 267 days until we cruise!!

How many people were in that group? And did it seem to take over the whole ship?

There was about 1100-1500 and no it wasn't a take over, a lot of the time people did there own thing, there were a couple of "private parties" on board for those that booked with the group. You didn't know people were with the group until you saw them at the party, 90% of the people don't even know each other. People book with who they know!

Trutojc, I'am sure this group is a great group, and I want them to have a great cruise along with everybody else on the ship. With allot of thought DH and I decided not to be part of this cruise. On the facebook page it stated they have over 2,000 people going. This is on a ship that has only about 2,900 people. Just want everyone to have a good time. God Bless Ya All in what ever ya do!!

LynnAnne I completely understand, I'm not knocking your decision, to each it's own. I wanted to clear up any misunderstanding about the group let everybody know this is not a bunch of horny college kids running around a ship it's actually hard working adults enjoying vacation like anybody else but who choose to book under a specific group to get some extra perks!! :oI'm actually not going with this group this year because of the number of people as well, I had fun last year but I didn't participate in alot of the extra stuff that I paid for so I'll use my money for other things like for DOD's!!!:D:D

THought the same thing as the special "group rate" they are getting is close to double what we paid per person for our cruise.

I'm super late in responding to this but when we went on our cruise and that singles group was on it, I talked to one of them and he was shocked at how little we paid...but then we discussed it more and turns out they had private OPEN BAR parties basically every night of the cruise, stuff like onboard credits/bottles of wine waiting in their staterooms/group t-shirts included...plus a couple of excursions included as well, which is probably why the group price looks so much higher.

I am booked on this cruise an am a little apprehensive too. Doesn't matter what 'type' of group it is , but when you have over 1,000 people gathering for a cause it is bound to cause 'bigger line ups' or lack of space in any one lounge.

I emailed Keith, the president of the Grownandsexy to ask him what his numbers are at currently. He says "we are over 1,000 at this point". We are still 8 months out!

Everyone can make their own decisions. I am still contemplating  It could be that I am making a 'bid deal' out of nothing but I will never know....

They must be booking fast because my husband emailed the agent listed on their page and they only had 250 rooms booked as of Monday....so unless they have booked all quad cabins, either they are booking fast or he's "stretching it".

We have decided to move to the Valor a day later, they can have their fun and we'll have ours, without a large group onboard!

  • 1 month later...

I just learned about this group cruise today. My concern is more the noise level. We are in an aft balcony and according to their website, grownandsexycruise dot com, there are nightly parties from 11pm-3am and photos look as if they are on the lido deck. Also, parties on sea days from 11am-3pm.

Also, reading the website, if you do not book through this site, you pay a $100 to join the activities.

This cruise was chosen for the great price, the itinerary and how it fit into our schedule. I am a bit concerned over this now, well, I should ALOT concerned.

and it is a huge group... sometimes up to 2000 book! There is one picture of all the people in their white shirts on the lido deck...

I would not want to cruise with this group or any other group as large.. they seem to take over the lido, the lounges. etc. etc. Yes, they are just having a good time... I have no problem with that.... its just... I would rather not be on a cruise where groups that take over venues including the lido deck...

I would also like to know where you find out about these large groups sailing. I do feel that when the groups are so large, you should be informed when you book... it could definelty affect a person's vacation...

I agree that the problem most times is not the size of the group...but the fact that they move in MASS.

IF they all want to eat EARLY...then there is little room left for anyone else...etc

No Way, No How! Not even for FREE would I go on that sailing.

I am with you....not if they are advertising partying until 3AM....I am just to old for that.

I would rebook, we were on a cruise with over 450 Parrotheads, they took over the ship!! there were alot of lounges that were closed to the public, as well as the aft lido was completely taken over by them.

We rebooked years ago with there was a Lynard Skynard cruise with Evil Dick.

Now I am sure they all have a great time....but that just is not my cup of tea.

We simply moved it back one cruise and got on as they were getting off.

However, we did get to see all the smashed windows and stuff they tore up while they were there.
