Rare mizLORInj Posted August 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Hi all. Have not sailed those 2 months and I'm wondering if the Caribbean sea is warm enough -- you know, Caribbean warm? St. Thomas, Dominica, etc. We're toying with Feb or March . . . Thanks for your input.
Algebralovr Posted August 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Last winter, February was beautiful. Due to the location of the islands, the temperature shouldn't flux too much throughout the year. I already counting down the days until Feb again, for the sun and water. iheartbda Posted August 10, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2012 I agree with the previous poster. Did late Feb. and it was perfect :), while there was snow at home.:D
Ashland Posted August 10, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2012 We have done the Eastern Caribbean for the last few years in March...great weather...a favorite time for us :)
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 10, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Weather should be in the 80's. It's a very nice time to visit these Islands. Keith
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 10, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2012 We have cruised many times in Feb and Mar -- and the weather has been very nice.
Rare mizLORInj Posted August 10, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted August 10, 2012 What about water temp? We will want to be in the water at each port.
cb at sea Posted August 10, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2012 As long as you are IN the Caribbean, it will be warm enough for swimming. The Bahamas and Bermuda are NOT Caribbean countries, and their weather will be cooler...more like Florida. Your ports will be super-nice!
Jimnbigd Posted August 10, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Weather will be very nice in the Caribbean. Are you considering sailing from NY or NJ? (Maybe the Explorer of the Seas from Bayonne.) If so, obviously it will be cool/cold the first and last days of your cruise. If flying, you might check out cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico, for a southern Caribbean route -- like the Adventure of the Seas. And remember to allow extra travel time in case there are winter weather delays. My suggestion -- Cruise from San Juan. Fly to Puerto Rico a couple days before the cruise, and spend some time seeing San Juan. If the flight is delayed, you might miss some of San Juan but should still make your cruise (unless a winter storm shuts down NJ for several days -- we sure hope not). Note that these southern Caribbean cruises are port-intensive with maybe only one sea day, if that matters to you. Or, drive to Bayonne and take a 9 or 10 day Explorer of the Seas (might be worth it to save the airline cost) -- but allow plenty of drive time again in case of a winter storm. Rare mizLORInj Posted August 10, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted August 10, 2012 oh my first choice was to sail from NYC on NCL Gem or Bayonne on Explorer but the family vetoed as they don't want to lose the last day to cold weather! We're sailing from Port Everglades.
Jimnbigd Posted August 13, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 13, 2012 We're sailing from Port Everglades. Be sure to fly down early the day before, to allow plenty of extra time in case of winter weather (or other) delays. Which ship? Maybe the big Oasis or Allure of the Seas? (Oasis departs on Saturday, Allure on Sunday).
Gypsydrifting Posted August 14, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 14, 2012 We were in the Bahmas the first week of January. There were tons of people in the water, including us. We thought it was fantastic.
