Is this for Europe and transatlantic only?

That I don't know...the two I was attempting to book were for Canada/New England out of NYC....try a mock booking and it will tell you if the deposit is reduced....one thing I did notice....I tried to book a 2014 cruise from NOLA and it said 50% off deposit during the rate selection, yet when you got to the final page on that one it still listed $500 so it only applies to 2013 bookings like the promotion material stated that I read earlier today

Both of our cruises are up several hundred dollars. I remember when a sale could be a good one. Early nineties at Christmas there was a really good sale. I can understand why they can't make the cruises any cheaper, but wish they would not hype the sales so much. It is not only Carnival that does this tho. The other lines are just as bad. Guess it is called marketing.

i would think that for a lot of people not having to tie up so much money on a deposit is a good thing, especially if placing the deposit on a revolving credit card. might not be a sale as far as total price but it does help the pocket book for a time.

Yet some people prepay their tips months in advance before they even have to.

Go figure.

BTW, deposits used to be $200. Did that change? If so, who changed it?

I booked my Breeze cruise in December 2012. It was a Casino rate with$50 casino credit. I always get a balcony, but no ext. afts were available, so I picked Lido deck. A couple of days later I called Carnival and asked to be put on a wait list for an ext. aft balcony. They said others were in front of me on the list, but they would add me and call me if anything came up, which was doubtful.. I scour these boards a lot, checking the Carnival website about 5 times per day. Two days later in a mock booking I spy an ext aft on Empress deck for my sailing. I called immediately and after a few pvps' and a long discussion a $400 upgrade for the extended aft went to a casino rate of only $40 I jumped on it. No afts have been available since then. During this current sale my orig. casino rate for a balcony has dropped about $150 pp. I could call Carnival, but there is nothing to trade up for. Have to be happy with my current excellent room. I am still ecstatic! New ship, more restaurants, 5D theater, etc. Woot, Woot!
