Just back from the Golden Princess

We just did 14-day Hawaiian Cruise aboard the Golden Princess. The service on board this ship was totally amazing! In the Horizon Court, they cleared and reset tables within seconds of them being vacated. Then, as soon as we sat down, there was always someone right there offering us coffee and juice. And, they always kept my coffee cup full. We never had to get our own coffee or tea. In the MDR, the great service continued. We did Anytime Dining in the Bernini (all but one night) and had great service at every table we sat at. Service in the bars was also very good. The food was pretty good (except for many of the beef dishes) in both the MDR and the Horizon Court. The entertainment was excellent and they had plenty of show times to make it easy to schedule your evening. The recently moved the Casino to the 7th floor on the Golden Princess. The new casino is nice but I was not impressed with the selection of slot machines - they had a lot of the same kind of machine. The Cruise Director and Cruise Staff did a really great job with the "Cruise Cult Classic" passenger participation shows. We really enjoyed the cruise and can't wait to be back on the Golden Princess next year for the South American cruise.

Thank you for your review.

Regarding the "recent" move of the casino to the Promenade Deck, this took place 3 years ago for the Golden when they also moved the Crown Grill down to the Fiesta Deck, flipping their positions.

They left the cigar bar, Churchill's, on the Fiesta Deck rather than by the Casino. This leaves the casino less smokey than it could be.

What wonderful praise for the Golden Princess Staff. Our son is one of the staff members (in entertainment) so I'm definitely going to pass your comments along next time I talk to him.

How were your seas? The cruise that ended about a few weeks ago had terribly rough seas, so much so that the captain had to slow the ship way down and it was very late arriving into Ensenada. It caused so many problems! The captain warned everyone that they'd be late arriving into LA the next day so those that were flying home had to re-scheduled their flights. Then, the port agents in Ensenada allowed them to make a very brief, cursory stop there and they ended up making it back to LA on time. Of course, everyone was fuming angry and blamed the captain and crew. I felt so sorry for them! You can tell they were really beaten up by some of the passengers. I'm hoping your cruise was smooth sailing, not only for you, but for the crew as well. ;)

:)Will be on the Golden for the 4/24 cruise. Wondering if the casino is open during the evenings between the islands? Thanks for the information.

I just checked the Patters for my cruise (12/19/12) that I posted here:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1763342

The casino was closed on the Hilo and Honolulu days and opened at 9pm on the Lahaina day and at 7pm on the Kauai day. But we had Lahaina and Honolulu switched for the usual itinerary so I don't know if these times will be the same for the other sailings.
