What a great review - thank you! I love your pictures too - they are helping get by until we sail in April :-D

Do you recall what the red martini like drink from the Molecular Bar was? It looks yummy!

Thanks again :)

If you mean the steamy one:D it is called the Lucky Cat.........if you go to the OPs photo album(his link is in the first post) and look at the pics, they are labeled. You have to scroll over the pic and the name of it will pop up.......and yes,I had to ask how to do that!:p

We were the last of six ships to arrive in St. Maarten a little after 8:00.

Note the ship on the right is the former Celebrity Galaxy now cruising as the Mein Schiff 1. Also in port with the Reflection included the Independence of the Seas, Norwegian Epic, Seven Seas Navigator and Maasdam.

Tonights show was "Momentum". The show times were 7:15 and 9:00. We really enjoyed this show much more than "Reflection". More up to date music. Great vocals. Nice way to end the evening.

It's funny how everything is subjective. I sailed on Reflection twice in December and loved the Reflection show and disliked the Momentum show.

Also, I love the picture of the Reflection with the old Galaxy. Galaxy was the very first cruise I ever did and no other cruise has measured up to it for just the right mixture of value, service, and FUN, until Reflection. Thanks for posting!

We too have recently booked our first Celebrity cruise, onboard Reflection. We are also loyal RCI cruisers but have been looking at Celebrity for a while and have finally got round to making a reservation. After reading your comprehensive review I can't wait.

Thank you for the information! Very helpful! Now to find some pics of the menu to see what is in the "Lucky Cat" - it looks soo good! :)

Prior to the cruise we took advantage of the 1-2-3 promotion as did many other guests on board. We upgraded from the Classic package to the Premium package and it worked out well. Our two favorite places on board:

Molecular Bar

I just assumed(maybe I was wrong) that Barn Goddess was talking about the pic of the drink here on this thread..:)

Monday we arrived in San Juan around 3:00 to cloudy skies and on and off light showers. The Reflection was the only ship in port so it wasn't crazy as it has been in the past with multiple ships docked in Old San Juan. We decided to walk up to the Fort of San Cristobal which is not far from the ship. Since it was a cloudy cool day, it was actually pleasant other than the occasional sprinkle of rain. On the way back down we headed to the Parrot Club for a few drinks and appetizers and headed back to the ship.

Reflection docked in San Juan

We had planned to dine at Palio at the Old San Juan Sheraton but they were closed on Monday evenings. We decided to keep it casual and try out the Oceanview Cafe for the first time. I had read comments that the evening buffet was limited. Much more so than RCI but we found the opposite. It was a nice surprise to see all of the options available. We found the food here to be much better than expected and much better than our experiences on RCI. Also another huge plus is the outdoor dining area of the Oceanview Cafe aft which RCI is missing on most of their ships with the exception of the Radiance class. Celebrity does a much better job of keeping the tables clean over RCI also.

There was only one show tonight and it was scheduled at 8:30. We decided to skip the show as we saw a short segment of it in the Welcome Aboard show on Saturday evening and it wasn't our cup of tea. The Reflection cruised out of San Juan at 10:00 heading to St. Maarten.

How do you get to the seating in the last picture of this post?

Hi What a great review, the S class ships are really fantastic,

did you remember to transfer your Crown & Anchor status

over to Celebrity, if not you may want to check it out.

Take Care maybe we will meet on the Eclipse next March.

I contacted Celebrity prior to the cruise to set up my Captains Club account.

Cruisingator,

We were on your sailing. Did you catch the comedy show? There were a lot of walkouts but we stayed and it actually turned into an overall good show. I concur with everything you have written. The wife has decided Reflection is her favorite ship.

We did not attend the comedy show. Time got away from us.

Gordon,

Thanks for the great review.

Was there any action in the casino? What were the table minimums?

How crowded were the bars to get a drink, with everyone getting the 123 ?

Howard

Casino stayed pretty busy in the evening. I only played the slots so I can't help you on the tables.

Bars were pretty busy but getting bar service was not an issue for us.

  • 2 weeks later...

I really enjoyed reading your thread. It has been a long time wince we have cruises with Celebrity and this ship has caused me to have a lot of thoughts about coming back. Your pictures reminded me of how much I used to enjoy the Martini Bar. I have never been able to get martinis on RCI that I like as much as on X.

When we were in St. Maarten together I was trying to figure out which old X ship that was with us so thanks for finally clearing that up for me. And it looks like we both decided to book the train tour in St. Kitts.

Now I just have to figure out if our next cruise is going to be Reflection or Allure. After doing Navigator and Independence for our past two cruises I've been kind of set on having the Aqua Theater back but now I'm not sure what I want to do!

Thanks. I wasn't sure about booking Celebrity. I had read comments that made Celebrity sound a lot like HAL in respect to the ships being dead, no night life, etc but we did not find that at all on the Reflection. Of course a lot has to do with the time of year and length of the cruise but we really enjoyed our first X cruise.

The ship is beautiful and I did not miss the ice skating show or the Aqua Theater. There was plenty to keep us busy. The service and food were both great. A step up over that of RCI. Entertainment will not be as good as on RCI's two Oasis twins but I don't think that anything can compare with those two ships.

We have booked the Eclipse for the 14 night southern Caribbean in March of next year and will more than likely book the Summit out of Bayonne to Bermuda next summer. Our next cruise is on RCI in a few months. We won't abandon RCI but will more than likely lean towards Celebrity first. It's nice to have two cruise lines to choose from in place of just one. :)

We were CCL, then RCL (til Diamond) tried Celebrity(as Elite) and have been on Celebrity more than RCL since.

Love the large ships--Oasis is my favorite.

What is your overall feel thinking back an comparing the Reflection to the Allure/Oasis?

Thanks for the thread.

Gary
