MORE things Splendor ... NY style!

We were on the first sailing out of NYC (3/23) and had a GREAT time!!!

The ship was wonderful. The crew was outstanding. Our debarkation was delayed by about 2 hours, due to the South American sailing she was returning from. Made for a beautiful sailaway around sunset.

First few days were a bit rocky, but after that it was smooth sailing. The lido pool was kept covered until Bahamas. Truth be told, I was a little concerned about what it would be like sailing out in the colder weather, but I never felt like I missed out. Sailaway was a bit chilly, but after all the snow we have had this winter, it wasn't bad at all. The pool and lido area felt like we were in the tropics!

I believe someone asked about wine pairing. There was. We didn't go this time, but did go to the Steakhouse for dinner one night. (Our first time!) Why didn't we go sooner?? AMAZING!!!

The Canaveral/Bahamas itinerary wasn't the most exciting to me, but we actually ended up with this being one of our best cruises! Loved it, and loved the fact that it was an 8 day. Wish we were still sailing!

I feel bad for the Splendor. It is going to take a beating from the NY whining and grumbling crowd. Nothing worse than being on a cruise full of NYers, they trash the ship, get obnoxious and drunk(out of control drunk), and are never happy. The Poor poor Splendor, will need to be drydocked after NY.;)

Sounds like you are whining and grumbling Repo. I assume you are not from New York. As a life long New Yorker, I can tell you that we are generally nice people. Just don't piss us off:)

Just looked back for the other questions:

Yes, they had the cinnamon pastries for breakfast, but on the Punchliners Brunch days (at sea days) they had baskets of popovers. Something new and something delicious!

I did not try the coffee on Lido. Will have to do that next time. Dining room coffee was still so so. I would get my espresso at the coffee bar for a much needed caffeine fix!!

Being from NYC and growing up there, we are the best damn people you will ever meet. It's everyone else that sucks, said from a true NYer ;)

Have you ever spent time with a Scot? Gods chosen people.

The only thing we complain about are our neighbours. (And the worst one of all has just taken her seat beside Ol Nick in the burny place)

Anyway back to cruising. 10th June and The Splendour will do us all proud I am sure of that, as will the new friends we will make.

Actually 6 June would be 6/6. But what do you expect from a man in a skirt. :p

Well, see I got all flustered by the kilt and the backwards dates the Scots use and I got the date mixed up. We are sailing on the Splendor 10 June 2013 :D So will you be bringing bagpipes Mr Chappy or may I call you Happy? I do love bagpipes!

Yay - silly with all the food available but I do love those cinnamon yummies! I had heard about the baskets of goodies at the Brunch, but no one mentioned popovers. Now I love popovers, so now I definitely have to go to the brunch for more than just my free drink coupon.

Thanks to all who have shared your impressions! I'm so glad to hear some positive ones! I'm really looking forward to this cruise! 2 months ONE day - getting close!

Another question for the Splendor experienced ... What is the best way to get from the atrium/lobby to the aft part of the ship. We have an aft wrap on deck 6. I've been looking at the deck plans, and it seems like the galley gets in the way. I see there are 2 outside decks one on the Lobby deck and one on the Atlantic deck. Can you use either one of those to get from mid ship to aft?

I'm thinking of embarkation. Should we just take the elevators from the lobby up to deck 6 and walk down that long hallway? Looks like we are going to have to take those forward elevators because I don't see anyway to the one ones near the stern.

Oh ... and did any of you carry on a suitcase near the size that Carnival says you can carry on - 16"H x 24"W. I was quite proud of myself getting everything int a suitcase a bit smaller than that on our last cruise. But the port people gave me a hard time (I think they have a little something going with the porters ;) ). They didn't actually stop me, but one of them harassed me all the way up to the security check in. The suitcase fit through with no problem - lots of room to spare - and the security people didn't even blink.

I'm trying to decide whether the harassment was worth the convenience of having only one suitcase. If I check it, then I have to take another rolling suitcase - the kind that fits in the airline over head bin (we're not flying) with all the stuff I am not putting in checked luggage - camera, nook, laptop etc. Which is the lessor of two evils :D

I have Sailed out of NYC 10 times and the only Issue we ever had was some bad weather and that has nothing to do with the cruise line or the people.. As for Malcom I like the guy and we have had multiple cruises with him over the years from 2003 to 2011.. A change is good but if he is on in May I am fine with that..

Im just Glad we have a different ship sailing out of NYC this Year

Looks like we are going to have to take those forward elevators because I don't see anyway to the one ones near the stern. That is your simplest option. However, if you want to add some "excitement" to that walk you can take the staircase two levels up from the lobby to deck 5 and walk through the casino, etc on your way to your cabin.

So great to hear that - thanks! We're going in June, so I hope the weather will be warmer. We've done several early - mid June cruises before and found the weather generally good. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I was the one who asked about the wine pairing - we always enjoy that! We went to the steak house on the Miracle - because of the wine pairing! It was fantastic! We're celebrating 2 birthdays, so we're planning on 2 visits to the one on the Splendor. I will miss it being up in the Whale Tail - that was great on the Miracle and we ate at sunset.

I'm getting psyched! My ShipMate app tells me I have 2 months and ONE day - can't wait until it rolls over to ONE month ... even if it is plus 30 days ;)

Splendor doesn't have FTTF?

I asked John Heald about this on his FB page and he said he would let us know (I wasn't the only one who asked). They were supposed to roll it out fleetwide by the end of March, so I don't know what the hold up is.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that!

The Lobby deck outside goes all the way back but there are no doors. Outside on deck 4 is the lifeboat stations, not accessible to guest except in an emergency. At embarkation, you probably won't be able to get to your cabin when you board, at other times cross at deck 5 or deck 2.

Oh - rats! Well that's kind of dumb to have a deck with no doors!

My sister, who is traveling with us, is Platinum, so we get to board early with her. We were hoping that the Splendor would have FTTF by June so we could go to the room and drop the bags. If not, I guess we'll just do what we did on the Miracle and head up to the aft pool area to hang until we can get into the room. There is an elevator there that will take us down near our cabin.

Oh - I have another question! The Legend and the Miracle have huge awesome showers in the gym/spa area. Each one has a little area for clothes, towels and stuff with a bench, then there is the big shower with multiple heads - you can have many or a few. They were great! We left our husbands to deal with the shower in the room and we went up to the good showers :D

To those who were on a recent sailing... how crowded was the spa? I have a spa balcony booked for our February 2014 sailing on this ship and I am hoping it won't be crowded, will be heavenly to relax there on the sea days!!

I'm right there with you, with the fingers crossed as well! Every day i'm checking to see if the FTTF is available for Splendor! :)

Where's the question!? ;):D But, I'm pretty sure you were going to ask if Splendor has those types of showers - yes, it does! ;)

No doors aft, you actually board the ship through the doors forward.

If FTTF is available just take the atrium elevator to 6 and go aft.

so the only way to access the outside deck is by going to mid or fwd?..Seems like a long walk.

Does the splendor have a deck where you can walk around the whole ship?

Yes and no. Scratch that, you can walk all around on decks 9 and 10 (but not outside).
