Aplmac Posted November 30, 2013 #1226 Share Posted November 30, 2013 I feel bad for the Splendor. It is going to take a beating from the NY whining and grumbling crowd. Nothing worse than being on a cruise full of NYers, they trash the ship, get obnoxious and drunk(out of control drunk), and are never happy. The Poor poor Splendor, will need to be drydocked after NY.;) I've been on two GLORY cruises out of Pier 90, on Manhattan's West Sidewith lots of New Yorkers, presumably? and experienced none of what you describe. In fact those were the two most sedate Carnival cruises I've done! .

I just went on the SPLENDOR's Nov. 1st sailing and found nothing that you've described. In fact, I've sailed out of NYC about a dozen times and have NEVER encountered out of control, obnoxious drunks, or NYers trashing a ship. SPLENDOR is in fantastic condition and no one was "whining" or "grumbling" about anything. If you want to point fingers at obnoxious people, look no further than the small group of Asians what was on board. They pushed their way into everything – they cut in line, stormed the elevators, pushed people through the buffet, stood right in front of staircases, etc. Sounds to me that you simply have a problem with NYers. ndeneef Posted November 30, 2013 #1228 Share Posted November 30, 2013 What a stereotypical Ass I'm a NY'er born and raised in upstate and take great offense to your comment. NY'ers are among the best people anywhere. Weather it's NYC or upstate (rochester) where we live. I travel weekly for work and always thankful when my feet land back in NYS. Yes there are bad people everywhere but to dis a whole state is ignorant my friend. First cruise 12/3/2013 can't wait!!!

I agree with Linerguy, I was on the nov 9th cruise and it was the asians that were the rudest people on board, every other group of people were the nicest they could be
YumYumSweetiePie Posted November 30, 2013 #1230 Share Posted November 30, 2013 Can we move on from the categorization of who was the rudest? There's always going to be a family or tour group that is a pain in the behind (if you're looking to find one; honestly most trips I'm just enjoying myself too much to even notice or be bothered by anyone else being rude). Where they're from is a toss up every time, let's not get into stereotypes.
crosscruiser Posted November 30, 2013 #1231 Share Posted November 30, 2013 And now for something completely different.... has anyone used the CHEERS program on the Splendor for an 8 day cruise? My wife and I are wondering if it will be worth it? We have 4-5 sea days and will do the 2 bottles of wine at embark and will have a couple of bottles from the fun shop... will we need CHEERS as well or not? Thanks for anyone who has some info! Great, a palate cleanser! I've never done CHEERS because it seems a bit expensive and I don't really drink that much onboard. However, if someone else bought it for me I'm sure I'd truly enjoy it :D. I guess you should calculate about how many drinks a day you think you would have and see if it's more or less than the price of CHEERS. I'm thinking port days aren't really worth it. Well, hope someone else chimes in on this for you.

We were on a Splendor 8-day with only 3 ports and bought Cheers because hubs is a drinker. It was not worth it for us. Not even for him. By the 5th day he just couldn't drink enough to "break even." We did the math and spent a bit more using Cheers than we would have paying per drink. If you're bringing wine and buying from Bon Voyage, it's probably not worth buying Cheers. AAAAmerican Posted December 1, 2013 #1234 Share Posted December 1, 2013 Hi Youall splendid spending Splendors. We shall, GOD willing be aboard her this month next week. I do wish they had the (ESL) Embarkation Served Lunch aboard as on other of Carnivals Lines too. I saw on this thread about school children. As a Past Explorer, Boy Scout, Cub Scout .. the Motto really suits all. " BE PREPARED". Life, love, investing, cruising is what we make of it... Yes plan , plan , plan again. As in cutting a precious piece of wood..measure three times before cutting. Here in the Greater NJ/NYC area we pay the taxes for the Government ( called free ..eh..) Schools to be open a set amount of days. Normally they close up once the heat comes which is usually Late June. It starts for the children just after Labor Day. ( Hope this knowledge helps youall plan better) The inter -yearly school vacations too we have here also.
moxie99 Posted December 1, 2013 #1235 Share Posted December 1, 2013 Can't wait and am so excited to think that Christmas Day will be an elegant night. We're hoping for Christmas Eve or Christmas so either will be wonderful - have two adjoining cabins as daughter is bringing a friend along - what a wonderful Christmas this will be. omarchs Posted December 2, 2013 #1241 Share Posted December 2, 2013 Thanks everyone for all this great info!! Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on 7356 or any rooms around there. I didn't see any room reviews around this location under the reviews. It is two floors above the disco and just wondering if the music will still be loud at night two floors above? I usually would avoid this room location just in case, but the price is substantially higher to move up 1 floor from where we are so I want to be sure that we really need to move. Thanks! ndeneef Posted December 11, 2013 #1248 Share Posted December 11, 2013 Had a great first cruise on the splendor. Only down fall our balcony cabins 8399-8403 had the smallest connection door ever it was at most 12 inches so if you need connecting balconies these rooms are not the best choice. hockeymom15 Posted February 12, 2014 #1249 Share Posted February 12, 2014 just put my deposit down today for 5/12/14 sailing!! i am not going to read too much into negative reviews at all. i always have a good time and i have been well taken care of the last 3 times with carnival! i mean how can you moan and groan about being on vacation?? AND visiting beautiful locations?? i just dont get it. i was able to book room 6475 which the hubs was excited about. this will be his 3rd cruise.. i am glad i came across this thread cause it seemed that there was not a whole bunch of information on the splendor... until i read jamminmans review... awesome. :) mine and hubby's plan is to get there a couple of days early so we can be tourists...hehehe Hello , I to am booked on the May 12th cruise . I am travelling with my 2 adult children , Boy 23 and girl who will turn 20 May 13th. Birthday cruise!! We were on the Splendor for Xmas . IT was great . First time I ever cruised during xmas . This cruise was a freebee thanks to casino !!The ship is a little colourful but I like colour so its my taste. THe food was great and the staff were all very professional and friendly . We went to New York 2 days before to see the city during xmas and the Rockefellar tree. We are from Ontario, Canada. New York during xmas was spectacular . Best vacation I ever had. Only downfall was cold for 4 days . May will be HOT!!! so looking forward to sitting at pool alot more . Anything you want to know just ask ! Im here to answer questiions if need be. BUT, the thing that is cool, is that this enabled 3 balconies to connect. we had 8399, 8403 and 8407 (mine!) connect. 8403 and 8407 had the normal partitions which opened fully, and then 8399 came along for the ride. 8411 did not connect. but as it was, this was better than just having the middle 2 connect so we were happy! people of 'larger stature' could probably not fit through the resulting opening. :)
