We were on the Splendor in August, and one of the biggest plusses was the performance of the crew in all areas. You can check out my review via the link below.

We sailed with Jeff and totally agree about crew performance. His review is also exceptional

It depends on what service you are asking about???

My Room Stewart was not good at all....

Casino wait staff was horrible :(, hard to get the free drinks if you qualify....

Dining staff was great, ATD, was in and out in 1/2 hour to 45 minutes....

Not doubting you, but in 28 cruises on 3 different lines, we have never had horrible anything. On a couple (read that as 2) we had room stewards we did not see (the wife loves the interaction with the staff). In regards to casino staff and getting free drinks, we had two sons in law that qualified for the first time to get free drinks and the staff was extremely attentive. Just posting our positive experiences.

I'll agree with the "service wasn't as good as past cruises" camp. Everyone was nice. They seemed to try hard. But our MDR wait staff was obviously overworked. The drink staff in the casino seemed unorganized. Wait time after ordering was always 10-15 min. You can lose a lot of money in 15 min.

Steward was borderline bad. Dusty ledges. Hair on bed. YUCK. Loud outside our door.Wet Spa robes not replaced. And slow to get our cabin done every day.

Staff was pleasant but not as efficient as our past cruises.

I really wasn't disagreeing, just wanted to give my 2 cents. I do agree that the room stewards and MDR staff are overworked. Somebody's cabin has to be the last one cleaned. :-)

Hello!

I posted this exact same thing in a new thread, but then thought I would post it in this Splendor Thread to see what people who have cruised on this ship have to say!

I am planning to go on my first ever cruise July 2014 on the Carnival Splendor for my honeymoon. Leaving from NYC going to Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Nassau. :)

What is the air conditioning like on a carnival ship? Or even the Splendor specifically? Is it kept extra cool or would you say it is just normal?

The reason I ask is because I have a medical condition and I have an extreme intolerance to cold. When I'm cold, or even just slightly chilled, I lose blood flow to my hands which has caused me some complications with painful ulcers on my fingers. Its a recent condition and since I was diagnosed I have had to try and stay as warm as possible at all times to prevent this from happening all the time. I don't do very well in air conditioning, I have to be dressed like its winter, lol.

Considering I am going on a cruise in July, and down south, I really would like to be able to pack cute summery shirts, shorts and dresses to wear. That'll be fine at port and when out on the decks, However, I'd like your opinions on the A/C because if it is kept pretty cool, I'm thinking I'll probably have to pack sweaters and pants so I can stay warm when indoors.

Thanks in advance!

Definitely take a sweater or jacket with you for indoors. Some of the public areas can be quite cold especially on sea days.

Also, there is an outside area by the movie theatre that is usually quite good as far as temperatures go. If it is windy/cold, they will put the dome up. Movies at night always have the dome up. Right near the pizza.

The buffet area can be cold. Watch where you sit. In the AM, if it is warm enough go outside all the way to the back and eat there.

In your cabin you can adjust the A/C or just open the outside door to warm it up.

Main show room has some very cold spots. You just have to move around to find out where you feel comfortable.

But do take a jacket or sweater.

Thanks for all the details! This helps! I figured it'd be pretty cool inside.

Another quick question. What is the outdoor temperature like outside during sea days heading from NY down to Grand Turk and the Bahamas? Its July, so I'm assuming its warm. However I figure it must get somewhat windy on sea days? Does the wind and the ocean make it feel somewhat cool?

I agree that it's FREEZING in the buffet dining area. We did the same itinerary on the splendor in July 2013. It was cool in the dining room and other indoor areas but we never sat inside at the buffet because it was just too cold.

Air temps were 78 just about every day from the day we left NYC. We were never sweltering outside, nor were we ever cold (except when we sat close to the doors to the buffet and we'd get a blast of cold air every time the doors opened!). It was 100+ here in NY while we were gone, so it was nice to have been so comfortable on the ship.

I also don't do well in cold weather....not because of a medical condition...but I just don't do well.

I'm always cold on the ship. I always have a jacket.....even in the summer.

"Outdoors" isn't hot, even in July because the ship is moving....but it's comfortable....if you are out of the wind.

Bring what I would call "NYC Spring clothing"...and you'll be fine.

Hi we are leaving on the Splendor 11-25-13 cruise out of NYC and was thinking of doing the FTTF pass, is it worth it? Also we are a family of 4 traveling with 2 rooms one for my kids and one for my husband and I will we need to purchase 2 passes? Also are there any beaches within walking distance in Freeport? Any suggestions on Port Canaveral we did the Kennedy Space Center last time and have been to Disney and Sea World, my concern is it will be Thanksgiving when we are there? Thanks cant wait 34 days !!!

Thanks. I figured it wouldn't be "hot" outdoors on the ship. I just hope with the wind it is still warm enough for me to get some sun in my bikini and use the pools!

I'm sure for most people its perfectly fine, but I'm weird over here :p

Speaking of pools, how is the pool water temperatures?

If they have FTTF available, you would need to purchase one pass for each room. For our August cruise they didn't even offer it. Personally I don't think it's worth the extra $, especially since you would have to buy two.

When we stopped in Port Canaveral we stayed on the ship. It was nice because everything was less crowded with a lot of people off of the ship.

Have a great time on your cruise!

Okay dumb question probably, what is FTTF?

FTTF is the Faster To The Fun. You get on the ship at embarkation after the vips/wedding parties. Also your luggage will arrive to your room faster (make sure you tell porters you have the FTTF) and also your room will be ready as well. You get to use the vip line at guest services, you'll also get priorty tender on the islands you need to tender. And you can choose to have be able to leave early or late like the vips when your cruise is over.

Its a totally personal choice. I've read many ppl really like it. I have purchased it for my cruise coming up. I like the availability if I so choose to use it. $49.95 for the cabin, NOT per person. you go to manage your cruise and purchase like an excursion. they only sell X amount of these so if you want to get it, do not hesitate. they only had 8 left for my cruise and its not till next Oct 2014. Now it will look like you need to purchase for each person, BUT, only click on your name. again, the price is for the cabin, not per person.

If it is too cool outside or too windy the dome will be up over the pool near the pizza area. You will be able to be "outside" and be comfortable. Pool is heated, not sure what the actual temperature is.

The very back pool outside the buffet area does not have a dome over it.

Thanks :)

I'm assuming the blow dryers in the cabin aren't that good?

I have a lot of hair, which is wavy and I always blow dry it straight. I have a pretty good blow dryer, but I'm kind of worried that it may be too powerful to use in the cabin. I can't remember the wattage, I'd have to look at home. I don't want to cause the power to go out or anything.

Do you guys think the cabin can handle a powerful blow dryer?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I read though some pages of this thread but can't go through all 60 pages!

I have very long, thick hair. I bring my own professional blow dryer on cruises now. The blow dryers in the cabin took me about an hour 1+ in drying time. Bring your own!

Wow that's long!

I will bring my own for sure. I take it you have never had any power outage issues while using your professional blow dryer?

Thanks for the reply!
