Princess Secrets they Don't Tell You - 2013 version

Recommended Posts

There was an elderly lady who did live onboard. I wonder if she is still doing so?

I assume you are asking about Lorraine Artz. She was the godmother for the middle Royal Princess and lived on her. 2 or 3 years ago, she unfortunately reached the point where she needed more care than the ship could provide. Her son moved her off the ship to an assisted living facility.

And Beatrice Muller who lived on the QE2

That's too bad, but I guess she had a long run on the ships. I aslo remember reading a long article in the NY Times back a few yrs. ago where they showed how it was actually much cheaper and better facilities to live on a cruise ship instead of places for the elderly (assisted living etc) while still able to care for one self but not wanting to live alone. I guess she stayed as long as she could and enjoyed doing so.

I read about her too. She's an inspiration. Wouldn't take too long to become the "most traveled passenger".

I was on a HAL ship and the winner of the most traveled was a AAA employee who led groups on cruises. It was, I'm sure, legitimate but it seemed somehow cheating since she was working while travelling.

Ha, yes, the most traveled for sure. I hadn't heard she was working but maybe so especially in the earlier yrs.

Lorraine lived on Princess ships and no, she was not working. Kentskie got her facts wrong...

Kentskie did not get HIS facts wrong. It was two different stories. The first story was the woman who lived on board Princess. The other, and the woman to whom I referred, was on HAL (Holland America Line) and she didn't work for them either but she did work for AAA and took groups on board. HAL (Holland America Line) gave her medallions for all of her trips on board their ships but my contention was that since she was working for AAA not Holland America (and certainly not Princess) she was actually working and not just a passenger so she shouldn't have been rewarded for her multiple cruises. But my feelings could have been colored by the fact that she was a raging...in the words of Barbara Bush, "I can't say it but it rhymes with rich". Perhaps I should have done two separate postings to have avoided confusion.

Lorraine Artz was a very pleasant lady, often cruised on the same ship as her.

I also had the "pleasure" of sharing a table for 8 with Bea Muller on QE2. She usually came late to dinner, left early and I wish I could say we enjoyed her company in the time between.

I understand she ended up generally dining alone on a table for 2.

We booked the cabin next to Lorraine's for a long cruise on the Royal 2 years ago in what turned out to be just after she got off the ship. :(

I had really been looking forward to meeting her! :(

Not really an Emerald Princess secret ... yet many don't seem to know or forget about it.

When you enter the mid-ship elevator lobby, the six elevators on one side are controlled by pressing any of the six buttons ....

BUT the two on the other side are not. One of them needs to be pressed as well to control those two.

Also true on other ships and a good tip.

Sounds like there was a reason why she dined alone.

Thank you for getting back with me in regard to "tea time" in the afternoon. That is something we can look forward to on the Golden Princess ship, hopefully.

I still miss the 11am bouillon and the wooden deck chairs with woolen lap robes and stewards who would tuck you in so you could read snugly. It was all very civilized.

Thank you all for the tips. We are booked on our first Princess cruise in October, for 26 nights. So I am enjoying learning these 'secrets' and tips. I have an ever lengthening list.

Does anyone know if all the Carnival stockholder OBC is available to those in the UK? Though I presume so, often things available to those in the US aren't here.

Oh and did I read that it would only be until July 2014 so after then they would not be giving this OBC again?

They renew the stockholder credit every year so that won't be a problem.

as to only giving the OBC to US cruisers - it doesn't make sense. A stockholder is a stockholder.

(Don't call 800 Princess - the people who answer the phone are wrong more often than they're right!)

I just found this in my Princess file:

It refers to British benefits so I think you're good.

(I know it's from 2012 - ignore that)

My husband and I always purchase the photo that has the itinerary on it. A few cruises ago we took an awful picture for that background. We asked about it and were told that you can put any photo with any background as long as the orientation of your photograph was correct for the template they were using. (There was an additional charge if you wanted a formal night picture used.) This was nice to know. We have taken advantage of this a few times.

I also have a Nikon camera and my battery charger burnt out right before we got on board. The photography dept was nice enough to charge my battery for me everyday.

Great tip thanks. Did I read it right can you use one of your own photos or do they have to be ones taken by the ships photogs?

I am searching for anything that shows current status of my account for each cruise. Can't find anything on US site to review for credits and that shows paid status.

Look on the cruise personalizer..see right hand side of the screen and click on Balance and Payment Summary

Nice. Thanks for the reminder that this forum gave me I purchased 100 shares of stock yesterday, faxed notification of the purchase to Princess in the afternoon yesterday, and just spoke with Princess this morning to confirm that hundred dollar credit has already been applied to my cruise that I'm taking next Friday. They were very professional!

Thanks!
