Will be on a Disney Cruise with the family (myself, preg. wife, & our 2 kids) in about 1-month and will be stopping in Nassau. Wife & I visited for a vacation at the BCH earlier this year and also did the AquaAdventure. Lots of other discussion over at disboards.com about Nassau, but many of the folks there seem to be a bit biased against Nassau, (unfairly so IMHO).

Right now I'm thinking the Sheraton will be where we go for the day. Thoughts?

Hey Scubagirl how is the beach at the Marley Resort? We never knew about this resort. Is it relatively new? As quiet and peaceful as the Hilton? Food? Looks nice, just value the comparison to the Hilton which we really liked. We like nice clear water, and go between the pools and the beach usually.Relaxing in the sun, and like the quiet atmosphere. Thanks again. Also how far away from the cruiseport is the Marley property? Cost by taxi or #10 bus? Thanks so much.

Scubagirrl,

Compass Point looks like a great place. Only thing it is a distance from the cruise port.

They said day pass $20.00 ( must bring your own towel), $30.00 if you have no towel.

Joanne

That is the info I got as well Joanne. Looks beautiful, except a good distance away from the cruiseport..our thoughts exactly...we have taken the Jitney bus to the Cable Beach area and back, and honestly that seemed rather long especially on the ride back. Compass Point is even further, so we are thinking to stay closer and go to the Hilton again. We can walk there, and leave at our leisure with plenty of time to do some shopping before we head back to the ship. Great food, nice pool, quiet, and a nice beach. the staff has always been just great, it is a very relaxing atmosphere. So we think we will just go with the Hilton once again.

Thanks for the info! We were married there two years ago and the property is beautiful. I would like to visit there again. It's quite a small place compared to the others but is beutiful and quiet. It's on the water but they don't really have a beach. I believe there is one a short walk next door.

The property and beach are smaller than the Hilton. It's not a large property at all.. and has the feeling of a spa.. very zen.

Marleys is at Cable Beach.. about $20 for 2 ppl for a cab. #10 bus will get you there.

Their website has pictures and menu.

Question about the taxi rates' date=' not sure how it is in the Bahamas. Are these rates per person or for the trip? How many people fit in a cab?[/quote']

Taxi rates are ZONED. The base rate is for 1 or 2 ppl. Additional ppl are $3 per person. Some cabs are cars and fit 3-4 ppl. Some are vans that carry 8-10 ppl.

Taxi to compass point is $32 for 2 ppl.

Taxi to Cable Beach is $20 for 2 ppl

You are expected to tip the driver.

I have seen that if you buy a Sheraton pass you get access to the Wyndham. Is the opposite true? If so, shouldn't I get the Wyndham day pass for cheaper?

Yes, it's true, with the exception of Spring break.

Wyndham day passes are $20. Sheraton is $30.

Scubagirrl,

Isn't the pool at the Wyndham closed? I thought I read somewhere that the hotel or the pool was under construction.

Also, will it be easy to get a cab from the sheraton/wyndham back to the ship? We don't want to do the Jitney. We will be there on a Sunday so I'm not sure if there will be less taxis available.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all! Great and helpful thread! Thank you!

Is the beach at the Hilton man made? I was in Nassau a bunch a years and seem to remember that, as well as that it was rather small and not such great water. Is my memory accurate? Also, is the RUI beach man made? Thanks so much!

Hilton beach is a natural beach, but the area around it is built up.. so it seems that it was man made. It is rather small and intimate, but that's a plus in my book (unless you are looking for that "endless" walk on the beach. It's flanked on both sides by piers and walls, so there are no outsiders and vendors to bother you.

As for the water - I have never had a problem with it. It's always been crystal clear when I go. (which is every time I'm in nassau). I've been at this beach more than 50 times over the years and have never had dirty water except after the hurricane. Hilton is a quiet and relaxing property.. it's NOT a resort atmosphere. No announcements, no bingo, no "game makers" etc.

RIU beach is cabbage beach.. the same one that Atlantis main beach sits on and is public. It can be calm (with a steep drop off) or rough (as it's has been). This is NOT the beach for little ones and is red flagged many times each season.

Scuba's been banned for posting a link.

I'll try and answer.

Wyndham pool gets closed on and off. It's no longer a construction zone, although it will be again once Bahamar opens and Wyndham / Sheraton get a face lift. But that's not til 2014.

Cabs are easy from either Sheraton or wyndham. Just go to the front entrance, the door man will hail one for you. Always available.

On the weekends, there are usually weddings and other celebrations, so you might have a bit of a wait for a cab if you are leaving the same time the function gets out. Give yourself a few extra minutes.

What?? For giving a lot of good advice and useful information many CC members benefited from?

Am I missing something?

According to the rules, locals are not allowed to recommend. Period.

They are afraid they may be recommending themselves or friends.

Funny thing is.. I'm sure there are other locals who know this rule and don't admit it.

Wow. Hopefully she can come back. I can understand locals that own a business shouldn't be able to promote their business, but I would much rather hear from a local about the area's activities than someone who doesn't know jack. Scubagirl was very helpful to many people.
