Who use a lanyard on-board?

Recommended Posts

I don't think you have intently insulted anyone either. However, the language you sometimes use is pretty strong and can come across a little bit demeaning at times. I think its just your personality type and you mean no harm and just expressing your opinion and probably get a little bit frustrated at everyone pulling you up all the time.

We all have opinions,I just think it is the over the top statements that accompany them. As for the pulling up statement,I think people are just saying that you take nice photos Sutho but how about you put your manners back in.

No you dont appear to have insulted anyone. But as a new user to the CC forum, I have quickly discovered that you appear to derive great pleasure from writing posts that have the intention of baiting or annoying other posters.

How about taking it down a level and try being nice to people on the board. Most of us come here to get advice and information from other people who have cruised, or to read about other people's trips or experiences on cruises. I am sure the intention of the board is for enjoyment and positity, not to make people feel uncomfortable.

The lanyard issue is simply childish ...... people will make up their own minds if they want to wear one ...... not be goaded by other people's hang-ups about them.

Let's all get along

Well put, Fozwald, and welcome to Cruise Critic. :) Most of us are easy to get along with, like to be helpful and enjoy a joke! :D

As I said before, I wear a lanyard for convenience as my clothes do not have pockets, and I am 'over' walking the length of the ship only to find my card is in my husband's pocket. And.......it is NOT I who suffers from a sense of insecurity, lol.

I also wear a lanyard on the ship as I also don't have a lot of pockets on my clothing. After 23 years of permanent nightshift my memory is gone so if my cruise card is hanging around my neck at least I know where it is. I do take it off when I am in port.

Regards Elaine.

I have noticed that on Princess ships , the lanyard is sometimes worn to display the colour of your cruise card and thus "boast" your Captains Circle status.

Some people think that with a black card you receive better service than with the blue.

:rolleyes::eek:

On a recent Princess cruise I saw passengers wearing their Platinum and Elite membership cards to show off their status, this was before checkin had opened.

They were also lining up about an hour before checkin opened to be first. They were eventually told to sit down as there was going to about an hour wait as that was when the checkin staff were due to start work and no one could checkin until they arrived!

Sorry, but I am sort of with Sutho here - I do not like them, I do not wear them on a ship and have no intention of ever wearing one on a cruise.

But, I do not care if others choose to wear one - their prerogative.

Same, I don't like them either. I wear one at work so the last place I want to wear a lanyard is on a cruise ship whilst on holiday.

If others want to wear them, then so be it. Unless they are assigned to my dining table, because I draw the line at having to look at the stupid things whilst I'm eating.

Disclaimer: I did wear a lanyard for a couple of days on my P&O cruise. But I soon got over that.

But I've planned my formal dress to match my lanyard. :(

Shame, shame, shame. ;)

I'm sure you will look very sophisticated on QM2 avec lanyard but I will be sans :D

That reminds me - what colour are Cunard lanyards?????

From memory, they have black or red ones.

Its astonishing that I am held with such high regard that people actually bother to care what I think about fashion sense and lanyards. I guess they are the types of people that care what others think of them and worry about how they look in public.

As I said I do not care what other people do with them. If they want to wear them then that their choice.

Its just for a variety of reasons I do not wear them and never will. I consider them:

  • inconvenient
  • daggy
  • irritating feel
  • looks stupid
  • no desire to show off the colour/status
  • less secure (security wise) - better protected in pocket
  • I don't hang my car/house keys around my neck
  • I don't wear my licence around my neck
  • I have never worn a hotel door card around my neck

I guess you do worry about what others think and how you look in public afterall...

Well I have a nice navy blue one which will look stunning with a burgundy ensemble. But sometimes I prefer my nice bright RCL one; you know, mix it up a little. :).

Looks like AussieFlyer is going to disown me. I promise I won't wear it to dinner. :)

To some extent you care about your appearance. But in your mind if the item you are wearing does not look stupid to you then you should feel no shame in what other people think of it.

Its the same as the men's speedo's debate. I don't think they look bad and will wear them when I swim and have the perfect body for them, yet other men think they look stupid and dare not wear them. There would be outrage if men coined a repulsive name for the woman's bikini and shamed them into not wearing them.

I admit to me wearing the lanyard looks stupid. I would not do it. But as said if I wear something that others consider stupid I simply do not care.

I have some black plastic elastic clippies ready for this cruise (from Monte Carlo casino). They stretch, look great and can be clipped on anything. and the card tucked away zipped securely/ I get my sign and sail card punched (onboard at the casino). THAT gives me options. I don't gamble but these are handy.

I also can make custom beaded lanyards, Plus have an array of lanyards and card holders. This includes the clip on on one with the pullout.

Main thing is to make it easy but safe. My concern with a card is holding it..and dropping it while reboarding. I like the safety of a clip.

I have a key clip built into my scottevest. So if it is cold. I may wear that..and keep the card in the special key pocket on the lanyard. That will be coming with me. http://www.scottevest.com/v3_store/Fleece_7.shtml

On the cruise ship at dinner, I keep the card in a tiny "purse" (make up bag, eagle pack kit with my glasses) or in a special secret pouch. On formal nights, I can keep the card in Hunk's tux. In the pocket with the custom white hankie. OH wait it has three buttons and a notch..technically THAT a dinner jacket. So THEY say (he he).

I don't follow one rule. Life is too short.

I am mobile, versatile, and who knows, I may just make a special beaded card holder to go with each of my outfits.

I love Sutho's pictures. I enjoy his expressions. He is a terrific guy.

He has opinions. The thread asked for opinions. He gives them with gusto! No harm no foul.

Americans, especially from Texas, do what they want.

***

Great question.

I agree with this response from Sutho....

It doesn't bother me what others do and like. No one sets rules for me and I do my own thing.

I don't think Speedos are particularly attractive on anyone (unless competing) especially on 30 something men, past the first flush of youth and fast approaching middle age, but admire your confidence;). Board shorts also show off a good physique but aren't quite as confronting as BS's,........unless that's the look you're going for:rolleyes: but as you have said...to each his or her own.

You're joking, right? You would actually say something to people you are seated with or choose not to sit with them and get to know them because they wear a lanyard???? I am sorry, but I think you just reached Sutho level!

I wouldn't need to say anything. They would remove the lanyards voluntarily. :)

You said last week that you had been propositioned by another man at the pool on a ship. Maybe it is because you were wearing Budgie S.......... :)
