mikel24m Posted September 29, 2013 #51 Share Posted September 29, 2013 It is also important to teach children the ills of capitalist giants but I digress. Take cans of coke for your soda carry on and mix with with vodka and Kaluha for a black russian. Coke is not in a black russion ,just vodka and kahlua
mikel24m Posted September 29, 2013 #52 Share Posted September 29, 2013 I know that the secreted Rum-runners are taboo to some and to those people I am sorry you won't like this thread. I am considering Rum-runners this trip. I just don't know what to mix with my my home-made Kuluha other than coffee or milk I know you can get free coffee, juice(in the morning), tea, lemonade, milk and ice cream on the ship. The question is what drinks can be made with the above mixers? We will have rum and vodka between us as well. My best friend has fallen on hard times and I have convinced her to continue on with our trip. No shore excursions, no extra spending's. We are only bringing what we have on hand. So any ideas for a fun drink with any of the above would be greatly appreciated. Oh I know there are drinks you can do with fresh fruit, neither of us care for bananas so we really would forget about those. I would bring a few nice sports bottles and fill those bad boys up with guava juice in the morning,it mixes well with vodka or rum. Vodka and lemonade and ice tea is good too that's called an Arnold Palmer, Or by themselves is also not bad. Make sure to also bring the mixers your allowed onboard , we bring ginger ale usually and it mixes well with rum and vodka(especially dark rum).As far as you homemade Kahlua I would suggest a dirty banana :) but you don't like bananas so I would do Kahlua and ice cream(and maybe a little coffee) and make a nice milkshake or with OJ or ginger ale. Remember also you can order juices from room service as well ,just give a few bucks tip :)
missdebi Posted September 29, 2013 #53 Share Posted September 29, 2013 Of course I will share: Homemade Kahlua Recipe Rich and Tasty Caramel Coffee Flavored Liquor Ingredients 4 cups water 3 cups sugar 1/4 cups instant coffee granules 3 Tablespoons Vanilla Extract 2 1/2 cups Vodka or Dark Rum (I use the rum) Optional: 1 or 2 vanilla beans (Best) To Make Homemade Kahlua Using a large pot, dissolve sugar into water over medium high heat. Add instant coffee granules and bring mixture to boil. Reduce heat to simmer. Stir every 10-15 minutes as needed for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Mixture will be reduced to a liquid syrup. You may need to stir more frequently right at the end. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Stir in vanilla and allow to cool another 15 - 30 minutes. Stir in vodka. Note: No worries if mixture has crystallized a little, the vodka will break it back down as long is it is still partial liquid. If you allow it to cool too long it will harden too much. If this happens, simply reheat the syrup and add vodka when it's somewhat cooled down but not hard. For gift giving, pour your homemade liqueur into pretty bottles and keep out of direct light by using brown or green glass or by wrapping in a cloth. Optional: A vanilla bean in the bottle can add a classy and flavorful touch. For more vanilla flavor, cut vanilla bean in half lengthwise. Tip: This liqueur tastes best when left in a cool dark place for a couple weeks or even better... months. It also gets smoother with age. It can be kept in the fridge but does not have to be. I use it after 1 month for myself but as a gift I like 3 months. Important Step... An important step is to simmer the water/sugar/coffee mixture for at least 1-2 hours. Some recipes skip the simmer but there are two valuable benefits. First, it alters and deepens the flavor of the sugar and coffee as the sugar actually caramelizes. Even so-so instant coffee is altered into a flavor to be appreciated (and I normally try to avoid instant coffee). Second, as the mixture simmers (losing some of the water and caramelizing) you begin to get a thin syrup which is great for the overall consistency of the drink. I am in LOVE!! I had to give up Kahlua because of the caffeine even small amounts gives me the jitters so now I can make it with decaffeinated coffee!! Yea! My DH wants it made with stevia. I may give it a try with decaf! It will help with his sugar and night jitters. :)

thephillykid Posted September 29, 2013 #56 Share Posted September 29, 2013 In Florida, at ABC liquors, they had a 1.75 liter plastic bottle of sky cherry vodka that somehow made it between my underwear in my luggage onto the liberty last year. The diet coke with the unlimited soda card went great with it. Just saying.
elliair Posted September 29, 2013 #57 Share Posted September 29, 2013 The Crystal Light mixers are perfect, small and easy to carry and it being powdered makes u only need water I take a couple boxes of the Crystal Light to mix in just plain ice and water since I don't drink anything with sugar in it. I take them out of the box and place in a baggy to save room. Never had them with alcohol since I'm a wine drinker.

There are lots of different ones out there, and a quick Google search for powdered cocktail mixes should give you plenty to choose from. These pack easily, and there's no fuss about getting them on the ship because they are not the forbidden liquids. Not that I'm revealing any secrets or anything like that........lol. Laurie S. Posted September 30, 2013 #63 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Just curious.... does anyone fly with their rum runners filled or just fill them after you reach destination? We always do. Fill them only to the neck, burp the air out, close the lid tightly, and put it in a ziplock baggie.

tkportersat Posted September 30, 2013 #65 Share Posted September 30, 2013 You are entitled to your opinion. Personally I bring a small amount to enjoy on our balcony. Carnival still gets plenty of money from us as we continue to buy drinks in the Casino, on the lido deck, Bon voyage, at dinner, etc. Why do people think that the rules don't relate to them. Is this what we teach our children now...to cheat and see what we can get buy with?Too bad...so sad.
mikel24m Posted September 30, 2013 #66 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Do you put them in your checked luggage? Husband thinks that they will explode in the cargo area?!?! We only filled it about 3/4 of the way and made sure to get the air out before putting the cap on and it made it through fine a few weeks ago.We just packed it in the middle of the suitcase

KruuzinAgain Posted September 30, 2013 #73 Share Posted September 30, 2013 For those that suggested Crystal Light......how does that work? I'm not too familiar with Crystal Light, but I thought you have to make a whole pitcher of the stuff. We are thinking about using RR's for an upcoming cruise and filling them with vodka. I had planned on carrying on 7-up and cranberry juice, to make vodka & 7's with a splash of cranberry, but I know I'll get tired of those if that's all we have. How would we mix up a single drink in a glass using the Crystal Light? Thanks!!:D
