nyllrap Posted October 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2013 I just got a phone call from someone saying I had won a free 4 or 5 day cruise on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, or Norwegian. They said all I had to pay was taxes today, and asked if I was interested. I said no, that I didn't trust calls like this and hung up. I cannot imagine it was legit. Just wondering if anyone else has gotten a call like this. I didn't catch the name they first gave me.
cb at sea Posted October 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2013 You did the right thing....I've gotten those calls several times. It's always a scam, or a timeshare thing.....at any rate, it's NOT free, and it's probably not legit!
Rare Scrapnana Posted October 23, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 23, 2013 If you didn't enter a contest, you can't "win". A legit contest will send you a registered letter to inform you of your win in most cases. At best it was a timeshare offer, at worst it was someone trying to get your credit card info. You did the right thing!
Keith1010 Posted October 23, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2013 If it is too good to be true it is to be avoided. Keith
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 23, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 23, 2013 You did the right thing. Those "free" cruises are not really free. You have to pay the taxes, flights, hotel rooms (if necessary). All to sit and listen to someone trying to sell you a time share or some other such thing. iheartbda Posted October 23, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2013 Hey, I can go on that free cruise and fly to get there with the voucher I just got for two FREE roundtrip airline tickets to anywhere in the US.:D However, I was warned if I didn't redeem them in the next ten days, they would AWARD them to someone else.:D:D
cruise10000 Posted October 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 23, 2013 If I were to get a call like that, I would pretend to be very interested and get all the information from them I could. I would take that info. report that scam.
kitty9 Posted October 23, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 23, 2013 They're generally scams for time shares and the amount you pay for fees and such can make the cruise more expensive than if you just booked the cruise on your own.
Cruisin' Chick Posted October 24, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2013 Must be from the same company that keeps sending me those post cards that end up in our recycling bin.:D
gerif Posted October 24, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2013 I get that call at least every other week. Free cruise to the Bahamas. Yeah, right. There are several different scams with some differences but all geared toward separating you from you money.
