Absolutely. I'm so sorry for those on NOS. :( Here on Adventure I know things could be worse. The weather is beautiful. The crew has been fantastic. We will continue hoping that the divers are able to fix her up.

 

I'm not up to speed on the Navigator oil spill problem. :( How awful they've canceled sailings.

Long story short...a barge and a smaller ship collided at the entrance to the channel, spilling 160,000 + gallons of bunker oil. Barge is partly submerged ..(none of this was caused by or involved any of the 4 ships in Galveston/Houston..0

 

So....Coast Guard closed ports, let ships in to disembark passengers. Caribbean Princess and Navigator cancelled, Carnival will try and sail tomorrow. One of their ships is at a passenger terminal, the other is docked but not at a terminal. USCG will supervise cleaning of the hulls of the ships if and when they can leave.

 

Now you're sort of caught up. You can go on line and read all about it if you get bored!!

 

Sounds like you're at least trying to have fun...hope everyone has settled into some sort of relaxation mode!

i have sailed with Rccl 16 times now and this whole situation sickens me...Adam Goldstein and his sr. folks should have been in San Juan yesterday and today to nip the bud on this BLACK EYE...The good news is that no one was ever in harms way from safty...the horrible news is that they left and still are leaving a ton of long time customers in the dark...RCCL has comitted a major fumble here...and it will take a alot of public relations to get it back on track...Adam G you need to step up to the microphone and be the voice of the cruise line...to be frank an honest as to what has happened...:eek: i am suprised that nothing has been done from a press release...unless i missed something...

 

While it pretty much sucks that cruisers had a bad experience and the lack of communication was awful, I'm not seeing why you would expect the CEO to show up in San Juan. It's not like the ship caught fire or had to be towed back to port without facilities or both. Procedurally, they screwed-up and hopefully they'll fix it so it doesn't happen again.

I bought a car last week. If it broke down tomorrow, I don't think the garage owner would turn up to see if I was ok.

I think the only thing Rci is guilty of here, is the lack of info passed to cruisers.

Some people on here want to know every detail and they have nothing to do with it.

Well, we all do have something to do with it. Most all of us here sail with RCI. I think how they respond to adversity is a concern to all of us as one day it might happen to the ship that we happen to be sailing on.

I actually don't think that Adam should show up. What I think is that he should be in Miami and that he should have been better at mobilizing the resourses available to him to better communicate with the folks who are affected. They frequently post updates about itinerary changes on the first page of the website. Why nothing this time? It just gives folks the impression that there is no reliable form of communication from this company.

 

You are correct. Procedurally they screwed up. But they have also screwed up in the past. When do they finally learn from the mistakes?

I'm not sure how exactly to attach a picture but the letter in our cabin says towel animals are off-duty this week due to limited access to their onboard bath areas. Royal Caribbean is upgrading their washing machines to become more environmentally friendly. They also left an instruction sheet on how to make your own towel animals.

There are towels for people to make their own animals but no towels for the cabin attndents to make them? I hope the next letter delivered is not the instructions for how to make your own bed.

 

 

Throw the sheets out the window and let them soak. :rolleyes:

Enjoy your Cruise. I have Friends who are on the AOS the Transatlantic coming up so. I am keeping tabs. We were on her last year 3x.

 

She is one of our Favourite ships.

I agree, we're doing a 16 night TA cruise on Serenade next month and would like to know if there was something wrong with the ship that would affect our embarkation or the cruise.:D

I agree. It's not like this is new territory. It's probably the only thing they should have learned from Carnival.

I know I am late to the game due to getting back into Michigan last night as a result of missing my flight on Sunday, and just wanting to be to myself and my family this is the first chance I have had to post here. I was on Adventure for the week of the 16th of March cruise. I did have fun but there were some let downs by the lack of communication and other things. When we were in St. Kitts the oil boom that was up looking down from the aft of the ship was not near the center of the ship it appeared to be to the port of the middle to the port side of the ship. Someone correct me if I am wrong but isn't the fixipod in the middle of the ship and the azipods closer to port and starboard sides?

The boom is designed to collect the oil as it gets to the surface, not where it comes from. Depending on the current, the boom will be deployed where the oil is actually surfacing.

1250EST there are 7 huge bolts on the dock. The flatbed where we are assuming they are putting the blades is still sitting empty as it did all day yesterday. No further updates from Captain and crew regarding our itinerary. Weather is still beautiful and crew still friendly and upbeat.

 

To clarify my post from last night regarding onboard credit for still being in San Juan today, there was a letter this morning. It is another $250 plus $75 each for 3rd and 4th passengers. Suite passengers get $500 and not sure if the 3rd and 4th passengers get more than $75 or not.

The seven bolts are for one blade. Sounds like the divers are having more trouble getting things apart than originally planned. My experience has been that it's about a 2-3 day job underwater. The blade is probably stuck in the hub, and the poor divers are trying to come up with better and better ways to knock it loose.

 

My sympathies for your delayed, and diverted cruise.

Just had an announcement that the chartered flight from Houston with a tool they needed to remove the blades that was supposed to arrive last night, did not arrive until this afternoon at noon. Very soon we should see the first blade on shore supposedly. We are supposed to get another update in a few hours.

So far we get $250 for missing Barbados/being docked in San Juan Monday and another $250 for being docked in San Juan Tuesday.

 

And yes casino and all of shops are closed. Well the Royal merchandise shop actually just opened.
