FreestyleNovice Posted May 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2014 ..by bringing your old bingo cards? I think I saw someone with a whole stack, must have been 25+ already once opened cards, when we walked in on a bingo game. Also heard a couple later on discussing the same fact; can you cheat by bring your old bingo cards. The crew didn't check any thing besided the called numbers. So, can one cheat? Sorry for all you bingo players, "this has to be brought to NCL's attention." "I hope the reps read this" "Won't cruise NCL again." LOL. ;)

LrgPizza Posted May 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2014 I don't know how they would have time to dig through all their old cards to try to find one that had the exact same numbers called as those that had been called in the current game. It doesn't seem possible.
pieshops Posted May 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2014 All cards are numbered they know the range they are selling before the game. That is why the winners have to verify the number and then then computer validates it.

It doesn't seem possible. Thought that too.. but this elderly man (which was later joined by his wife) had it all set up, two tables together a bit in the rear and to the side in Headliners and continously opening the cards together. Professionally quick fingers. Very seasoned. And shuffled away the majority of cards when calling bingo. It was fascinating to see.. if you read this; I KNOW WHAT YOU DID! :D

But here they just checked if you had a valid bingo, a staff member would take the card and recall the bingo numbers to the other staff at the stage. And a prize was won. FreestyleNovice Posted May 25, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted May 25, 2014 By the way; who knew that those numbered dice in the casino coin dozers are worthless souvenirs? I got three of them, two bubbly chips and the $20+3 roll and $5+2 roll, basicly emptied the machine, but those dice keychains set me back so next time I'm going in prepared for bingo. ;)
rbrugler Posted May 26, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 26, 2014 For what they charge, people can cheat all they want. I do not play, so it does not bother me.
mugtech Posted May 26, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 26, 2014 It is like the total nuclear war game, the only way to win is to not play.
lhugheshome Posted May 26, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 26, 2014 While I. Do not condone cheating.....the prices to play Bingo and Deal or No Deal are outrageously expensive. I cannot see how supposed cheaters could actually cheat by choosing winning cards. however, I could see playing with previously paid for cards. Still cheating as they are playing for a pot of money they made no contribution to. I do not play bingo on land or sea. I used to play the odd time on a cruise but no more. The price point is such that I no longer see any value in it.
CasinoCruzGirl Posted May 26, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Years ago I loved playing bingo i haven't played in years just faded out. I was on a cruise a few months ago and was excited to play but I hated it. First those crappy cards they give you it's so hard to punch and hold down the flaps and I just never got close at all so needless to say that was my first and last time playing bingo on a cruise ship. johnsak123 Posted May 26, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 26, 2014 No you can not they know the number of the cards that win Or at least i think they do
cruzsnooze Posted May 26, 2014 #13 Share Posted May 26, 2014 The cards have a scan code which is checked so you can't use old cards. maybe the couple you saw just bought several packets of cards. Bingo prizes are not proportionate to the money collected so i stopped playing years ago.

Medtech2 Posted May 26, 2014 #15 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Wouldn't the fact that the card also had other punched numbers be suspicious?
FreestyleNovice Posted May 26, 2014 Author #16 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Wouldn't the fact that the card also had other punched numbers be suspicious? It probably did not draw their attention, they were pushed back a bit versus completely folded open ones which were called. Also no check between the bingo software (if it tracks) and the winning card. And agreed on the low value prizes, was amazed by it. That's probably why they went cheating after a few cruises LOL. DrNora Posted May 26, 2014 #17 Share Posted May 26, 2014 On the other cruise lines not only do they check the numbers but the check the serial # of the winning card. Can't imagine that NCL would not do this. Any chance that they would lose revenue seems implausible. As I recall, the winning card or packet is scanned, just as when they are purchased. Would be good practice, saw it on Deal or No Deal but not on the bingo. Perhaps it went that way with the bigger prizes. We walked in on the first round (ship model, free photo, bubbly etc), since there was no check besided just calling the numbers between a staffer in the audience and the stage and handing out a price.. Perhaps they tried to cheat but got a bingo on a fresh card haha.. You would think it should be a closed system, it seemed high tech.. :)

FreestyleNovice Posted May 26, 2014 Author #20 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Did he win? Yup, one prize the round when we watched, we sat a few open seats behind them. Nothing big, bottle of wine or something. He knew what he was doing, took the most right corner of Headliners, away from the majority of other players. All the cards in a linen bag, surely it was an inch thick stack at least.. Not really sure of what was going on we joked to ourselves that he invested his whole retirement funds in NCL bingo cards.. :D

kollegekreed Posted May 28, 2014 #23 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Number one, as others have said, no, it is not possible. They put cards with certain serial numbers and change the "set" they put out. They scan every card out and the computer verifies that the card was sold for that game. Number two, Bingo is by far the worst bet on an NCL cruise ship. Sit down and try to figure out the math at some point. I have - they award about 20% of the money they collect back out in prizes. At one game they gave out $300-$400 and I watched the people buy the cards up and they easily brought in $2000-$2500. Bingo "on land" would pay out multiple games at much more money for a smaller individual investment. Youre better off spending $50-$100 on blackjack than on Bingo. PDIDDYwife Posted May 28, 2014 #24 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Does NCL "sell" the automatic hand-held bingo machines? THey are the ones that do everything for you and are loaded with a whole bunch of electronic cards. Our last few RCL cruises I was amazed at families buying 6 or 9 of them at once....yeesh! We have not been on NCL for a few years, but we had one of those on Pearl and my kids won 64 bucks- we hit on a $300 "jackpot " and had to split it many, many ways. Probably with that old cheater geezer!!
