Any other cruise line with smoking restriction similar to X?

I like the RCCL TA next year (fall) that visits Iceland and the Norwegian fjords , but don't want to deal with the smoke.

Are there other cruise lines that have a smoking policy as restrictive as X?

Now, if X would take a hint from RCCL and provide a similar cruise my problem would be solved.

Celebrity spoils the non smokers with their policy. An awesome marketing strategy.

Great question. But I think X has the most restrictive smoking policy around.

The information posted there is out of date. It says that smoking is permitted on Celebrity ships in "designated indoor and outdoor areas". That is incorrect. There are NO indoor areas where smoking is permitted. Plus, the article mentions the smoking areas on Celebrity Galaxy and Celebrity Mercury. Galaxy left Celebrity in 2009 and Mercury in 2011.

Plus, some of the replies to the article were posted in January 2012.

I thought RCCL and X basically had the same smoking policies? No smoking on balconies and only a few designated areas?

No, close, but RCI allows smoking in the casino. No smoking indoors on Celebrtiy.

Lists of smoking polices are not much good, unless published very recently. The dominos are falling. Celebrity's policy will likely be the norm for the industry in a few years. :)

We were on the Oasis in February. No smoking on balconies, but there were smoking sections on the pool deck and the casino. The smoke odor in the casino was everywhere. Celebrity is now my cruise line of choice.

Agree, the sooner the better for us.

Their smoking policy is important to us, but if it were not so restrictive X would still be our favorite cruise line.

I've seen references to a new smoking policy coming for Holland America, a line I am very fond of and would return to in a heartbeat. Does anyone know more about that? Guess I need to search the HAL threads.

On our last HAL cruise in 2011, DH said "never again" because of the stale smoke coming into our favorite explorations (wonderful Internet, coffee bar plus library with sea views) from the casino.

So since then we've been on Celebrity. Sure do miss HAL's library and beautiful full promenade decks.

Royal no longer allows smoking on balconies but enforcement is lacking. Had smokers on a balcony down the hall from us & above us- smell and ashes on our balcony. Royal "couldn't find any evidence of smoking" and people in the cabins denied they were smoking on the balcony.

Hi, if you are interested in a TA via Iceland and Norway, check:

-Caribbean Princess (Princess Cruises), starting 29th of Aug, 2015, from Southampton to NYC! Great itinerary, and we did not recognize any smoking problems on our trips with Princess.

-Eurodam (Holland America), similar, slightly longer cruise (7th of Sep, 2015, Copenhagen - NYC). But since I do not have any experience with HAL ( :( ), I do not know anything about their smoking policy.

Is smoking a problem on RCI ships???

Cool. Now I can actually go to the casino! I've only been on celebrity once (solstice Alaska last year) and I generally avoid the casinos for that reason so I guess I didn't even notice.

Going On the summit in 2 weeks though.

Thanks for the info.

How can any ship think it's acceptable to have smoking in public areas like the casino? It's gross!!!! I don't wish to breath in putrid air thank you.

I love how anti smoking the world is becoming. One of the best bravest decisions taken by a British government was to ban smoking in all public areas. It's lovely to be able to go to a pub and not leave smelling like an ashtray.

Celebrity have a similar view :D

Last time I was on Princess people were hanging out in the casino just smoking and not gambling. Anytime we had to walk through the casino it was really thick, AND most of the Princess boats the casino is just outside the main theater. I hope Princess and RCCL bans and soon all indoor smoking like Celebrity.

We did the RCCL Allure last year and while we generally liked most of what the ship had to offer the smoking was a big distraction.

They allow smoking in one of the lounges which was out of the way but they also allowed it in the bar on the main promenade. It would easily waft out and around and you could not easily walk across the promenade and skip it.

This became annoying because they don't have late night snacks except in the promenade.

Princess keeps the buffet area open for snack for later at night and you have an alternative.

For the largest ship afloat I considered that a big fail.

You suggesting that an addictive personality is what hooks both smokers and gamblers?

Sorry, mean to say that some people are prone to addictions. I believe smoking is a physical addiction. Gambling in the mind.

My father was raised on a farm in VA where they grew tobacco. He once told me that he could not remember a time in in life when he did not smoke.

He also enjoyed gambling, but found it more profitable to be a bookie.

Sorry to get OT. A related but different topic.

That's incorrect. Smokers actually have Less Wealth compared to non-smokers.

In the day the same argument was used if smoking was to be ever banned in liquor establishments. Now that smoking is banned in bars, they are just as busy, if not more than ever.

Sorry but this has nothing to do with people who have less wealth, it has to do with people who have money. About 20 years ago in ATlantic City the city council set up a percentage of the casinos which could be smoking, something like 25% or so. Every one of the casinos without exception first set up their high roller areas as smoking. I also base this on conversations that I have had with casino execs, it's not even a question in the industry. Also has nothing to do with smoking in bars, that's like comparing apples and oranges.

No difference between Wealth and Money it's the same definition. Demographics shows Smokers have less money/wealth than Non-Smokers, whether you like it or not, it's a hard fact. And when they do ban smoking in casino's, and it will happen, revenue's will actually increase just like it did in Bars/Restaurants when smoking was banned.

Never denied that smokers have less money, wealth, you are missing the point totally, not all smokers have less wealth. Those who are heavy rollers also tend to be heavy smokers and drinkers. I believe that as the numbers of smokers in our society continues to decrease, the high rollers who smoke will decrease also. At that point perhaps the casinos will make changes but it will be when it is advantageous to them in terms of how much money they can make.
