Sorry to see that Jimmy Maddox will not be in the Piano Bar for our Nov. 30th Nieuw Amsterdam cruise. It looks like Debbie Bacon will be the one. We never heard of her so hope we will enjoy her music.

Debbie is on Amsterdam not NIEUW Amsterdam. She only does Amsterdam Grand Voyages and is very good.

According to the schedule posted upthread, he's currently on the Noordam and will continue to be there until right before Thanksgiving. No news yet as to his whereabouts after that.

(Does he have a website? I tried searching for one, but came up empty.)

The list was created according to information provided by the various performers via websites, mailing lists, etc., so there wouldn't be anything posted about the Rotterdam if none of them are scheduled to be on that ship.

And let me add my thanks to mhurdle127 for starting this list!

Spreadsheet idea is good - and hopefully will be expanded as others contact you with more info

Would this be eligible for a topic on "halfacts"? might be of general interest to some

We enjoy the piano bar and have had only one performer we couldn't stand, but cannot remember his name for anything. Hopefully, he won't be on our next cruise. He played from a set list and didn't encourage requests or sing-alongs and had none of those fun contests. We were looking for other things to do in the evenings and spent way too much time in the casino!

Was your person a Hawaiian guy? That kind of sounds like Michael Sara when I saw him on the Eurodam back in 2011. I don't know if he's still like that or not.

Is there a piano bar on the Prinsendam? We love the piano bars!

There is not a piano bar on the Prinsendam, but there is a pianist nightly in the Crow's Nest. I never quite understood the difference between that and what RuthC calls "a proper piano bar", perhaps she will weigh in. I definitely preferred Debby Bacon (who only does grand voyages) to Derek Floyd, but beyond that I saw little difference.

mhurdle127 thank you for taking this on. While I would prefer having the list organized by ship you're doing the heavy lifting on this and if you do what works for you I'll be happy to have it. I like your clean reporting style; if I know who is on which ship on which date the itinerary is easy enough to get.

Thank you.

Roy

Let me echo the thanks for taking this on.

As to the question of the piano bar on the Prinsendam - there is a piano in the Crow's Nest and there was a player and there were a pile of roll call members on the very comfy sofas and chairs 'naming that tune'.

it might not be a proper piano bar but there are rumours that the spirits of that Witches and Wizard Roll Call still float in the Crow's Nest :p:)

We had a great time there - and will happily return. it might not be 'proper' but since it is the only entertainment there then I consider it a piano bar in my mind;)

As one of the members of halfacts, and I hope I am not speaking out of turn, we'd be happy to put this up if we could find some way to keep it current without it being really time consuming. It's not that we're lazy, honest - it's just inaccurate information is worse than no information at all.

And some of us do take some time off to cruise;)

A few years ago, we had at least two or three sailings on different HAL ships where the piano bar person was "Fritzie". Has anyone seen her in the past five years? I wonder where she is playing/how she is doing, etc? Thanks for reminiscing on this one.

No, he said he was British but lived in Paris. Was very full of himself and trying very hard to be a "sophisticated European". Was on Rotterdam Baltic cruise 2012. Mostly Dutch on board and they spent their nights in the Ocean Bar dancing to a great combo band, so he had no audience most of the time.

Other cruises we have had trouble finding seats, so he was really a downer. Hope he has retired.

Same for our TA on Prinsendam fall 2012. We had a core group who showed up every night and formed teams. There was a different theme each night for "name that tune" and he announced the theme the night before, so all day we would think of titles to prepare. Great fun and made new friends. Wonderful to be up there the night we passed Gibraltar about 11pm, as we could see it all lit up and no one else came to see that awesome view. Ships all lined up to pass through, etc. Wonderful memory. Also had 2 very talented ladies who would sing along with him some nights - just like being in a club.

On our Zuiderdam cruise last week our daily programme noted that "entertainment" in the piano bar was with Jeremy.

We visited a couple of times and found him fairly boring (sorry!) and with quite a knack to hit bum notes on occasion.

We thought the piano bar on Zuiderdam was quite small - normally we like to spend the evening in the piano bar on ships but didn't spend much time in that one.

Well, I was going to offer to report on the Statendam, but I guess I won't now. Would you consider posting to just one thread for an extended time, rather than starting a new thread with each update. Reduces the need for Host Walt to keep locking threads, and also makes it easy to bookmark the thread.
