Does anyone know or have anything good or bad to say about this ship. My DH and I received a free cruise and are also booking a back to back cruise on this ship. Need to hear anything good or bad. Please respond... Leaving Jan-Feb.

Thanks everyone!

DH and I have been on the Sky 4 times. It's an older ship, the crew has been exceptional. We enjoyed our cruises on her every time. Just don't go during spring break (but I can see you are not). Food was good, entertainment ok. Cabins are small, but most cruise ship cabins are. She has always been very clean. Casino is small but fun.

They have a lounge up by the steak house that has early evening BOGO martini's and we tried to get up there before dinner; sometimes there would be a piano player or a guitarist, we found this a nice relaxing prelude to dinner.

As with anything, experience is different from person to person. Just giving my view on the Sky.

Love the Sky! So much so that I'm trying to convince my husband we should cruise the Sky once before our Epic sailing next January. :)

It's a small ship, but easy to navigate. Crew were friendly, the food was good and we loved the small pool area in the front of the ship (that may have been the kids' pool; I can't remember). As the previous poster said, rooms are small, but they are well kept and comfortable. And we loved GSC!

Was just on her a few months ago. Tried the suite life for a quick 3 day cruise.

Food was good. Service was good. Nice and clean ship. Not crowded at elevators. Nice and courteous guests on my cruise. Easy to get around (look down at the carpet in the passageways. The fish in the design face forward as a good guide). :)

I would book her again if I did not have to drive all the way down to Miami again.

Pretty close to my third time sailing in her! The Sky is my all-time favorite ship! I just wish they would change the itinerary to a 7-day somewhere else! I'm really getting tired of the Bahamas!!

Subscribing to this thread. I'm thinking of booking the Sky at the tail end of our Sun cruise in November with the KSF promo they are running right now.

Can anyone tell me if the Sky is basically like the Sun? It looks like it may be a sister ship?

In Feb we sailed the Sun (11 day) got off and got on the Sky (4 day) similiar in size, Sky a little smaller I think- layout different- IMO- Thought the Sky Interior was nicer than the Sun- we were in Suites on both Cruises, our balcony on the Sky did have a soot issue. Staff great on both Ships.

We really enjoyed the Sky back in 2003, before she became the Pride of Aloha and then was remade into the Sky.

I love the outdoor deck forward of the Observation Lounge (or whatever it is called now.) On deck 12, I believe.

I did a little more research and it looks like the Sky and the Sun are sister ships. According to the website I found, it says they are the exact same size and same passenger ship.

I did read that it was first built (well, obtained after a bankruptcy and not finished yet) as a Hawaii ship and that it had a Hawaiian flare to it. Does this still hold true? I was on the Spirit back in 20111 and absolutely LOVED that ship with the Asian flare. It is so different from the rest of the fleet. I think a Hawaiian flare would be nice if it's still like that.

I believe the Hawaiian theme is still present but it's been 4 years since we've sailed.

From what I have read on other threads, a lot of the Hawaiian themes were changed when the ship was moved, but some still remain.

We will find out; on Sky for the first time in November. :)

When in November are you going? That's when I'm thinking of booking. :)

Kim- it still has the Hawaiian theme! And if you can afford it, grab one of the forward suites on deck 8 as they have HUGE balconies! (deck 9 balconies are smaller). And...if you can pop for an OS, they all sleep 5 and have private "hot" tubs on the balcony! Deck 8 can fit at least 3-4 adults whereas deck 9 maybe 2. Sakari would love it!!! ;)

The Sky still remains my favorite ship! I can't even tell you why! I can say that it's not for the itinerary!!!! This upcoming cruise will be my third time on her....and I'll be booking again for next summer!

We are just thinking about adding this on to the end of our Sun cruise. So, we are doing cheap this time around...very cheap, not even a balcony, not even an ocean view. :( Just the cheapest interior. The other rooms sound like heaven, but not this time around for us.

Aww, well I guess we won't be joining you. I am looking at the week after our Sun cruise (I think it's the 17th for the 4 day cruise). :)

Sorry we won't be on the same cruise dates. But we also will be "suffering" in an inside cabin. :)

I really like the Sky... I've cruised on the Sky 4 or 5 times over the years... I took a group on the Sky in Jan 2014 (almost 300 people) and taking the same group on Sky in Jan 2015... I also got a free cruise on the Sky for booking on the Getaway for this September... I'm really looking forward to it... I would never hesitate to go on the Sky...

We're also sailing in November and I called the other day to ask a few questions and just happened to also ask if there were any upgrades and for $60 for the 4 days we got an upgrade from the inside cabin to a family oceanview w/ a porthole-$15.00 per day for both of us. I took it. DH is thrilled :) I guess he was more concerned about an inside than I thought.

This is our first cruise and we also wanted to go the cheapest route but for this small amount of money having the porthole could possibly make or break the decision of ever cruising again. :D

LegalCat,

You seem very experienced! Any tips that you have would be greatly appreciated. We have 6 adults and 1 teen in a Balcony suite and the next balcony room on the 9th deck on the Sky.

It has been over 20 years since my DH and I cruised. Older kids...a couple of years and the teen is going for the first time.

Thanks!

I liked the casual atmosphere with freestyle. I enjoy the sail away party. Breakfast was consistently good (lots of variety throughout for all meals) especially near the back area where you could eat alfresco. We did that every morning. Food in main dining was delicious. My party and I really had fun at their private island bbq/beach day. I loved the view from my Aft balcony as well as the view on the observation deck that seemed to never have anyone out there. Beautiful sunsets. We went in the middle of the week so it never seemed crowded. We didn't have to wait for anything. I love the memories I have with my family most of all, we had such a great time together on the Sky. It was our first cruise so we had nothing to compare it to so we just soaked it all in. We thought it was great. We slept with our balcony door open so we could hear the ocean waves. My sister would get up early and watch the sunrise on the balcony.
