How do you know this for sure? For NCL UK cant come up with a definitive answer?

The interpretation of the wording is somewhat grey?

There is nowhere that says "commence on or after November 1"

I am not in the uk. And it has been verified that Ncl cruises commencing on or after November 1

Just what has been posted and uploaded here on cc but as I do not know anything about Ncl uk except that they operate somewhat differently than Ncl USA well then I don't know what your answer would be

You should keep looking into it if it matters to you

It is per offense and people can be removed form the ship as well. I'm going to play by the rules so I don't have to deal with the consequences.

I didn't see that in the policy it's per offense. Customer Service said its a one time "cleaning charge" and so does the written policy. You're saying its a fine but it's a cleaning charge according to NCL.

I called NCL yesterday asking for an email address for Kevin Sheehan- and was told they don't have one- I had to mail a letter of complaint to him- which I did!!

Interesting. I wonder how this also applies to the DOS's on 15 or the Haven sun deck on 15. I would think no smoking, but who knows!

So Mr Sheehan is saying- if you spend lots of money-ie. the Garden Villa- then its ok to smoke there- nice Mr Sheehan- nice to see the priority is health and well being and not the bottom line-cash!!

The written policy does not in fact say "one time" but I assume they only do one cleaning, after the offending passengers disembark, so they should only apply one charge. I wonder if they actually bother doing the cleaning when someone is caught using an unflavored e-cigarette. In that case the $250 could be seen as more of a fine.

I don't think Kevin is saying that at all. GVs have large sundecks -- maybe about 4000 sqft of private space at the top of the ship.

Not sure how smoking would bother anyone on the star or dawn since they're not balconies.

I know GVs on other ships have balconies off the rooms so they will probably say pax can't smoke there but on the sundecks and outdoor villa area they will be allowed.

Exacty. I can't conceive how other passengers would know if anyone was smoking on the private deck or private sitting area (and be bothered by it)...they can't even see those spaces.

I agree that on the Jewel class ships the balconies off of the GV bedrooms would be off limits for smoking just like all other balconies.

Really? I just did a search on CC this morning and someone posted his email address. I sent him an email and he responded in 5 mins from his Blackberry.

Usually corporate doesn't want to announce the CEOs email address so you won't get it from customer service.

I was shocked to even hear from him within 5 mins of emailing. I thought I might hear from his assistant 6 weeks from now.

If they don't want the job then they don't take the job

Maybe they don't get a job at all but that is their choice

Last I knew they don't chain the dealers to the tables

And I can choose to gamble or not

I am not paying a premium for the casino use but am paying it for balcony use

Fwiw. None if this is about health anyway it is about not having to spend the money to retrofit the ship with advanced smoke detectors

I have to question your sanity. That type of attitude will hold no water whatsoever when someone who has worked in the casino for 4 or 5 years decides to sue a cruise line because they have lung cancer and that day will come. That would be akin to a car company knowingly making defective cars then saying, "well, you didn't have to buy it. Nobody forced you".

This is why I laugh out loud at this new policy. It has absolutely nothing to do with safety and well being of anyone or anything other than the bottom line which is why they didn't ban it in the casino. Smokers gamble, the cruise lines know this. Ever been on a ship that has done a smoke free night? I was on a couple of Carnival ships that did that. You could fire a canon off in the place and not hit anyone. I guess all the high class non-smokers were too busy polishing their halos.

I don't go to the casino on smoke-free nights because I tried it...and the place still reeks. And my clothes reeked when I left.

He responded to my inquiry is less then 10 minutes and when I had a follow up question he said someone else will reach out to me and he cc'd them on the thread.

Thats awesome that he did that

Me neither. You should ask them to send you that in writing. Otherwise the only way to be 100% sure you won't be kicked off for smoking is to ask the captain of your ship. Who knows, he could be a sympathetic fellow smoker :) (and I wonder where he and the other officers and the ship's crew are allowed to smoke).

ETA: Looks like you got it in writing all right! :D

I got mine in writing also

We didn't ask to "have the right to smoke" I was just saying that was one of the things some in our group wanted to do! Oh My God! I'm sorry I posted anything!

Being in the GV doesn't come with privileges...it comes with a very steep price tag, you pay for what you get!

Don't be sorry Sheila, I am glad you brought it up because I emailed Kevin also so I guess it's the Gem garden villas only in my future. That is certainly not a bad thing. And to all the haters, yes money does buy perks, it's a fact of life and you should just get used to it.

That's great that he's so open to emails. I was just sick of CS not knowing an answer, so who better then the person who most likely approved the policy.

My sanity? Now that's funny and I should report your insult but I won't because you don't bother me

However, I for one never said it was a health reason anyway and it was all about regs that would force the cruiseline to put in expensive upgrades

Personally I don't care who smokes and if crew want to work in a smoke filled environment so be it

Unless he personally called and spoke to you it could have been any one if his assistants that responded

Could have been him of course or maybe not

There is a basketball court directly behind the garden villa on the star- I've been in the garden villa- and staff and passengers use this area.

Good job! An answer directly from the source is always best.
