I think the six year olds that come here after school realize the poll is not representative of the general public .. But it does indicate more cruisers smoke than you thought.. Come on , be honest ..

You are looking at a poll from February 2007....The trend has been for people to quit smoking and/or not even start due to the rising price of cigarettes, more awareness to the dangers to their health, the laws limiting their use in both indoor and outdoor public places, and workplaces banning them over the last 7 years. Not only are you trying to use data from a self-selecting and small population it is extremely outdated and no longer relavent due to the changes in our laws and society in the last 7 years. I can't see any statement that comes from it that is reflective of today's society or current cruisers....that's me being honest:D.

I spoke to corporate the other day and there is no throwing off the ship, just the $250.00 fine, which is fine with me.

Being in the GV doesn't come with privileges...it comes with a very steep price tag, you pay for what you get!

 

I just sent Kevin Sheehan (the CEO of NCL) an email asking if smoking was permitted on the outdoor decks of the Garden Villas because it was unclear with the smoking policy. Here's his response:

 

"It is allowed and I have just asked the team to make sure our team is aware. Thanks and sorry you had to ask me. Kevin"

No one at NCL can answer if our friends that smoke can do so out in the private outside area of the GV. They say just pay the $250 "cleaning fee".

 

My concern is all of us getting kicked off the ship, they assured us that wouldn't happen in the GV -- BUT I'm not 100% convinced.

Me neither. You should ask them to send you that in writing. Otherwise the only way to be 100% sure you won't be kicked off for smoking is to ask the captain of your ship. Who knows, he could be a sympathetic fellow smoker :) (and I wonder where he and the other officers and the ship's crew are allowed to smoke).

Rest assured that if smokers smoke on their balconies/in their cabins despite the ban...even if they pay the $250, if the smoke prohibits non-smokers from breathing fresh air on their balconies, there will be complaints and security knocking at doors.

 

I am to assume I will be able to enjoy my balcony from now on without my air being polluted.

Finally SOMEONE said it! We are all thinking it though... and truely if I paid for a 3 bedroom / private outdoor space - emphasis on private - I would not expect to be chastised about smoking - goes w/ the territory - just like celebrities with taking their dogs everywhere - 'accomodations' are made at that price point. And before I get bashed - I'm NOT saying normal suites and balconies - but the GV is the GV just wished I could afford it for a 14 day cruise.

 

For those really looking for alternatives - look at HAL's Pinnacle suites - with outdoor dining for 4-6, outdoor hot tub and incredible balcony space - it's certainly not the GV but it was pretty darn good (our last cruise). Every bit 5 star. Since we were traveling w/ relatives - we hosted happy hour on the balcony every day - best cruise we've ever had. Took 7 days just to figure out the darn lighting.

The vaping of E-cigs is therefore not punishable by any charge which should allow anybody vaping on the balcony no problem, providing that they are not seen by nosey neighbours.

"Vaping" IS smoking. Go for it if you want, it is your $250 and your being put off of the cruise that you are risking. Your presumption is incorrect. Read the policy.

I don't think any of us that booked a GV have a "sense of self importance" -- at least I don't.

 

I, for one, just wanted something clarified that no one in NCL's customer service dept. could not answer about the sundecks -- which aren't balconies.

Interesting. I wonder how this also applies to the DOS's on 15 or the Haven sun deck on 15. I would think no smoking, but who knows!

Then you did not read the written policy. Be careful, a written policy supercedes anything verbal. I am going to be careful since I do not want to risk any of the consequences in the policy.

It is per offense and people can be removed form the ship as well. I'm going to play by the rules so I don't have to deal with the consequences.

While it is VERY unlikely that this will happen, technically the residue from the vapor will hit the floor or the counters or the windows or the railing. If they chose to, they could swab for traces of the residue and actually make it part of the daily cleaning.

 

I HIGHLY doubt this will be done but dont think there isnt technology to find out if people are using ecigs where they shouldnt.

NCL says its smoking policy is for the health and safety of passengers and crew.How about the passengers and crew in the casino? If I put a slot machine on my balcony, can I smoke there? What hypocrites.

 

If they don't want the job then they don't take the job

 

Maybe they don't get a job at all but that is their choice

 

Last I knew they don't chain the dealers to the tables

 

And I can choose to gamble or not

 

I am not paying a premium for the casino use but am paying it for balcony use

 

Fwiw. None if this is about health anyway it is about not having to spend the money to retrofit the ship with advanced smoke detectors
