Unless he personally called and spoke to you it could have been any one if his assistants that responded

Could have been him of course or maybe not

I doubt someone else carries around his blackberry but in either case he cc'd someone else on his follow up response so I should hear from her soon regarding my other questions, and as an FYI, I sent my email at 3:06 and he responded at 3:08. I was impressed at his prompt reply.

Wow, some people's sense of self importance is unbelievable. It makes me happy I can't afford the most expensive cabins where I would have to be near people like this.

It's not about self importance it's about the fact that if want something bad enough you pay for it, how different is it then leasing a car you can't afford to buy outright? To me it's the same. So if I have to take less cruises per year to do a GV then ill do it, I would rather pay more $ then be miserable in a cheaper room I cannot fully enjoy, & yes I do enjoy smoking so it is a major factor for me. I am just thankful for CAS for making it possible.

Hi All,

We would just like to respond that smoking will be permitted in the private outdoor decks of the Garden Villas primarily because these are very private outdoor spaces and not balconies. Garden Villas are only available on select ships and do have large very private outdoor spaces.

This does not apply to any other Haven suites or the Haven courtyard area.

As with the overall changes to the smoking policy, we thank you for your understanding.

Thank you. Obviously this is not allowing smoking on a balcony, no matter how much some may wish to twist it.

This is wonderful for those can afford it, but not so tasty for those who cannot.

Just sayin

Do you think it may have been a " form" auto response?

Wow 2 minutes and he got right back to you

The boss himself?

Hmmm.

Auto response....sometimes they appear to be personalized you know

But good for you that he got right back to you, maybe he is following your cc posts? Lol

I need to clarify some facts... He didn't respond to my email in 5 mins. I emailed him and I went to a meeting then checked my email. It was 31 mins actually.

I sent Mr Sheehan a reply thanking him for his clarification... And this was his response:

"Tim, thanks for pointing out and thanks for you business. Its Kevin, by the way.

--------------------------

Sent from K.Sheehan's BlackBerry Wireless Device"

All I wanted was clarification about the smoking policy on the sundecks on the GV -- I honestly wasn't expecting him to respond.

I haven't been on a vacation in 5 years. This is only my 3rd cruise in my life. My DWs 2nd and the other people were cruising with have never cruised before. So I don't want to have to worry about these things. I want to relax in my own space and do as little or as much as I want and not have our others guests complaining about how they have to go to the casino to smoke. So that's why I needed clarification before our final payment comes up in a few weeks.

There is a basketball court directly behind the garden villa on the star- I've been in the garden villa- and staff and passengers use this area.

And your point is what? Staff and passengers aren't in the casino or walk by the casino?

I really don't understand why non-smokers have a problem with this? For non-smokers, we have 99% of the ship that's smoke-free now!

Rejoice!

For people that want to smoke, go to the casino or book a GV! Simple as that.

Some people on here act like this smoking policy is a law -- which it's not. NCL can make whatever rules they want. Just enjoy the fact that most of the ships space is smoke-free now.

as someone who is going to get other tests because there was a SPOT on my lung (smoked for decades) I applaud Norwegian!!!! When smoking was first banned in bars in my state, everyone thought they'd go under. they actually got MORE business.

thank you Norwegian!

ps. On the cruises I've been on, I've seen cigarettes flying off the balcony, and into the water.

totally unnacceptable IMO

Looks like Kevin did make sure the "team" disseminated the info on the GV.

Smooth...very smooth.

Thanks everyone for all of this info. Norwegian just plain rocks.

I was not going to get into this mix but..We have stayed in the DOS and The GV on the Gem...the sundeck of the Garden Villa is the other side of the wall of the DOS so if you are in the DOS on Deck 15 you are going to be disturbed by smoke if you are not a smoker. The so called private sun deck of the GV is also adjacent to the Haven Sun Deck on 15 so this is all just a game of money. This should really destroy the theory about SOLAS regulations and insurance. We have only stayed in Haven rooms on the Jewel Class ships and I can assure you that that smoke from the GV will drive people nuts on the Haven Sundeck. Yes we are smokers but we will not spend $15-20,000 on a cruise. Obviously there were GV cancellations and someone decided to see things a little different. This is all economics for NCL and I am very disappointed. The DOS has no rooms around it either except the GV so why not allow smoking there?? The Jewel class ships have a very different setup. Sorry NCL have to call you out on this one, and I have already cancelled my future cruises.

That statement is not true. There is a large holding space between the two sun decks where loungers and assorted tables are stored. The two sun decks are not adjacent by any stretch of the imagination. I have observed this space both from the Haven sun deck side and the GV sun deck side.

I have stayed in both so we can agree to disagree, I believe it is true, we were able to talk to our GV neighbors on the DOS on the Gem. The point is for $20,000 you can smoke. I had no neighbors or even nearby balcony in my DOS so why No smoking? The whole thing is moot. Big money talks. I love my NCL trips but just booked a Presidential Suite at an amazing AI for half the money. I wish everyone safe sails and wonderful cruises.

Wow they are so backwards when it comes to ships leaving the USA with their smoking policies. I cannot believe that it is still acceptable over there to smoke inside a casino knowing the dangers of smoking not just to players but also to staff. Over here it is banned in all enclosed spaces and strictly enforced on the grounds of the health and safety of the employees.

Cruise lines departing from the UK including NCL and RCI do not allow smoking in any inside spaces INCLUDING the casinos. Why is there this strange stance in the US that people "need" to smoke whilst gambling ?

I can't talk for RCI, but I've departed from Southampton twice recently on NCL ships and wasn't aware of any special smoking rules on either of those cruises.

That is quite possible he's been following the threads and my emails to NCL but no it wasn't an auto response, it was a quick to the point answer and the wording was such that it couldn't have been auto.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I bet the casino will now become the smoking capital of the ship. Every time I visit the casino on NCL I end up smelling like smoke and now its going to get much worse. I am seriously reconsidering my loyalty to NCL.

Looking at articles on some websites it seems smoking in balconies affects the health of staff and other guests but smoking in casinos right by other passengers and casino staff is ok? So the non smoking casino players and staffs health has less value for some reason?

If this change makes the casino any worse ... I am not sure I can survive the abuse!
