I have to say I'm a little perturbed at how they make you sign for the cards and I really don't get how they "pick" which one's you have to sign for.

A month ago I purchased a $500 gift card. It came in the mail.

The following week I ordered another $500 gift card. It came in the mail.

Last week I ordered a few $100 gift cards...YOU HAVE TO SIGN FOR IT!!

Of course we work during the day and no one is ever here at the time they arrive for deliveries in my neighborhood. There's no option on the "we missed you" slip from UPS and they try again the following day. I was on my third and final "try" yesterday before they were sending it back. (They didn't give me the option to even go pick it up). I actually had to take a day off work to stay home and wait for them (was going to go in late but don't you know that THIS time UPS decided not to come at the regular time of 1:30pm and didn't show up until 3:30!).

I just don't get their logic of which cards you have to sign for.:cool:

Ok, end of rant. Just had to get that off my chest. :p

Yes there is an option. It's all on the infonotice...

If you have received an InfoNotice after one delivery attempt has been made, you can change your delivery options on UPS.com. Your options are:

Will Call: UPS will hold your package at a nearby location for you to collect.

Delivery to Another Address: Provide a different delivery address for the package.

Reschedule Delivery: Specify a future date you want UPS to deliver the package.

Return to Sender: UPS will return the package to the sender.

I've been ordering them for two years and only ever had to sign for $500 cards. $100 cards no matter how many I got at once, always come regular mail.

Fortunately there are several UPS stations/stores near us. As soon as I log in and see a tracking #, I have the card (s) held and I just go get them.

That's how it's been in the past for me too (sign for the $500 cards and not for the $100 cards). But this time it was the other way around. I even stuck the missed paper on the door with my authorization to "leave" and my signature and they wouldn't because it wasn't marked on the front to be able to leave and they left me another saying I must sign. :(

I am signed up for the UPS tracking and can see when it's out for delivery. I didn't realize you can call them up and have them hold it for you. I'll have to try that next time.

Yeah try that next time. I have no clue why they reversed the mailing process on you. Geesh.

Its very inconsistent. I have ordered 500 and had to sign. Then ordered 500 a different time and didn't have to sign. So weird.

Can someone explain to me how to buy these Verizon cards?

  • Log in to your verizon wireless account
  • on the first page you start at you will see a banner that says welcome and your name
  • below that to the right it will say verizon smart rewards and show you how many points you have
  • right below that is a small blue link that says redeem now
  • From there on the same line you can then select the gift cards or travel heading.
  • The fast way is to select the gift cards heading, look for carnival on the left side of the next page and select what you wish to order, 500 or 100 options.
  • If you pick the one that says travel you will go go a page that you can use to book hotels, cars, and cruises. To the left of it you will see travel gift cards. Hit that link and look for carnival on the left side, if you see it and there are cards available and not sold out you will be able to select and order.

They usually sell out within 8-24 hrs. So when you see them get em if you have the money and want/need them. Remember they can't be used to advance purchase bottomless bubbles or cheers but can be used when you get on board. They can be used for your deposit, to make a payment or even pay off your cruise however. Once on board you can use them to book your next cruise or added to your S&S account. Hope this helps!

PS, you can book hotels from there as well. We got a good deal on ours for an upcoming cruise. Just using some of the points to off set the room cost.

You can also book a full cruise with them. But there was not a lot of fine print for the booking. So I was not sure what I was really getting for guarantees and booking protection so I held off on that.

  • 2 weeks later...

Both $100 and $500 are still available.

They've both been available every time I've looked for the last little while. Hope this means they will continue to have a lot more available than in the past ! Its great to use the Verizon points to save 10% on my cruise. Especially since there is very little else to use the points for and actually get something meaningful (as opposed to using them to buy a sweepstakes entry for a 'chance' to win something).

Agree! I have been shocked that they have been available every time I look. It's nice because I can grab a $100 one here and there when I have the extra money and not just hope I have money available when they happen to be there. It was stressful (first world problems) haha. I not only got my whole cruise at 10% off, I got my excursions and onboard purchases at 10% off since I'm building my onboard credit now. Can't beat that!! If I gamble it's even 10% off :D.

No I LOVE that they make you sign for the 500$ ones...I purposely do not order the 100 ones for that reason. Our regular mail guy retired a few years back and we've had some suck ones since and not a regular one. It is bad when the neighbors have to meet up in the driveway to exchange misdelivered mail.

I bought one $500 card a while ago and booked my cruise with it. I kept looking and couldn't get any more for about a month, then they popped back up, I bought 2 more and put them away. A week or so ago, Carnival ran a special, pay in full ahead of time and get a $200 OBC. Turns out it cost me $10 each because the fare went up and I lost the $50 OBC I had BUT it was a net gain of $130 and I got my whole cruise at 10% off! Just bought a few $100 gift cards to put on my sign &sail account when we get onboard.

I buy them also to book a future cruise while on the ship. But now to pay off the cruise I booked I am using some points for my Carnival card because you can only use the points and earn 2x on a Carnival purchase?? I think this is correct... So I have a question, can you use the Carnival gift card in the casino? Can you use it rather than a CC to apply to your onboard expenses or do you just present it at the excursion desk and casino and they swipe it there?

Also, I have heard that some onboard credit can't be used in the Casino. Can someone clarify that? thanks

I have read in another post basically the same thing. I have 300,000 plus points and have never seen anything I would use them for until now. Way it figures, I'll save enough on my cruise payment to pay for the grats. All thanks to these boards and the people passing on good information. Planning on getting as many as I can for family too. Read you add them to your S&S account once on board. 10% doesn't seem like much but it will add up. Again thanks

I have a ? about these. Lets say you bought $2000.00 worth in the $500 increment and put them on your sail and sign account but did not use the money, can you just cash out in the casino and get $2000.00 that you only paid $1800.00 for?

This would seem like if you are going on a cruise and wanted to convert those Verizon points to cash, this would be an easy way if I am correct, does someone know please before I buy several of these?

If you search the thread, all of these questions have been asked and answered soooo many times.

If you don't use all you load on your s&s account, you can cash out at the casino or the kiosk at the end of your cruise. If that doesn't work (and there are varying reports of being able to cash out on some ships but not others) or you don't attempt to cash out, your balance will be returned to you in the form of a new gift card. Just as fyi, I have never had trouble cashing out. Either way, you never lose the balance unless it's left on there and is less than I think $10, then it goes to St. Jude. And that's the case for every passenger.

As far as delivery time, it varies but usually anywhere from 5-7 days. $500 cards come UPS and must be signed for. $100 cards come regular mail. Delivery frame is about the same whether regular or UPS. This is my experience and I've paid off two cruises plus spending money onboard 100% with gift cards so far. Working on next years cruise now.

I can help you with this question...

Using your post...

-Put your $2000 worth of gift cards on your sign & sail during your cruise.

-Go to the casino and add them ($1500 per day per person) in the slot machine and spin one time.

-Then go to he the cashier and cash out.. it's that simple..

I just did this a little over a month ago with out any problem. In fact I did it with $5500 of Verizon gift cards over a 7 day cruise and made a total of $7.23 on the spins before cashing out each night.

Cruise churning, I like it! Max out at $1500 on a 7 day cruise, and you end up making just over $1k. Literally pays for your cruise! I'm going ot have to experiment a bit when I go in January:)

Being casino stupid... Do you sit down at a slot machine and enter $1500 or go to the casino window and enter have them apply the $1500?

Sorry I am so stupid:)!

You sit down at a slot machine make a 4 digit pin number (you will make this number the 1st time you use your sign and sail card at the casino) and then just enter the amount you want to play with.
