Could anyone please give us some real insight into NCL's Unlimited Drink Plan. Is it worth it? Do you have to purchase it for the entire cruise or can you get it per day? What is the break even point? We don't want to get it for 7 days if we are ashore in Bermuda for three days. Thank You

It has to be purchased for the entire cruise and every person in the cabin has to purchase it. Hope this helps.

Do you have to purchase it for the entire cruise or can you get it per day? The Ultimate Drink Package is per person, 21 and over, for the whole cruise, no exceptions. What is the break even point? We don't want to get it for 7 days if we are ashore in Bermuda for three days. Thank You

You answered your own question. Hard to be worthwhile with three days ashore, unless you have a mighty thirst.

We spent a lot of time thinking about the UBP for our cruise to Bermuda on the Breakaway. Thinking about the $350 per person averaging to (we used $8 per drink) meant we would have to drink 44 drinks for the cruise, which further broke down to 6-7 drinks per day.

 

Now you can insert your own drinking patterns and figure it out. We did not get it and I am glad we didn't. I averaged 3-4 drinks per day and on the Bermuda days 1-2.

 

One cabin in our traveling party did get the plan. I am sure it was worth it to them as they drank well over 7 drinks a day.

 

I think it really depends on how much you like to or do drink on vacation.

Just off the Sun today. Purchased UBP on Day1 and came to our senses on Day 3 and had it reversed. Charge for 7 night cruise for 2: $949.90. Our total alcohol bill: $541. $409 difference. So glad we realized the mistake we made. When asked why we wanted to reverse it, I stated that it was probably a good deal for DH (not really true, but I wanted to give them something to think about here), but there was no way I could keep up with the amount of drinking necessary to make it worth it. Told him it was too bad it was mandatory for everyone in the same cabin to purchase it. Maybe if they hear that enough, they will reverse the requirement for all in the cabin to purchase it. The $541 included at $15 charge for one bottle of wine I brought with me on embarkation.

Mimosa at breakfast, 4-5 poolside, a glass of wine or 2 with dinnner, drinks at the casino and/or during a show they add up quick. We are not walking around passed out drunk either. Over teh course of an entire day, its easy for a lot of people on vacation.

My husband doesn't drink at all - but I do enjoy drinking with cruising. I would buy it for myself, but no way when they require that it be purchased for both of us. Other cruiselines that have implemented beverage packages have gotten over that requirement, and now allow individuals to purchase the packages.

Ncl needs to get more in line with other cruise lines. I will never purchase it as long as they require my kids to buy the soda package also. They don't drink soda.

I agree with you on this. We ended up getting the All inclusive promo that they had, because we enjoy the specialty dining rooms. Also, we like to try different types of drinks, and it will be nice to not have to worry about whether or not we like the drink that we ordered, because it will be included. I know that once you find a good bartender, and if they make you a drink and you don't like it that they will usually make you another one without charging you, but I feel bad when that happens. I just like the thought of knowing that I can try different drinks.

 

On our last cruise, we met a couple that bought the UBP (we didn't on that cruise), and they made the most of it. They ALWAYS had a bloody mary and a beer in their hand. :eek: Didn't matter what time of day it was. I don't know how they did it, but they were a blast to hang out with, and they weren't obnoxious or anything. :)

Maybe someone can explain this to me. If the idea behind forcing parents to buy soda packages for kids who don't drink soda is to prevent obtaining sodas with the parents' UBP for the kids who do drink soda, why can just one person in a cabin purchase the soda package? No one else in the cabin is forced to purchase a package they don't need or want. I don't follow that reasoning, so I'm thinking I'm missing something. :confused:

Well it goes fast....

 

One or 2 mimosa in the morning, 2 glasses of wine with dinner and a couple of Martini later..and that's when docked in port.

 

Of course during the sea days you can add a few drinks poolside...

 

I break even with the package, but at least I do not have to worry about a surprise ill at the end...I know what it will be, and I can try drinks I wouldn't normally.

I have never purchased this package in the past, but we do have a high alcohol bill. I find the explanation of what drinks you can buy confusing. Can you buy any alcoholic beverage, glass of beer or wine as long as it is under $10?
