Dress code for breakfast/lunch in MDR or ATD?

My question is specific to dress code for breakfast/lunch in MDR or ATD. Anticipating warm weather on Mexico cruise and usually wear shots and t-shirts during the day. I do not wish to offend.

I'm fairly new to cruising and wonder if it's ok to wear t-shirt and cargo/walking shorts, walking shoes/sandals for dining breakfast/lunch in MDR or ATD on at sea days. Or must one wear smart casual i.e.. collared shirt and long pants?

I do adhere to the dress code for dinner i.e. smart casual/suit on Formal Nights.

Thank you.

Yes what you mention is fine in the DR, buffet etc for breakfast/lunch, no muscle shirts, or bathing suits in the DR. We have been on some cruise where baseball caps were requested to be removed in the DR. Depends on the ship. Have seen a ton of baseball caps recently so maybe thats a moot point.

If you wear a bathing suit in the buffet a cover up is requested.

Breakfast and Lunch in the DR is casual, just like the dress you described. The DR does not serve lunch on port days. Just walk in anytime it's open and you will be seated. ATD refers to dinner only in the DR and dress is either smart casual or formal as described in the Princess FAQ. For dinner no shorts for men & women. Many men will be in suit & tie, but you will see some men in shirt & tie with no jacket, sport jacket and tie, sport jacket w/o a tie, and a few just a collared shirt. About 20%/25% will be in true formal wear. Women seem to always be dressed nicely but not necessarily in gowns.

FYI, breakfast is also available in the buffet, and continental breakfast items are available at the International Cafe . Lunch is also served every day in the buffet, the Trident Grill, Prego Pizza, Alfredo's Pizza (Grand Princess), International Cafe, and on sea days there is a Pub Lunch at either the Crown Grill or Wheelhouse Bar depending on the ship. All the above are no charge.

To clarify more, when we refer to the "MDR," these are the (usually) three main dining rooms on the ship. On Princess, one is usually the traditional dining room for dinner, and the other time are for anytime dining for dinner (even though because of the popularity of traditional dining, often on of these will have an early-early traditional seating around 5:30, and when those diners depart, their tables are used for anytime dining).

During the day, one of these dining rooms will be used for breakfast and sea day lunch -- on an open seating basis. And as noted, the dress code is casual, so tee shirts (as long as not the "man beater" type), shorts, flip flops are okay.
