Canadian cruisers!!

Recommended Posts

Me too. Thanks for this thread.

.... and me three!! :D:D $300 U.S. for $330 Canadian is a great deal. As mentioned before though, the confirmation only shows the amount paid in Canadian dollars but once it shows on my VISA account, I will print out a copy. (I'm guessing it should show a purchase of $300 U.S. at $1.10) Happy cruising everybody!

We booked all our specialty restaurants and bev. pkg/ earlier this past week. At that time the US to Cdn price was 10% variance. Much better than doing this on board in US$ and having credit card exchange rates. Hard hit Cdn Loonies is costing vacation funds. Even at the updated Royal change in fees, and you can plan, its still less than the bank/credit card  exchanges.

Thanks so much $300USD for $330 is awesome!!! Anyone getting more so that they can have it for after cruise?

No point in buying extra OBC. I just called and any unused OBC that is purchased is credited back to your Canadian credit card at the same rate. You can't cash out and get USD. We may buy a little bit for just in case purposes but we bought wine and specialty dining already in CDN so not very much left to spend onboard. We prepaid our gratuities as well.

I think that you received a wrong answer (big surprise) as someone posted on here that they have received either cash or a cup heck the last night at guest services.

Also OBC can be bought as a gift from others and would be refunded to the recipient of the gift not the gift giver.

Very easy. Just go to casino and get cash on your account. Very simple. Do if all the time.

We always put obc on our account before we go. When we get on board we have a cash account. When we close our account they always give us cash back. They never have put it back on our cc. Yes they always pay ue in US cash.

Just added $499 USD OBC at 1.10 exchange rate. Any amount of $500 or over needs a faxed request to 800-722-5810 with photo ID and both sides of credit card along with letter requesting amount, name, reservation number.

I asked if an email with all of the same info in a scanned attachment would work and unfortunately the answer is no. I don't even remember the last time I used a fax machine or where it even is at the office!

Alot of people have been saying this. They let me put a $500 and a $600 obc on and just took my cc over the phone no questions asked. Here is a copy where it shows both. It must be left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.

Royals "rule book" for the $500 must say over $500 and some of the reps are interpreting that to mean that it includes amounts of $500.

I had mine processed yesterday for $500 exactly or $550 CDN.:)

Merci! (Since this thread is for Canadians :D )

I was just able to put $500 on for $550 Cdn. We have two rooms so I'm thinking of putting more on the second room. Trying to figure out how much we need. I had been about to pull the trigger on drink packages but I read on another thread that they bumped the rates for Canadians late last week. Now I'm thinking it's cheaper to pump up the OBC and then buy everything on ship, paying it off with the OBC. I haven't paid our gratuities yet. I wonder what the exchange rate on those is right now.

Just got $300 obc for $330 CAD for our March cruise. Also booked the Allure TA for Oct at a great price in CAD that included our gratuities in CAD. Should have done this months ago before our dollar tanked.

Thanks for the heads up to op.

To all the doubters out there - yes 100% if u paid for ur cruise in canadian dollars - u can buy a ship board credit and pay in canadian dollars (not allowed to buy in USD).

They take their exchange rate (RCI's) which today is 10% and bill u in Canadian dollars for the credit. U get what u purchased in Usd on the ship (ie I bought a usd 800.00 ship board credit in the amount of cad 880.00).

I WILL get usd when i get to the ship - and I WILL get usd 800.00) this is why I paid RCI the exchange today. Most cruise lines only visit their exchange rates 1 or 2. times a year - (not daily, not weekly, not monthly).

I hope this helps all - I love these boards for this reason - for the wealth of information and tricks of the trade.

Definitely check about paying your gratuities up front. On my cruise this March and my one last December I paid less in CDN$ than what they were charging in US$. I paid $11.82 pp per day CDN$ vs $12.00 US$. I had booked these cruises using next cruise certificates that I had bought a year and a half ago so the exchange rate was locked in at that time.

I paid my gratuities in CDN dollars as well and paid a bit less than it would have been in USD. With our dollar tanking the way it is, I'm doing as much in CDN before I go.....

I'm hoping that the new deployment schedule that is released this spring does not reflect the full extent of the exchange. That would definitely cause us to consider last minute bookings.

Hey neighbours :D

I read this thread, and I may have missed my answer. So, I will ask it --

If I call and put on say $200 OBC.. can I use that money to purchase a future cruise while on board? Or does the OBC have to be used for purchases during the cruise only. We are cruising in April, and if possible, I would use that OBC to book a future cruise(next schedules to be released for 2016) , and if I can, I will put more money in my OBC and pay off more of the cruise I am booking for 2016

I hope I am explaining it correctly...

Next Cruise Certificates can only be booked by using a credit card. They can not be paid for using OBC.
