3000 trip on Anthem or 3000 on Disney Magic?

Recommended Posts

If you had to choose between spending on Anthem or spending the money on Disney, Anthem is 8 days going from NJ to PC, coco cay, Nassau. Disney sails out of PC to Key West, GC, Cozumel, and Castaway Cay. I like Anthem, their features, Dining options, entertainment. Disney I like the dining options, entertainment which Disney is known for, the Aquaduck and the intenerary. So my question is do you go for the ship which has an ok inteneray or do you go for the cruise with Disney which I know we would have fun on,and Castaway Cay which I heard is one of the best private island.

BTW were in our 30s with no kids, I know most of you will probably say RC, but both of my me and my DW are big Disney fans so any insight would help, we've never sailed either Cruise line, only Carnival.

I would say go Disney since you say you are big Disney fans and have never been on one of their ships before.

Anthem, Disney Dream or Fantasy! :D Magic and Wonder are showing their age big time ! JMO

As you can see I'm also a big Disney fan! TIME SPENT WITH DISNEY ( Totals 386 days 353 nts)

Aquaduck is not even close in size or fun to the two ships I mentioned above. It is a small add on to the Magic!

Choose Anthem if the ship is more important to you than the destination. Personally, if I'm going to spend $3000 for a cruise, it better be sailing somewhere in Europe or Australia!:D I agree with Maxwell regarding the itinerary.

Would definitely go with the Disney cruise ! We were on the Wonder last year and had 2 stops at Castaway Cay ! It was the best private island we have been on ! The itinerary on Anthem isn't worth the money for us. What would you be doing at your PC stop? Probably spending the day at Disney. And there is a good chance you could miss CC due to weather !Enjoy whatever you choose !

;) I agree. That particular itinerary is dreadful.

I would only do that itinerary when it's dirt cheap, like the equivalent 7-night Breakaway sailings out of NYC (visiting GSC instead of CC) that can be half the price of the 8-night Anthems at some times during the year. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for that itinerary either.

Since you've sailed before....is the ship more important to you, or the itinerary?

magic has the better itinerary by far.

having just gotten off of quantum (anthem's sister ship), it blew away any other cruise i've ever gone on. i love my disney cruises, but we tend to do 3 or 4-night disneys because i think we'd get bored otherwise. we are night people, and there's just nothing to do at night. royal has activities all the time. i thought the disney plays were cute, but on the newer ship royal has them beat by a mile (i know plenty of people disagree with me on that, but the disney plays seem much more amateur hour to us than the royal broadway-style and cirque-style shows). palo, the disney adults-only restaurant, is the best specialty i've eaten at, but royal has more specialty restaurants to choose from and they are still very good, and MDR food on royal has been better than on disney, including doing dynamic dining on quantum.

so, if itinerary/ports were my first concern, i'd be ok with the magic. but if i cruise to experience the ship, i'd do anthem, hands down.

(and just so you know where i'm coming from - we're doing an anthem cruise in dec with the horrible port canaveral/nassau/coco cay itinerary, just to experience the ship. but we are big disney fans, too - had annual passes 2 of the last 3 years even though we live 1000 miles a way, because we still go 2-3 times a year most years.)

Disney has a great itinerary, that's for sure. One other thing to consider is Disney's lack of casino. If that's important to you, I'd pick a Royal ship. I'd also pick a Freedom class or Oasis/Allure over Anthem (and I loved Quantum--the ship). It's a lousy itinerary. We couldn't get to Coco Cay, and that was the one place we were looking forward to.

DW only wants to sail in April cause living in Canada sucks in the winter time, she doesn't want to sail during Hurricane season, we sailed in Nov on Carnival from San Juan and had one sea day, she felt exhausted after the ports. She has diabetes so needs to eat, the thing we found with Carnival was some of the food choices weren't open long enough. The previous Carnival was on the Breeze where we went to Grand Turk, Nassau, and Jamaica, we had an excursion booked to Atlantis but we were supposed to do it the last day, but someone had a heart attack and had to go there first, so sometimes we go for the port but we booked the Breeze for the ship. She doesn't like Pepsi since she married me and that's why NCL is out of the question

We've sailed DCL quite a bit and the Magic will always have a special place in our hearts as it was our first cruise ever. That said, we saild her just over a year ago after an extensive drydock and the results were less than stellar. She got a new coat of shellac and polish but the systems were in trouble. Lots of plumbing back ups, or fridge died day one, etc. The Magic is an old ship and it shows. On the plus side service and entertainment are top notch. Not trying to sway you, just a little extra info.
