A Complete Guide for New Smoking Areas on NCL vessels

Any outdoor covered areas with seating, not bar stools?

On the Peal? Yes. Pretty much all of one side of the pool deck was smoking with tables and seats for plenty. It was the most generous smoking area I have seen in a long while. Plus it was totally covered.

Excited to hear this about the Escape. The only bad thing about the Vibe on the Breakaway was that roughly 60 - 70% of the people were smoking, and not just at the bar. Still had a blast, but yes lots of smoke.

I never saw anyone in the Breakaway Vibe smoking outside the permitted/designated area. I'm curious to know if Vibe passes sell out as rapidly on the Escape as they did on the Breakaway out of NYC.

I think having all the amenities; bar, lounge chairs, hot tubs & a designated smoking area in close proximity was the draw for smokers and why the majority of people willing to run the gauntlet to get those passes were smokers.

Good to know! Where is the Pearl's homeport? I only cruise out of NYC.

Were the places to smoke on the Escape very crowded? Trying to figure out were I can enjoy my morning coffee and smoke on the Escape.

Does the H2O Bar and Waves Bar have plenty of room to relax and enjoy your cocktail and smoke.

I REALLY hope not to hear rude comments.

H2O in the early morning was fabulous to relax and have a cig and coffee, as not a lot of people are really in that area til the bar opens at 10. (plus there's really clean bathrooms, ahem)

Since NCL does not list designated smoking areas by ship anywhere on their website, I thought that I would try to create a document for NCL cruisers.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing

This document/thread is for objective informational purposes!!! Thanks you for your cooperation :D

I am looking for more information to complete the spreadsheet. I went back a year and a half on this thread to get what I could. Looking for help from anyone that has current information not on the spreadsheet and any changes/updates.

The entire bar was filled with smokers. The bartender tried to tell people they couldn't smoke near the fruit/garnishes, but people ignored him. Then some people would be sitting at the bar and since no seats were left, people talking to them were standing away from the bar more, towards the loungers, still smoking. Cooler days, all rules went out the window, and people were smoking near the rails, hot tubs, etc.

Sorry that was your experience but none of that happened on the 3 times I had Vibe passes on the Breakaway. Just depends on who is cruising and whether they follow the rules I guess.

Sorry to say that the Bliss is down to just 3 (cigarette) smoking areas. The cigar lounge is not allowing cigarette smokers. Staff is asking people to leave and there is a new sign posted stating cigar smoking only. Which means if the casino is closed, and you are not a Haven guest, you smoke outside in the elements on 17 (Spice H20)

Don't get me wrong, it didn't ruin my time in Vibe at all. I'm a non-smoker, and don't appreciate smoke, but also realize that it is something I have to deal with in areas where it is allowed, like the casino etc. But with smoking on a downward trend, I was surprised at the sheer number of Vibe regulars who smoked. It really didn't bother me, but for people who may be more sensitive or sticklers for the rules, it could have been an issue.

Thank you for the updated information! Anyone else have information that I can add to the spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing

A cruise ship with a passenger capacity over 4000 and only one designated outdoor smoking area is BEGGING for "balcony" smokers along with the associated fire hazards. I don't know what genius made that decision ;p

Agree, it seems only Breakaway and Getaway have a decent amount of smoking areas. I'm on Breakaway and on deck 8 so I'm good :)

Thank you SO MUCH for creating this spread sheet! I can confirm your information on the Dawn. Smoking on Deck 12/Pool allowed on Port side. Breakaway looks right but it's been a few years since I was on her. Will be on Pearl the first week of October and I'm greatful for your information!

Good to know that the information is correct :D

Hope when you get back you will help with Pearl information!

Enjoy your cruise

Your spreadsheet will eventually get lost in this thread. Considering it is valuable info, how do we get it to be a sticky?

Another suggestion would be to add a link to the spreadsheet in the signature. That way, anyone can find it or see it whenever the creator makes a post (similar to Keith's dining guide).

I'm not sure . . .

I assume only moderators of cruise critic can pin information. As I update, I will repost the link to the spreadsheet, but that is all that I can do :D

Hopefully NCL will eventually see a need to have this type of information somewhere on their website so that guests don't have to do their work for them, lol.

  • 4 weeks later...

I spoke with several people at NCL and they all said that you are allowed to smoke on The Waterfront on deck 8. Also if you go on the NCL website and look up their smoking policy it says you can smoke there.

Not for Escape.

"On Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway, smoking on The Waterfront will be permitted on the starboard side, except by the outdoor dining areas" - NCL
