I wish I had known. I did ask the HAL rep if I could but she said no. We are going to take the FCD's we have and ask the FCC on the Volendam to change them to Canadian. I guess we'll get to use then in the future.

Call Seattle. I know at least two roll call members that got them changed . I now have a useless $USD one so I will call when I get home

By this time, I think we were all struggling! (Seven of us from the roll call, Kazu, Mumsysailor, Scrapnana and us) - Actually the dessert was served next, but the menu says the cheeses, so here they are, and they were tasty, and nice with the honey:

Those doing self-embarkation were called around 7:20 (I was still in bed but I got up to hear what the announcement was ). Seems like people were in a hurry to get off this morning. I had chosen the latest time slot since I was staying in Seattle and knew my room would likely not be ready. The letter I received with the luggage tags said it would be 9 am but we were actually called at 8:30. Disembarkation was a breeze. Nobody in front of me at the gangway and only two people (and they were friends) ahead of me at customs. Walked outside the terminal, plenty of cabs and checked in at my hotel by 9:00. They even were able to find me a room right away. The only bad thing is I am not on the ship anymore!:(

I miss everyone!

Miss you too Kathi. Enjoy Seattle and safe travels. Hoping we see you next year.

Not finished yet, Kazu! As a chocaholic, I did my best to demolish the dessert - which actually came before the cheese. The late season sauvignon blanc that came with it was so good, I wanted to order it at another PG dinner, but they didn't sell it by the glass, and a bottle was $39, if I had known ahead of time, I would have bought the bottle right at the beginning of the cruise, and made my way through it bit by bit!

And finally, the end! The white truffles were so popular they brought additional plates full! It was a very delectable dinner.:)

I'm in the middle of cooking dinner now. Afraid my meal will not live up to this!

Wonderful pics! Did you hear about the glass of wine I ordered in the PG that I discovered cost $29 a GLASS?!!

Lizzie68,

Did you have the sommiler recommend a glass to you to go with your dinner?

Because that happened to my husband and I on our last cruise. It was the best Malbec I have ever had and at $22.00 a glass was ouch!

We both had 2 glasses! Nice bill afterwards. But hey on Vacation right😄

Yes, it was her recommendation. I had tried one Riesling, which was kind of sweet, and she said she had another one which was dry and more to my taste. Yeah, it sure was, but DH almost fell off the chair when he saw the receipt, LOL! Good thing it was on MY beverage card, haha.:D

I enlarged the photos, but I don't recognise any of those people, sorry. Were they at either of our M&Gs?

Any way have a great evening!

I am happy my 2 favorite basketball teams played Spurs and clippers, and clippers won!

Where is my $22.00 wine now! LOL

I always love to receive the Cruise Log...I hate that it is the end of the voyage...but if anything can soften that blow it is reading the Cruise Log.

We received the Cruise Log for this trip after 20 days in Vancouver. Here are some of the facts for the Sail Away Gang:

We left Fort Lauderdale at 4:50 PM on Saturday April 11 under partly cloudy skies and 28 (82) degrees.

We travelled a total mileage of 5896 NM and burned 216 tons of diesel per day and 90 tons of gas per day via the diesel generators and the gas turbine.

1,700 tons of potable water were produced each day while 750 tons were consumed.

There were 2055 passengers from Ft. Lauderdale to San Diego and 1683 from Ft. Lauderdale to Vancouver. There were 802 crew.

I certainly thought there were more crew than that! I am still doing laundry and unpacking but it is back to work for me.

Thank you for sharing this information. Ugh laundry. As great as your cruise was, I bet it's nice to be home and getting settled back in. I wish I could over hear the conversations your children have with teachers and other students when they return to school.

Somewhere in this thread was a request for pictures of the supplies we gathered for the children's school. Now that I am home I have access to the pre-travel pictures as well as some of the pictures I took while the roll call gathered to stuff the pencil cases and distribute the supplies to the children. This excursion was organized by Kazu who planted the seed on our roll call.

The pencil cases before packing:

On a sea day we gathered to organize the supplies brought on board by the roll call. It was amazing to see the generosity of people.

There were toothbrushes, toothpaste, pencils, stickers, notebooks, printer ink cartridges, coloured pencils and crayons, calculators and rulers.....to name just a few of the supplies brought to donate.

We formed a line and everyone had an item to put in each case:

But the pencil cases were just the beginning. Kazu asked HAL to donate some blue bags so we could each carry one off the ship and onto the excursion buses so not to raise any interest by authorities:

more pictures to come!

When gathered together in Kazu's cabin it was overwhelming to see the generosity of people on the roll call who came together to support children.

Once we arrived at the school many of us noticed this...we thought that all children must have shared....

ry%3D400

Look at the expression on these beautiful children. Some could just not believe this was real. One little girl was refusing to take a pencil case. I thought she must think we would take them back. I offered two and she declined until I pulled out one covered in hearts. Her face lit up and she accepted it with a huge "gracias" (I sure hope I spelled that correctly!).

Note the small hand on Kazu's back and my daughter had just given this little boy the crocodile pencil case. He thanked her and went to show his friends. Within 2 minutes he came back to Natalie and gave her a huge hug thanking her over and over.

great pics Gail. thanks so much for posting them. sitting in Montreal waiting for my final flight. Sadly, all the bags are packed and on the plane but we are heading home.

Many great memories and I have to say that the children's school was one of the highlights for us along with our marvelous roll call.

I have to say that it really hit home when Carlos sent me the list of supplies that the school needed. So many things that we take for granted.

We are all so lucky to be able to cruise. It was really nice to give back while we were doing it.

Many thanks to all who contributed and to HAL who lent me 10 extra HAL bags so we could walk off "discreetly".

I think we had a total of 23 bags of goodies if I recall correctly. It was a really great day!

Off to check out their FB page. How nice they said thank you. So sweet.

I saw the numbers on the Cruise Log too. What I found amazing is that we had fewer people on the last 4 days, but it sure felt like we had a LOT more.

LOL. thank heavens for the PG for lunch. :)

They did not tell us how many boarded in San Diego, only how many boarded in Ft. Lauderdale. I was told there was only 100 passenger difference once we left San Diego. That was by the head in Club Hal. But who knows...the ship certainly felt full...and sounded it too! :)

It sure felt more full than pre-San Diego. I am actually shocked at the number of crew - for that many passengers there used to be more crew members than that. But they did an awesome job.

Now you quit picking on the those Coastal passengers, you never know many of them could be going on to Alaska, like we usually do.:D:D:D
