lauraodonnell86 Posted May 30, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2015 We just returned today from a 4 night Bahamas cruise (5-29-15) and yesterday they announced we were going to pick up the speed because there was a medical emergency and we needed to get the person back ASAP. So we went from 8 knots to 19.5 very quickly and were back to Florida by 11 pm the night before we were to arrive. I was just curious about what the emergency was!? If anyone knows, that'd be great! dbali Posted May 30, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2015 All I have seen posed here was that someone was put on an ambulance at the pier.
cruisingsince94 Posted May 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2015 Whatever the situation was I hope the individual is going to be okay. On a lighter note it could be that someone fainted after viewing their bar bill and charges for the cruise.

Quick question, did the 11 pm arrival have any effect on debarkation?

Ourusualbeach Posted May 30, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 30, 2015 Just curious but why would you want to know more than "it was for a medical emergency". Does it make a difference if someone had a heart attack, stroke, needed some other surgery.... Bottom line is the ships Doctor and Captain made the call to get to shore quickly to help the guest. That's all that matters and all we need to know. Hope the person is OK.
BND Posted May 30, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) Unless the family or individual publicly releases the info you'll never know. I know people are curious but it's really no one's business. This question gets asked every couple of weeks about a ship's change to schedule, return to port, etc and other than a couple of publicly released items, we never find out. yogimax Posted May 30, 2015 #9 Share Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) Sadly, medical emergencies are almost to be expected. We were on a nine night cruise and there were four medical emergencies. It's a factor of the demographics. Edited May 30, 2015 by yogimax
lauraodonnell86 Posted May 30, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted May 30, 2015 I was more interested in if someone got hurt or if someone was sick. Just being nosey like most of the other people on board! I agree, I hope they are ok!

theredwoodguy Posted May 31, 2015 #17 Share Posted May 31, 2015 I too was on this cruise and wondered myself. I don't think that makes me a bad guy for wondering. I suppose those that have commented on this being none of our business are the same ones that only look straight ahead when passing an accident on the highway. You know it's an wreck. What more do you need to know? Hope that the person who fell ill is feeling better. And yes to the one that asked, the casino did close early. I cruise quite a bit and this has never happened so just got me thinking. Hope you had a good cruise! We really enjoyed it as we had never been to the Bahamas! We always cruise Southern Caribbean in January!
Broyumad Posted May 31, 2015 #19 Share Posted May 31, 2015 There were plenty of stories going around. What I did see was an Indian man being taken off the ship and put in an ambulance on a stretcher, he also seemed to be intubated so I am assuming it was pretty serious! This....and also does it really matter. It seems like every time a ship comes to port early someone starts a thread about it and it's always the same sorts of posts...this really isn't anything new, and probably not really worth starting a new thread about.... but that's just me, maybe I'm too much of a grump :D
