hotel in Amsterdam

Recommended Posts

Too many to mention. But if you use the search function many hotels will come up used by other cc=ers. This question has come up so many times.

Be aware that it will be almost imposible to find a room between September 10 and 14 due to a major convention.

We stayed in Boogards Bed and Breakfast and it was the best experience we have ever had in a hotel or BnB. Peter, the owner, goes fully out of his way to make your stay wonderful, the house is spotless, bed comfortable, he helped us navigate Amsterdam easily and his cooking is amazing. Can't wait to go back.

So much depends on your budget and where you want to be. Overlooking a canal...near the train station...further from the city centre?

We used tripadvisor.com and the forums there to research and get recommendations from locals. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for two nights right nearby the Central train station. Very nice experience for first timers coming in via the train. Next time, as we are more familiar with the area, we will choose a different area for the bariety. I'd start by narrowing hotels by your budget and then go for the location. The public transportation is easy, so if you need to, that's your option. We walked miles over our two day stay and found it very fun and easy.

Like Ine has mentioned, the question must have been asked and answered at least several dozen times, so it is best to use the search function.

If you are there during the ITB convention, you will be paying big money, or have to find yourself a room at least 100 miles outside Amsterdam.

6 of us were there in May.We stayed 3 nights at RHO hotel located right off Dam Square. Nothing fancy, very convenient, reasonable price, very clean and very friendly staff. Also, unlike other hotels ,can cancel up to 48 hrs. before res. Other hotels charge CC when res. are made and their cancellation policy is and I quote"if you get sick you don't pay". Be careful when reserving! Good luck with your choice

we stayed at Hotel Estherea, on the Singel canal - a very charming boutique hotel...good location, we walked everywhere!

We stayed at the Brouwer Hotel earlier this month, also on the Singel Canal, very centrally located. We go back there again in August, loved the old world charm of this small boutique hotel. Payment in cash, they don't even require your CC info to reserve, just require you to reconfirm a few days in advance.

  • 3 weeks later...

Since we have Marriott points we were thinking of using them in Amsterdam. Has anyone stayed at the Marriott Amsterdam or the Renaissance Amsterdam? Is either a better location for walking and seeing the sights?

Thanks for the help.

We stayed at a small apartment on Brouwersgracht (Brewers Canal), near its junction with the Singel Canal mentioned by Carol & Prish. An ideal location - just yards from the busy tourist area (broadly Centraal station to Dam Square) but very quiet & quintessentially Amsterdam. And not far from the canal tours (mainly based around Centraal Station) and the Red Light district (not like Red Light districts elsewhere - here, the world & his wife walk the sights & sounds)

Renaissance is quite close to Brewers/Singel - marginally more convenient but not so quiet.

Marriot is handy for the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh & the Heineken brewery experience but rather less convenient for most other sights & experiences. Pretty bland & ugly building too, but I've no idea what it's like to stay there.

JB :)
