Smoking area on Equinox boat deck

I'm hoping you don't go into this with as unhappy an attitude as it appears. The IT and Customer Service you get beforehand has nothing at all in common with what you'll find on board. That's well known.

I can't imagine anyone being more sensitive to smoke than I am, and I hardly even SEE a smoker on X, much less smell the smoke, and we spend time in all those areas. Celebrity has such a restrictive smoking policy, and you really won't see many.

Let's just assume you're going to have a great cruise, and that you'll be able to use your balcony all you want. The thing about that deck 5 area is that it's not at a bar and it's not really conducive to hanging out. People mostly just jump out there after a meal for a quick smoke, and from what I have seen, it's not terribly common. I've walked that part of the deck many times and have seen no one, or the people I have seen aren't smoking at all.

Really, you're going to love your cruise. Please come back here and let us know how it went.

Excellent post. I'll second what you have said.

hi we are on the ship in september my husband usually has a smoke after dinner would this be ok

and are these the only decks to smoke on

thanks

Smoking areas on Equinox are:

  • Deck 5: Port Side, mid-ship on the hump to the left as you exit the interior right around the first lifeboat
  • Deck 12: Port Side, as you enter the Pool area from the mid-ship elevator lobby
  • Deck 14: Starboard Side at the Mast Bar

Hope this helps...

Thank you for confirming. I am now, officially, dreading my upcoming cruise. I wish that X had put such information on deck plans. Yes, I probably should have done better research. (thank you for those who will flame). This is turning out to be a disaster when it was supposed to be lovely.

Our last three cruises on the Equinox have been on deck 6 above the smoking area, very little, if any smoke smell on the balcony. Only time you might have a problem is when the ship is not moving and there is no wind. When it is moving or if there is a breeze there will not be a problem. So please don't assume your cruise is ruined before you even board.

Did you research the smoking location(s) before booking your cabin? Hardly Celebrity's fault.

Unfortunately the ship is completely sold out. Lesson learned. First and, perhaps, last Celebrity cruise.

Ok, I regretfully disagree. Just got off the phone with the mis-nomered "Customer Service" who once again LIED TO ME directly to my "face" about the smoking areas sometimes changing. In short they said "tough luck, you lose" in no such words.

So hubby and I are now out a LOT of $ or we face being locked inside our balcony while others enjoy their "right" to smoke right under us.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE X. Never again.

Wonder if she smelled smoke?

If its so "horrible" and you may be locked inside your cabin due to smoke, why not just cancel the cruise?

I would much prefer that they would locate ALL smoking areas at the rear of the ship or in specific closed rooms so as not to impact anyone. I have had WAY too many bad experiences of smoke on balconies, from smoking areas above and below, and casinos. Restaurants, malls, resorts and even parks have changed their policies. It is time for cruise lines to change. And yes, I spend more entertainment $$ where I don't have to worry about smoke.

Every Mass Market cruise line is going to structure their policies to appeal to the greatest number of people. That includes some smokers.

We've been taking cruise vacations for more than 25 years across a variety of cruise lines and during that time due to changing customer preferences the number of smoking areas has decreased dramatically. No more balcony or stateroom smoking, no more dining room smoking, no more theatre smoking, no more indoor bar smoking, on Celebrity at least no more Casino smoking.

However there remains some who want to smoke and they are accommodated in fewer and fewer areas, with less and less space. Today it is easy to avoid those relatively few spaces whereas in the past not so much.

Perhaps someday smoking on cruise ships will be banned completely but until that day, we all need to realize we are all in the same boat and understand that it can't all be our way, all the time.
