I'm trying to decide...are those stairs to a "pool" on the side of the park where that tree/bush thing is? Also - where is this going to be? I saw they are going to have the Haven, presumably regular pool and slides, so the only area this leaves is the back of the ship were Spice H20 is on the other ships.

And then the go cart track will be where the ropes course is on other ships.

Thoughts?

Yeah, that vertical white beam does appear to match the top deck where the ropes course was. And the big screen in the park may be a Spice H2O carryover? The fact it spans two decks throws me a bit - looks so much like existing midship design.

Since it is directed towards an Asian market, perhaps the Spice H20 isn't an important area. Perhaps they don't need another area to sunbathe and would rather have a serene park like atmosphere but also get some sun on the upper deck and then still have the big screen.

I would love to see the race track incorporated into Breakaway Plus 3, but I'm not sure the US market would accept a part in place of Spice H20 when the ship already doesn't have enough chairs/sunbathing capacity (Escape.)

Central Park is a beautiful area on Oasis of the Seas...love the cafe and walking around...but not much more you can do. It does get quite on it there and one could say it is a bit of a wasted space.

From CC article:

The features announced for Norwegian Joy, released by the line and at a Travel Weekly symposium in China, include:

*A two-level competitive racetrack on the top deck, the first at sea. Ten passengers will be able to race each other in electric carts over a five-to-six-minute course and have photos taken at the end.

*An open-air laser tag course, also on the top deck. The racetrack and laser tag course will occupy the same area that the ropes course does on Escape, Breakaway and Getaway.

*Norwegian's signature ship-within-a-ship concept, The Haven. Similar to other ships, the 74-suite Haven will have butler service, a dedicated concierge, priority access to specialty dining and entertainment, a private restaurant and an enclosed courtyard. On Joy, the Haven will also include a brand-new Observation Deck with the same view that ship officers experience from the bridge, as well as gourmet canapes and premium beverages.

*A new accommodations category called Concierge Level. Although this category is not as luxurious as the Haven, passengers in this category will have larger balcony cabins, as well as a new suite class with two bedrooms and a simulated balcony; access to a concierge, and an exclusive Concierge Lounge with a private bar and refreshments. The Concierge Level will be located on Deck 17, above the Haven.

*A new area for games and virtual reality simulators called the Galaxy Pavilion. This technology-heavy space will include hover craft bumper cars, a state-of-the-art racing simulator, three interactive dark ride simulators (where you appear to be riding roller coaster rides in the dark), Star Wars battle pods video game, six Xbox console stations and Oculus, a virtual reality game. The ship will also have karaoke rooms.

*Two multi-story waterslides. The Double Aqua Loop free fall slide has two loops, one that extends over the side of the ship and one that is see-through. The Aqua Racer slide allows passengers to race side-by-side on inner tubes for more than 360 feet.

*An open-air Serenity Park on the top deck, with greenery, a soothing pool and chaise lounges. Norwegian bills the park as the perfect spot to practice tai chi or yoga.

*An upscale shopping venue, the largest in Norwegian's fleet. The line says the store will feature high-end international brands, a move that's sure to appeal to brand-conscious cruisers.

*More family-friendly suites and rooms with connecting doors than on previous Norwegian ships, to appeal to the Chinese tendency to travel with multiple generations. Unlike other Norwegian Cruise Line ships built recently, Norwegian Joy will not have single cabins.

*Twenty-nine restaurants, including a Korean barbecue and a Japanese shabu shabu establishment. There will also be a formal tea room. Further details on dining, including which places will carry a surcharge, are still to come, the line said.

Looks like the guess replacing the ropes course was right. And more details about the "Serenity Park." Looks like that was in fact a pool...I bet it has to be were Spice is on the other ships.

I'm really excited about the ability to do an Asia cruise with NCL, but I'm a little nervous about doing a cruise where the primary language is Mandarin. I guess I'll have to hear how it goes for other CCers and then I'll make a decision... but I'd really love to get out that way sometime!!

My guess would be that the ship will sell out very fast at first. Mostly from the Asian market. Large population and a new novelty. Win-win for NCL. May not be an opportunity for Europe or the Americas right away.

Among major Chinese mainland public holidays - forget about booking the new ship since they are eyeing the billions of would-be cruise pax - especially when bookings are going thru their partner TA's ( ... in case, you haven't read/heard/come across ticket price scalping, whether it's train, plane or HST tickets - even long distance buses - when millions are on the move, homebound & returning to the urban centers for post-holiday work duties)

Google Disney's recent grand opening admission prices @PVG (Shanghai)

It might just work for this market with all the extra bells & whistles.

Cunad has 3 QE class ships calling on Hong Kong this month (within 3 days this week, bring 17,000 pax to this SAR city, returned to China from the British colonial days in 1997) - except, that, English is the spoken langugage onboard.

Imagine feeling "ignored" by your steward or dining room staff ... "huh, no ... s/he just having difficulties understanding your (European/American, etc.) English language since they are trained in "Chinglish" Oops - "no eye see"

A bigger casino and the smoke/odor/smell will be at least twice as bad as they are now vs. the *Away class ships, or worst - or, would smoking be permitted on the entire ship - except for some non-smoke cabins and public area.

Details forthcoming will be very, very interesting to follow.

There are plenty of people who get by on NCL now speaking Spanish, Italian, Russian, etc. I am sure there will be English-speaking staff on board Norwegian Joy. The language would not be the major issue. I think people don't quite understand what it means to be on a ship full of Chinese passengers. The people in this forum have problems with chair hogs, seat savers, dress code violators, balcony/cabin smokers, line-cutters, buffet touchers/lickers, etc. They may never complain about such minor offenses ever again if they book a cruise on this ship.

+1

The build and features are worth following, maybe a short taster cruise in Europe before she sets sail to China but I too would not recommend sailing her once she's homeported! :)

Deck 14, which is the same as Breakaway and Getaway. It's a deck lower than Escape to accommodate the new public areas.

Strange...it seems more like a "Breakaway/Breakaway Plus" hybrid than just another Breakaway Plus.

I wonder what Breakaway Plus 3 & 4 will have (ducktail, bridge deck, DOS/OS forward balcony, etc.)

Things seen on Genting Dream which we probably won't get or want on Norwegian Joy or any future NCL Breakaway Plus class:

A walkway from the lifeboat deck up to the forward part of the Waterfront;

2mo2omh.png

Some of those deck 8 balconies are already exposed to other passengers in the so called greenhouse, not to mention people walking up next to your balcony railing. :)

Two spiral stairs on both sides at the aft dining room, leading down from the specialty restaurants on NCL.

Anyone got some more? Or things we do want, besides the obvious mini subs Genting will have! :D
