Recarpeting Caribbean Princess

We were just on CB for 20 days and the ship has been having a lot of new carpet, on many stairs, landings, and most of all the buffet which seriously needed it. They had Canadian workers working mostly all night and doing a good job.

Brown is the predominant color of the new carpet, swirly patterns mostly except oddly they put completely plain brown in some areas of the buffet , that may not hide stains too well.

The ship is looking better, and we just had the best cruise we ever had on this ship, food, service etc were all excellent.

Maybe because it was very port intensive the International Café was very quiet, even in the early morning few folk were getting coffee etc compared to when we were on the same ship last year in the Caribbean.

Some of the bar staff seemed to lack their sparkle though, maybe because there are no printed receipts now for drinks and therefore no extra tips possible to be added on the receipt as some passengers used to do.

No one seemed to use the Sanctuary, even though there were as many as 10 kids on board at times....................., it was a senior age group.

The Spa pool and Jacuzzis under the Sanctuary area were deserted - it was like having our own private pool and hot-tubs.

And we didn't see - or smell - anyone smoking except in the Casino, they seem to have moved the other smoking areas to someplace we don't go instead of one side of the Lido deck like it used to be. certainly unobtrusive, got to be good for most people.

I had an informative conversation with a carpet installer many years ago in Horizon Court just before the ship was heading to wet dock. He worked for a company based in the Vancouver area. The carpet is wool (naturally fireproof - have you ever seen a burning sheep?) and made by a UK company. One question I asked was couldn't any company install carpet on a ship but he said when cruise lines used other companies, they ended up wasting money and had to get it reinstalled after bad jobs.

If you are really going on CP then you will be on a different ship. Maybe just a typo?
Right. The "CP" (official Princess abbreviation) is the Sea Princess, a very different ship from the CB, Caribbean Princess; CO, Coral Princess; and KP, Crown Princess.

They installed a new carpet in our room on the CB last year during a port day. The carpeting looked good to us, but the person in charge said it was due to be changed. They asked us if it was ok to change the carpet out on that day and said it would be done by the time we returned at 4pm. When we got back everything was finished. The people installing the carpet told us they are on board and doing rooms every day for the next few cruises and a night shift doing high traffic areas, then they change ships. The company never stops he said, there's always carpet to change. We were on B2B and were watching them load the ship in FLL. There were a lot of huge rolls of carpeting being loaded that time.

I was on the same CB cruise. I saw them replacing carpet in the HC twice late at night as I passed through the HC on my way back to my stateroom. The new carpet looked nice. The cruise definitely had an older group aboard more than I have seen on our other cruises. I only saw two children both preschool age. The CB looked good and I had no problems with the bar staff. I usually do not sit at the bar but did so a few times. I met a cocktail waitress in skywalkers that was really friendly so I made it a point to order from her. Great cruise but unfortunately the trees did not have on their fall colors yet for the most part and we could not call on Bar Harbor due to the heavy seas and wind. Still it was better than sitting at home!

We just got off her today in Quebec and the new carpet looks good. There were a couple of places where they had done the installation a bit poorly in the elevators where it was pulling up but that seemed to get fixed. All in all the public areas looked to be in good shape. Clean. All the public washrooms appeared to be in service. No complaints here. I've been debating doing a full detail review / narrative of our cruise since I've never done one before.

Why?? Because dirty and worn carpets are gross and not very pleasant. I can't speak for nasa1974, but having clean, updated and attractive surroundings while on vacation makes the experience all that much better. I don't think people are saying its a deal breaker, but it is nice when the ship isn't worn and dirty.

Exactly.

Why? I never found the carpet to be important to my enjoyment of a cruise.

I disagree...I think the overall ambience of a cruise is impacted by the condition of a ship. Cruise ships take a beating, and I think an occasional stain or worn spot is to be expected. However, if the carpet and upholstery is filthy or worn all over the ship it makes the accommodations significantly less appealing to me.

Why does anyone think the carpet is dirty, gross and worn out? Isn't this a thread about how they are recarpeting now? Do you think they are replacing the dirty, gross and worn out carpet with different dirty, gross and worn out carpet?

When they replaced the carpet in our room while on a cruise, I was surprised because as far as I was concerned it was in good shape. The princess rep that was arranging it to be done while we were in port and off the ship told me that the carpet was do to be replaced. They replace it on a schedule, they don't wait till it is worn out. If it gets damaged before its time then they will replace it she said. I also asked her about the beds and she said the same applies. The mattresses are suppose to last a certain length of time and they are replaced on a schedule.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't. I was just commenting on your remark that the condition of the carpet doesn't affect your enjoyment of a cruise.
