Oasis on Port Days

How crowded is Oasis on port days? Wondering if it may be more fun to stay on board vs tour islands we have already been to several times... I know there is always more to see, but weighing this option, and curious if it others have done this and found it worthwhile due to fewer folks on board.

It is definitely much easier to find a lounger around the pool on port days.

We stayed on board Allure in Nassau once and had a great day. It was our 30th anniversary. We got a good deal on a spa treatment, and an early dinner at Chops. I remember the day well Osama Bin Laden was getting special treatment that day. I think he ended up with a seaweed wrap.

I may watch for your review/report when you get back. I may do another photodocumentary on Chair hogs the last 2 days of my upcoming cruise. Hey, its one way I enjoy my last two days of the Eastern Itinerary! :D I may have to post it on a website and just link here. My last Chair hog thread got deleted.

One of the best features of Oasis type ships is the huge solarium for adults. We've always found chairs although it can get crowded. There is an upstairs area around the bar also. Only an issue on sea days, it's fairly empty on port days.

We don't use the 4 main pools but there seems to be plenty of loungers either on pool deck or just above it.

I actually sometimes book an itinerary based on a port day that I will stay on ship. In my case, this is Jamaica. I haven't experienced it yet on Oasis, but other cruises it's a nice break from the crowds on sea days. I think in some ways I'm more excited about staying on board while the majority of people go ashore. Also, you can tell by looking at the webcam on port days just how much less people are on board. :-)

I stayed on the Oasis for two ports on our last cruise. The ship was quiet and there was no problem with finding a place by the pool. I especially like the Solarium and even when we are on a sea day, I have never not found a chair. If you look on the far sides of the Solarium, you will usually find empty chairs right by the window.

I plan on laying by the pool everyday except for St. Maarten. I will report back in a week. I'm usually up before dawn so I expect finding a lounger won't be a problem.

See you there. We are also boarding the OA Saturday and only getting off the ship in St. Maarten:D That's 2 chairs full

I also get up very early on vacation (land or ship). What always amuses me is come about 11am you see a woman walking around the decks with big straw hat, holding her sunglasses and chivvying her husband along . He is usually about 2ft behind her carrying all the books/towels/bags etc and she is always dismayed and surprised that she cannot find 2 seats together in the prime spots!!

Back on topic - I dont think I could stay on board because I like to do something different each day (even if I only get off for 2 hours), but I could certainly see the attraction in making the most of a quiet ship.

We love to help escort people off the ship on port days..."hurry now, move quickly and have a wonderful day"...then we head to the beach pool and easily find chairs with an umbrella. Love staying on the ship on port days!

Love my beach pool.
