The Little Things

Yes, the more typical ones...

...the first scan of your S&S as you step on the ship.

...first DOD

...etc

My favorite ..... being on deck late at night and watching another ship in the distance all lit up and thinking "Wow...that is beautiful..."..."oh wow...that is what our ship looks like".

Wow you nailed so many... how about...

15. That first glimpse of the ship

16. Your first step onboard

When driving to the port and you catch sight of the whale tail is always a sight to cause excitement.

I know I'm really on vacation once my feet hit the deck and I scream VACATION!

Those are ALL wonderful and we all have others we could add, like the servers on the pool deck trying to get your business for the whole cruise, or meeting the cabin steward. This a great post, and it is wonderfully refreshing because each of the things we list as a "little thing" that reminds us where we are and how much fun we can have, I have seen nearly everyone as a complaint in other posts. How sad is that?

Thanks for your post, and I agree with every on of the little things you and the others have listed!

Only complaint I have is they make me leave the ship when we get back to home port. :)

1002. Hearing the ding dong signifying the CD is about to make the first announcement.

This is a great one! I often think of the CD announcements as annoying at times, LOL! but that FIRST time you hear it on board.... yeah.... it's great! You are officially ON YOUR CRUISE! :D

Reading the fun notes I write to myself and whoever I am cruising with when I order Bon Voyage items weeks before the cruise - like "you are awesome and you are going to have an awesome cruise" - silly but fun. And every thing I order from BV gets a note like that attached to it and is waiting for me when I get to the room!

My contributions:

Having my hubby all to myself for a whole vacation.

Turning off cell phones and no calls, texts, or internet.

Spending the night in a hotel precruise, and all the day before excitement.

The very first lunch onboard, taking a deep breath and really relaxing.

Enjoying the feeling of shorts and flipflops, and painted toenails!

Laying in bed at night with a glass of wine and flipping channels on the tv.

Knowing that, Lord willing, this will all happen again, next cruise.

not worrying about what the fam wants to eat..they can get whatever wherever on the ship!

not cleaning a single thing

thinking about what FUN thing I'll do next

being somewhere besides WORK

When you walk up to the boat for the first time and how little you feel next to it.

I agree about the videos....I'd like to see a collaboration with babycat and carnival! Your videos really seem to capture "the little things" great work!

Oh my gosh, all of these are making me so excited!

I've been on many cruises - started when I was 10.

I'm taking my boys, 6 and 8 on their first cruise, and hubby and I have decided not to tell the kids. They know we are going on vacation, but they don't know where or how. I'm so excited to see their reactions to all the things you guys have mentioned.

Cruiecritic REALLY needs a like button for this thread! How refreshing! I LOVE almost every aspect of cruising but I love the first day with newbie! Cannot wait for my friends to learn to love it in a little over 100 days!!!! I also love to see the ships parked next to each other in ports and comparing them.

But the way I know I am on a cruise is after all the hustle of getting everyone settled and walking out of my cabin with a nonset destination but to do anything I want and when I want. Oh! And the thrill of the first afternoon in the casino with the promise of possibly winning! Lol!

I love it when the Captain makes an announcement and afterwards all of those sitting near one another try to figure out what he said due to his heavy accent.

lol yeah, and when the comedian that night makes fun of it and asks if anyone understood what the captain said. (forget which comedian that was, but it was hilarious):D

1001a :) Hearing our friends (first time cruisers) asking us on the last day of the cruise:" Can we book another cruise on board, right now, before we leave? ":D:D

I'm taking my kids on their first cruise. I think I'm more excited about seeing the cruise through their 'virgin' eyes than the cruise itself. Ok, maybe not. But I am excited to see the cruise through young eyes.

THE NEIGHBORS THAT LET THE BALCONY DOORS SLAM!!!

Ohhhh were talking the peaceful things! !??

I for love one that first horn blow and the subsequent one to let us know we are in international waters and the trip in underway

Along with many of the previous things on the list

Love this thread and there are so many things....

1) hearing the room service knock first thing in the morning with my carafe of coffee and pastries for the balcony to watch the sun rise!

2) going back to the cabin after dinner and trying to guess which towel animal will greet us when we open the door!

3) watching the pilot boat pull up closer to the ship and the pilot officer jumping on board!

4) That first glimpse of a far away island coming into view and the excitement/anticipation of the day ahead

5) unpacking that 1st day knowing that someone is going to drive me around for the next 7 or 8 days and I can truly relax!

6) exploring the ship that 1st day and finding all the nooks and crannies that I read about here on the boards....

What a great thread!

I will add room service tea to wake me in the morning.

Sitting on balcony with said tea

....and love the "horn challenges" when ships meet in port!!

I do think the best thing of all is the "ding" of your card when you return from another amazing day on a beach.

You really get a sense of the scale of the ship when you stand next to the whale tail. Huge!

Thank you for the compliment 😊
