SakeDad Posted January 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2016 On the Crown (and others) is the bow promenade open during sailing? Can you walk and watch the seas as you cut through them or do they block access at sea? Looks like it could be a great vantage point if they let you watch from there. It's usually open except when weather or sea conditions cause them to block access.
Colo Cruiser Posted January 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2016 (edited) Its (stairs) are only locked off from sunset to sunrise. Or high winds etc. Edited January 17, 2016 by Colo Cruiser
paul929207 Posted January 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2016 At the front of the ship, the walking path goes up and deck then comes back down. As I recall it was 22 steps up and down. Some people turn around rather than take the stairs.
XBGuy Posted January 18, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2016 Short answer to the OP is, "Yes, you can walk around the bow portion of the Promenade Deck on sea days." My add is that it is pretty cool. As others have mentioned that is providing conditions are safe. So, if you are in high seas or high winds, it may be blocked off at the steps. Also, the steps are blocked at night. A couple years ago I was on an Alaska cruise on, I believe, the Grand on which the promenade deck also goes around the bow. Every day there was a group of people with some pretty sophisticated gear--tripod-mounted cameras and binoculars--stationed at the very point of the bow watching for wild life. They saw plenty. jean s Posted January 18, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2016 I love this area of the promenade deck. I spend a lot of time here just enjoying the view. Sadly the new builds eliminated this spot so I won't sail on them.

AKman2495 Posted January 18, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2016 The Coral has a wrap around promenade deck (I mean you can walk continuously around the ship on it) but it is not open at the bow. Rather, it cuts through a corridor. That said, it is a great walk!

My advice is:hold on to your hat at the bow.
