Its a one off year long event/campaign that while deserves praise for helping those through tough times is also marketing gimmick expertly timed after RCL's conservation project. I appreciate Carnival's efforts to improve its image and help others but it also I have no clue who Ms underwood is and I am quite the British pacifist anyway.

Its not the a charity announcement isn't amazing either...I thought the Fathom announcement was wonderful.

I really hope Carnival's project goes well for those involved but it really isn't interesting. Sorry if I have offended any patriotic folk by saying snoozefest haphazardly but just saying how I see it.

I know Carrie Underwood well although I'm not a big fan of her genre of music. I watched her win on American Idol! lol. In any case, I do hope it goes well. I have no idea about RCI is doing. Good for their work in charity as well.

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE, OPERATION HOMEFRONT, AND SEVEN-TIME GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING SUPERSTAR CARRIE UNDERWOOD LAUNCH HONOR. FAMILY. FUN. INITIATIVE TO SUPPORT MILITARY FAMILIES

Underwood to treat military families to private concert pierside aboard Carnival’s Newest and

Most Family-Friendly Ship, Carnival Vista, at Port of New York in November 2016

Campaign will raise funds for Operation Homefront and highlight personal stories of military families

JACKSONVILLE, FLA (January 28, 2016) - Today, Carnival Cruise Line announced a new initiative designed to support U.S. military families alongside seven-time GRAMMY-award winning superstar Carrie Underwood and representatives of Operation Homefront, the national nonprofit that builds strong, stable, and secure military families. The year-long Honor. Family. Fun. program will help raise funds for Operation Homefront and culminate in a special private pierside concert for service men and women and their families starring Underwood aboard Carnival’s newest and most family-friendly ship, the Carnival Vista, when the vessel makes its U.S. debut in New York City at the Port of New York on November 4, 2016.

“Military families represent a cornerstone of our country and we are honored by the opportunity to partner with Carrie and Operation Homefront to bring much needed awareness and aid to our troops and their loved ones,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “The partnership will bring to life many of the heartwarming stories our troops have to share while in turn bringing them some fun along the way.”

In 10 cities along the course of Carrie Underwood’s The Storyteller Tour, which kicks off in Jacksonville, Fla on January 30, select military families, chosen in partnership with Operation Homefront, will be treated to a personal meet-and-greet with Underwood before her concerts. A video series highlighting the meet and greets and the families’ individual stories will be featured on carnival.com.

“I’m honored to be able to join Carnival Cruise Line and Operation Homefront to lift up these soldiers and their families,” said Underwood. “I am really looking forward to meeting them on my tour and for the opportunity to personally thank them for all they do for our freedom.”

Driving the effort to raise funds for the cause, fans of Underwood, and of the program, will have the opportunity to donate by clicking on the “Donate Now” button on carnival.com/HonorFamilyFun. Commemorative dog tags will also be available for purchase at merchandise stands at all Storyteller Tour stops as well as on board the fleet of Carnival ships with all proceeds going to Operation Homefront.

“Carnival Cruise Line really knows what it means to support our men and women in uniform and their families,” said retired Brigadier General John I. Pray, Jr., president and CEO of Operation Homefront. “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the Carnival team and superstar Carrie Underwood to focus on the challenges our military families face as they work tirelessly to protect the freedoms we enjoy daily.”

The final stop in the cross-country Honor. Family. Fun. campaign will be New York City, where Carnival, Operation Homefront, and Underwood will treat hundreds of military families to a special concert aboard the new Carnival Vista at the Port of New York on November 4, 2016.

Carnival’s most family-friendly ship, Carnival Vista, will set sail in Europe in May 2016 and make her stateside debut as host of the special private pierside concert for military families. Designed to connect guests to the ocean with sweeping views and plenty to do both outdoors and in, Carnival Vista will take cruising to new heights and introduce an exciting array of groundbreaking new features including: SkyRide, a breakthrough suspended open-air cycling experience; the world’s first IMAX® Theatre on a ship; an expansive water park featuring the colorful Kaleid-O-Slide, the line’s first raft-riding water tube slide; Seafood Shack, a delectable New England-inspired eatery; RedFrog Pub, including the first micro-brewery on a U.S.-based cruise ship, and other exciting dining, bar and entertainment options.

In the coming weeks, Carnival will launch a new shipboard military appreciation program. Each ship will host a special event on board to recognize active and retired military personnel and their families and will kick off with a welcome video featuring Carrie Underwood.

Finally, it was also revealed that Carrie Underwood will join the Carnival LIVE! roster of artists in early 2017 with further details to be announced at a later date.

It's not a one-off event first of all.

Second, the Vista already announced its homeport and bookings are available until April, 2018. I don't know why anyone would think this had anything to do with something other than entertainment or onboard activities.

Third, and this is just my opinion, anytime a company makes the effort to recognize military families in a special way, it is a good thing. They deserve that and much more for the sacrifices they make. So while this has zero impact on me, I hope it goes well and happy that Carnival is doing this - even if it gives them publicity.

Great Post!

Carrie Underwood is a super-famous country singer who along with being the first American Idol winner also sang the opening theme song to NBC's Sunday Night Football.

Everything she does brings lots of press coverage and will help keep this worthwhile project in the news cycle forefront. Good choice by CCL.

Thank you to all that served !!!!

Being a native Jacksonvillian, I'm happy to see that Carnival chose our town to make this announcement, and good news it is. I suppose they chose Jacksonville (besides the fact Carry Underwood is kicking off the tour here), is because we have such a huge military presence. The sad thing about it is that because of the timing of the announcement, they said there was not enough time to honor a local military family. I'm sure if they'd called NAS Jacksonville or Mayport Station, they would have been able to give them a number of families to choose from in record time! Also sorry they didn't choose to make the announcement from the JaxPort Terminal, maybe then they'd realize we really do need a new one and work harder to make that happen here with the local polititions and the Town of Mayport. Until the terminal can be moved to the east side of the Dames Point Bridge, we'll never have larger ships.

Any guesses as to how this will affect the passengers getting off the ship that day? Do I need to book a later flight?

I am thinking it will have more impact on the people trying to board for the next cruise.

Sorry, just realised I get back on the 3rd.

She also did a fantastic job in NBCs Sound of Music Live!

I totally agree with your post. She won Season 4 though. Lol.

Carrie Underwood is an excellent choice for this project. She's done other work with military families.

Let me preface this by stating that I am a Vietnam veteran so this is a veteran's opinion.

I would be far more impressed if Carnival were contributing to this very worthy cause from their massive profits rather than just encouraging donations in a high-profile marketing campaign.

Completely agree.

If Carrie Underwood is a country singer it explains why she isn't heard of over here. Even our own X factor winners sink into obscurity a few years on.

Like everyone else, they can't contribute to each and every cause.

They walk the walk with their work for, and contributions to, St. Jude's.

True. But they did donate 100k to military causes last year per John Heald. Drop in the bucket but this is just one of many efforts Carnival supports.

You didn't offend me. I've been waiting for years for organizations such as Carnival and others to recognize Viet Nam vets. Many are still suffering from the after effects of Agent Orange. :(

Kelly Clarkson won the first season, but love Carrie Underwood as a choice for this event. With my boyfriend being retired military I think this is really awesome they are recognizing our military personnel and veterans. He will be glad to hear this and we back any company who is involved in supporting our military. Good for you Carnival.

Maybe this will help bring public awareness to the sacrifices that military families make so that their loved one may serve the country.

Carnival is a family cruise line and chose to focus on military families.
