Right?

When I first looked at them I thought, that one's for Laurie, that one's for Anita, that one's for Laurie....

I catch myself doing that sometimes when I shop too.

Hmmm; I admit that this post gave me a frown face. Mentally sticks up hand and waves wildly in the air... Me...Me...Me... TOO! But, it is what it is... in looking at those lovely Pantone colors, I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of them with cool undertones, but I'm absolutely positive that there's NOTHING in those swatches that would be bright enough for me. Debbie would have an easier time, being that she's a FIRE that gets to wear a softer color palette (she looks extraordinary in a soft peach)... and Kim can get away with softer colors as well... and not so much for yours truly talking right here. I think that there's a shot at the brown and maybe a chance with the green and... I think that's about it for me. Brown and green. Does anyone have a problem mixing those two colors? Every time I do, it makes me feel weird... it's so not appealing to me, for some undefined reason. It's like I could never mix black and yellow because of the whole bumblebee thoughts... and brown and green does something along the same lines. It's been and continues to be... quite a struggle. But that being said, I would love to get some basics in that dark, rich fudge brown color. The best brown I ever had was one from Chico's years ago.... chocolate chip. It was a deep, rich brown that looked almost black. And that comment did bring to mind the ivory color as well; I think I could use that as a neutral white-ish base (you know for all those white nights on cruises). I was reading a bit in the Cunard section of this forum and I stumbled onto comments about their Black and White Ball Evening. Those commenters were so opinionated about the appropriateness of wearing BLACK or WHITE and ONLY those colors that it really made me think that Cunard isn't a good fit for me, at all. Someone had the apparent lack of taste to wear RED to the Black and White Ball. OMG. She responded back that she didn't think Mr. Armani minded that she wore her red dress that evening because the black Oleg Cassini in the stateroom just didn't appeal that night. Made me laugh.

And, that's my stream-of-consciousness posting about Margaret's comment!

Pam, my first thought when I quickly scrolled through was that it wasn't just an autumn palette, it was an AUTUMN palette for the most part. It doesn't always happen that way. I agree with you that there aren't any good FIRE brights. There are some that read ICE to me, and because I straddle seasons I can look good in some of the jewel tones if they don't veer toward cool.

The way you feel now is how I feel when the spring colors come out. There's usually nothing for us EARTH girls in the spring collections. I think Laurie has some extra talent for spotting spring/summer looks that are good for EARTH.

Here's my rundown on the Autumn/Winter Color Palette (based on how they look on my computer, though everyone knows that colors appear different with different monitor settings). I hope Anita has time to chime in eventually with her wise words.

Chili Pepper - I can handle a true red, but not a red with blue or pink tones. I look forward to seeing this IRL. Our stores will start stocking for fall in August, so I'll be able to see then what this is. I have a big gap in my wardrobe now where red is concerned. With a nice red top and a red lipstick, I'm good to go anywhere.

Biking Red - I'm on the fence about this one because I can't wear a purple that tends toward burgundy. If it's just a very dark EARTH purple it might work. I think Laurie will be the expert on this color because she looks so good in purple.

Creme de Peche - I think this is squarely ICE.

Peach Pink - This might work depending on whether the muted-ness comes from gray or brown. We shall see. The description says warm, so we'll keep it on the back burner.

Rocky Road - I'm with Pam on liking a very dark brown; I use it as an alternative to black. It's more versatile in my wardrobe than a chocolate brown. This is the color I would pair with green, especially a kelly green. For me, green is like blue in that I can push the boundaries of those colors because of my coloring, as long as they are not too pale or too cool.

Fruit Dove - I don't know what this is, but for me it's a no. Just no. No pink for me of any kind.

Sugar Almond - I love this color. I treat this color as a neutral for bottoms the summer, along with taupe/mushroom.  My favorite winter coat ever was in this color, a kind of caramel. I can't wait to see what's out there.

Dark Cheddar - I'm on the fence with this one, mostly because I'm not a fan of orange, and most people don't understand how to wear it well. It's a kind of mid-range shade that lacks commitment, IMO. Maybe as a handbag? Sneakers? I'm curious what you all think about this color.

Galaxy Blue - definitely Melody's color 🙂

Bluestone - depending on the website I look at, this is either light cool blue or light denim blue, not sure which. If it is at all in the denim blue family, it might work for me. Just can't tell. Not EARTH though.

Orange Tiger - this just reminds me too much of a traffic cone.

Eden - because this is a dark green, it's a maybe for me, but not EARTH imo. What does Melody think? I almost think this is a dark version of an AIR color.

Autumn/Winter Core Shades:

Vanilla Custard - Perhaps, but difficult to wear in NY in the winter.

Evening Blue - blue ❤️ , hopefully a nicer alternative to navy for basics.

Paloma - Like pink, gray of any kind is a no-no for me.

Guacamole - This is the color that made me think Anita. I love this color in prints for myself, but a giant solid of it maybe not so much.

Pam, I've been surfing for info on the Cunard board, too, for a future TA. I like all the enrichment they have onboard. The clothing discussions tend to be very judgy IMO. We like to dress up and I think a B&W ball would be so fun. It would be sad to me if an ocean liner like that became like all the others, with everyone in cargo shorts and tshirts for dinner.

My dance company once performed as the entertainment for a Russian White Ball. My costume was a white brocade dress with a red rose crown and red shoes, and my partner was in white with a royal blue sash. We opened the evening by joining one of the sets for a dance before the show, and we were the only color in the room. It was fabulous!!!!

I'm sure if we wore Vanilla Custard to the B&W there could be no objections. 🙂

I have looked at Cunard several times . It would be great to sail home from Europe after a TA but they are just too formal for us . They need to have a Cunard light . Laurie would be in heaven on their ships .She really enjoys formal nights  I do like to read the comments where they look down on people . I just laugh and know that is not my ship.

Margaret, I’d wear the Eden as well as the Galaxy Blue, possibly Chili Pepper if it isn’t too orange. I need a red with a blue undertone

Pam, too funny. I still have a Chico’s Travelers 3 piece suit in, TA da, Chocolate Chip. It’s the only brown in my closet

I’ve done several Black & White Balls. Someone made the horrendous mistake of wearing Loubotuin (sp) shoes. No one said anything to her (she was the 4star general’s wife!).   Melody

Some of those colors...❤❤❤  I can't wait to see if there are any clothes out this fall in those shades. It was hard for me to pick a favorite, but my eyes always go right for the reds and oranges.  The brown was interesting.  On my phone at least, it seemed almost black so that might not work for me.

With the variety of dresses on formal night, I'm flip flopping a lot.  I'm driving to the port and it is 6 nights, so I might toss in something long and see what happens.

With those dresses, the brown would get a lot of use if it fits right.  They didnt have my usual size, so I went down a size.  It's so hard to tell with clothes these days.  I have dresses in size 6, 8 and 10 in my closet.

The floral dress I could wear on a cruise, to a casual wedding or even to dinner depending on the place.  I am thinking of a restaurant we went to not long ago, and I would definitely wear it there.

Pam, I love when you join us to chat.  I have trouble seeing you in earthy colors.  You need those brights!

IDK if I have "wise words" to chime in with...LOL.

I do find all the color reports very interesting. Anyone else love The Devil Wears Prada? I so enjoy watching Meryl Streep...OMG...the blue sweater scene is what I'm talking about here...I found a clip with no ad in the beginning:

The greatest difficulty for those of us that aren't able to see NYC Fashion IRL is to gain an understanding of the colors on the runway that Pantone studied to come up with their fashion color trend report. It's handy...better than nothing...but still frustrating because essentially, Pantone is taking what is generally a range of color and finding the representative color for different ranges. The ranges still exist though IRL and so what we will see in the stores shouldn't match the Pantone colors...but be IN THE FAMILY of the Pantone representative color.

Our study is further frustrated by monitors and the way that color is represented. I found this very sweet webpage...I think I might bookmark it...each color is given a corresponding HEX code...which is the programming identification for the representation of any color so that we see a specific color on a webpage:

https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_trends.asp

Back in the day...OMG over 18 years ago now...there used to exist a color palette that were said to be consistent across all platforms and monitors etc. I don't recall the name given for this palette, but it was something that could be relied upon...use one of these colors and everyone should see the same color. I don't think these colors will fall into that palette and so we should all still see a variation of the color based on our monitor...still...kind of nice to see the color from the programming world, instead of a picture of a fabric swatch. Makes you realize how the light shining on the fabric, etc., can affect the color of the fabric...

What I am seeing is that this is shaping up to be the coolest set of autumn colors we've seen in a long time. Generally speaking, the world categorizes red, orange, and yellow as warm colors...blue, green, and purple are cool colors. Every red will be referred to as "warm"...even if it is what we all think of as a "cool red"...we'll read something like...this year's red is a warm, inviting red with a slight blue undertone. Yeah...warm and inviting. OK.

In the link with the code color blocks...you can't get the vibrant colors in code. The only vibrant colors in code are the true colors of the base...Red, Green, and Blue...and the even absence and presence of color...Black and White. Because everything else is a mix...it will all look muted. Which just goes to show you that you can't rely on the code to represent the color either...maybe I should just delete all this then?...Hmmm...

I found this report which I thought was really interesting to see...some of the actual NYC fashion week fashions that may have inspired the choices:

https://fashionunited.uk/news/fashion/spotted-on-the-catwalk-key-fashion-colors-at-new-york-fashion-week-aw19/2019021841642

Seeing the fashion week photos kind of solidifies to me that the reds are really looking more cool than warm...but there may be a few exceptions out there. All the colors may have exceptions out there for everyone to have a chance to wear all the colors...

In the link that Margaret last showed...where the colors were spotted on the red carpets of the world...Connie Britton is given as one example of Guacamole:

connie-britton-critics-choice-2019.jpg

Looks great...not exactly what I picture when I see the swatch...I picture something more like:

74818-768.jpg

And yet, the same article that shows the above dress...also show this one for Guacamole:

74818-764.jpg

https://www.herworld.com/shopping/picks/pantone-colour-new-living-coral-guacamole-fall-winter-2019?slide=1

Which just goes to show...that the color trend is a simplification of what colors will be out there. Now whether or not these shade of Guacamole are actually different temperatures and clarity IRL is the big question...

This article has great descriptions of the colors...and you can blow up the color swatches when you View the Gallery through the link:

https://wwd.com/fashion-news/designer-luxury/pantone-fall-winter-color-trends-play-up-individuality-with-instagrammable-shades-1202999798/

Some of that hot pink...there's a version of that that looks great on Mom. Hopefully that will make an appearance.

I also like how the article talks about accessories...like Orange Tiger is talked about as more of an accessory color than anything else...which is what you said Margaret.

One article is making mention of the idea of not being so matched...and I find that I have been really happy wearing outfits where I have so many different shades of similar colors. When all my clothes fit me...I liked wearing a pair of brick/rust red pants with one of my wine colored tanks and a burgundy cardigan sweater...and sometimes I'd grab a scarf with that range of colors too...very fun to play with. And that's the kind of thing that I think the color trend is trying to portray...this idea that you can be wearing colors of a range together and not worry so much about them matching. So we get one red on one end and a purple red on the other end and we can expect to see the range of color in the stores.

I don't particularly like brown and green together. So often, I find that my browns and greens are of the same darkness...intensity?...IDK...they are so close in whatever that is that the just don't go...they are so similar...and yet...not the same...that it looks awful. Like I couldn't match well or something...it doesn't look like a purposeful pairing. I need a lighter green with a darker brown. I don't particularly like light brown...some tan colors are OK...so the medium and darker greens are ok with tan.

I always shop with everyone here. Everyone here is totally linked with clothing and fashion in my mind...but I don't go shopping much anymore. That would be a fun exercise...what if everyone went to their nearest mall for the day...and you didn't look for something for yourself. What if you went looking for someone else? Ok...the mall would be too big...what if we picked a department store or two...and we all tried to find a great *fill in the blank* for someone else?

Mark and I still laugh about that scene from TDWP about cerulean. Still, I think that was his first fashion awakening. Since he mostly wears navy and khaki, it never occurred to him that colors could be "in" or "out."

So, all this Pantone talk got me curious about what they were saying last year:

https://www.fashiontrendsetter.com/v2/2018/02/11/pantone-fashion-color-trend-report-nyfw-fall-winter-2018/

In comparison I think there are more wearable colors this fall than last, at least for me. And I honestly did not see one single person dressed in lilac for fall or winter here. It must happen somewhere, but I think the big northern cities of the world would skip that one entirely.

As for guacamole, my impression was more in line with Anita's than with the lime green dress or the fern green dress she posted.

More to say, but dinner just arrived!

Now that I am on my laptop, I looked at the samples along with the outfits that they say correspond.  Questionable.  But if I'm going by the sample, the brown is a good brown after all.  I'm all over many of these colors.

The peach pink or whatever it was called would make a nice neutral if you go by the sample outfits.  That would be a good alternative to ivory.  The more color it has, the better.  At least for me.  And it is so hard to find neutrals.  I can find these nice earth sweaters or sometimes jackets for work, but I can't find shirts to wear with them.

I drooled over biking red.  And chili pepper. And guacamole and...

Wait, Margaret, did you say traffic cone for orange tiger???  OMG.  I love orange, but I couldn't tell exactly what it was.

I own pants in sugar almond!  That is a beautiful rusty tone.

I would wear dark cheddar, but I agree it has to be worn a certain way.  I envision it in a wispy kind of top, styled like a loose camisole and worn with neutral shorts and blingy sandals.  I don't know why, but that is how I see it.

I hope your wasp sting is doing better!

Melody, how is Les' mouth doing?  I agree that the flossing needs to wait!

The funny thing about the colors is that I do not migrate towards blue at all, unless it is teal.  The dress I wore for the wedding looked like a navy when I ordered it but I felt like it was something I could wear and enjoy, and also wear again.  It has purplish undertones so it looked different when it came in.  I really do love it.

Hi All!

I finally had the visit with the specialist.  I now know the plan of action, and it is a good one.

On the 22nd, which is a Monday, I will go in for one day surgery.  They will remove the stent that is currently in the ureter.  They will then use a camera to guide them so that they break up the stone that is causing the blockage internally.  They will then go into the kidney to find the other stone and break that one up as well.  A new stent will be added which is smaller and won't bother me as much.

I will need to go home and rest that day, as well as the next.  If I feel up to it, I can return to work on Wednesday.  On Friday, they remove the new stent.  He said I will literally feel like my old self by Monday.

That is great news, as I leave for vacation a week from the day the remove the stent!  He was so thorough and explained so much to me, such as how big the current stent is.  (it's really long!!)  he also drew out for me a picture to show me where the stone is currently.  It is sitting just above the stent in the ureter tube.  When they put the stent in, they actually moved the stone up a bit so that it was in opening more, which is wider.  That was essentially for pain control.  The reason they couldn't break up the stone when they put in the stent was that it was too risky with the infection I had going on.

Today, because I'm a nosy kind of person, I opened the disk that I was given for the doctor (he got the full report and CT results from Boston already) and took a look at the picture.  The human body is fascinating.  I'm not certain, but I think that circle is to show the stone?

Anyway, I'm excited to be having this taken care of so that I can feel like my old self again.

I wanted to take this weekend to do some things, but not necessarily anything too physical.  I am overdue to pick my cruise wardrobe, so that is what I did!  The hard thing is not being sure about the weather.  I know my daytime attire might need to be adjusted, but I started with tops and shorts, and then chose a pair of ankle jeans, cargo joggers and cropped jeans that I could swap with the shorts if it was cooler.  Once we get closer, I can watch the anticipated forecast and see how to adjust accordingly.  We are driving to port so I'm not overly concerned about the amount or weight of luggage.  Honestly, I never worry about that...I just bring what I want!!

I am going to post some pictures from my phone shortly with brief comments.  I'm not a fan of the tiny keyboard so I wanted to add them with just a few sentences here and there.  I would love to get everyone's thoughts.  While not 100% mix and match, I can change around a lot of things should I desire to do so.

With my dresses for dinner, I am not making adjustments for weather since I dress according the temp inside the ship.  I'm never cold in the dining room, but I will figure out what to bring in the event that evenings are cool onboard after dinner.  In the past, I utilized things like a daytime shirt with cropped pants.  I haven't really looked at that yet but if I am already bringing some denim crops and what not, I may not need to add anything.  It all depends on the overall forecast and what I need for daytime.

I've been thinking long and hard about formal nights.  Here is where I am at: I am bringing one long dress for the first night.  It is jersey, and I will keep the jewelry toned down so that I don't worry about being over the top.  For the second night, I will wear the dress I wore for the wedding or another one, depending.  So that means bringing one extra dress.

With the other nights, and even my daytime outfits, I got to thinking how I tend to bloat after medical procedures.  I have had very little done, other than a few colonoscopies and my recent hospital stay.  But I retain water and sorry if this is an overshare - I have trouble with going to the bathroom.  They said it has to do with the drugs they use to put you to sleep.

In any event, comfort is very important.  I do not relish the idea of wearing a shaper, but I happen to have two smoothers, which are nothing more than a high undergarment that keeps me from having a bunch of lines showing.  They are not snug or tight in the least.  I just like them under the jersey items because jersey shows everything, you know?  But I am focused on not wanting to fuss a bunch.

I also like the idea of having my husband feel comfortable too.  He loves wearing his suit, there is no issues there.  I just want us both to feel relaxed and to enjoy ourselves.  My attitude towards this cruise is different.  It feels like a celebration of sorts - getting my health back, the wonderful wedding, and the upcoming birth of my first grandchild.   The whole health thing though...I can't even begin to tell you how much it has me thinking, and how weepy it makes me sometimes.  I'm grateful for so much.

I do not wish to sound dramatic, but I can't help but to feel that my mental state affected me physically to a degree.  I've been under a great deal of stress at work.  While I know I am not going anywhere,  I do realize I need to make some changes in my approach.  It's a long story, but things aren't good there right now and I've been under a lot of pressure because I'm "the only person they can count on."  That will change.

Laurie,

We've been talking on this thread for such a long time, what's a bit of overshare, right? So, that being said... here's a tip. I don't know if you mean that you have difficulty with elimination after a procedure for <ahem> both of our activities in the water closet, but in the event that you're really having some difficulty with.... well, let's call it poop.... I highly recommend the herbal tea called Smooth Move.

Seriously. I have what I just call "traveler's tummy" at times, especially when I travel (hence the name). A cup of Smooth Move in the evening and you will be amazed at <ahem> the relief it provides in the morning. Again... seriously. I usually travel with a tea bag as just one of those things that can make a trip more enjoyable! LOL.

And now that I've shared the most important thought I had when reading your posts! I'm glad that you're feeling so much better that you're thinking about your wardrobe for your cruise!

Those weren't very good pictures, lol.

Evening dresses.  I need 4, so I got out all I was considering. The oli w green shorter one needs to be taken in at the shoulders and I dont think I have time so that may need to be eliminated.

While I have a lot of thoughts, I would love to see which 4 you all would pick!  It's always fun.

Just a note: the short dress on the far right is a dark chocolate brown.  Two maxi dresses are olive green. The one with rivets is better for a soft autumn.

I’m cooking dinner right now...so not enough time to comment on the dresses but as for the tea...the box looks like this:

https://images.app.goo.gl/uLWtoFTCAqUV3PWa7

Most grocery stores carry this brand now. Even WalMart or Target. I happen to like the taste...it has an anise taste...a bit like black licorice. My MIL hated the taste...which is why I think the new flavors have come out. Peppermint and Camomile. Haven’t tried those because I like the original.

Drink before bed. When you wake up, it won’t be uncontrollable but you will definitely feel a normal urge and you may be surprised at how effective the tea is.

Back to cooking. Fun seeing your clothes...I’m kind of sick of looking at mine LOL. I’ll look more later.
