Random Haven Questions - Getaway

Recommended Posts

I know there have been a lot of Haven questions posted lately but I haven't been able to find answers to the following:

1 - Can you use your own coffee in the coffee/espresso machine in your suite?

2 - What is the Haven lounge? Is it just a bar? Is food served?

3 - If we order regular room service, are we still charged the 7.95 convenience fee?

4 - I have read a bunch on tipping the butler and concierge, but how does tipping in the Haven restaurant and lounge work? Do you tip at each meal or at the end of the cruise? Is there a slip you sign, like in the specialties or do you leave cash? Do you tip the person who escorts you to your room on embarkation day?

5 - Is there an email to use for pre-cruise requests? I would like to have the mini bars emptied.

6 - Is there a Haven gym? I have read conflicting info on this.

7 - Are the king beds able to be split into 2 twins?

8 - For suites in the courtyard - do you prefer deck 15 or 16 and why?

Thanks for any responses! This board is so helpful!

I know there have been a lot of Haven questions posted lately but I haven't been able to find answers to the following:

1 - Can you use your own coffee in the coffee/espresso machine in your suite?

No. They take a specific type of pod. Your butler will keep you stocked.

2 - What is the Haven lounge? Is it just a bar? Is food served?

3 - If we order regular room service, are we still charged the 7.95 convenience fee?

No charge for Haven guests. Contact your butler to order.

Just so you know, all Haven staff with the exception of the concierge and butlers are covered by service charge pools so there is no obligation to tip. However, service is beyond excellent and you may want to tip in addition to the service charges. Some prefer to tip at each meal and some at the end of the cruise. I usually tip in cash toward the end. Usually you will see the same staff in the Haven throughout the cruise, not like the main dining room where you see different waiters each day. I never had a slip to sign in the Haven, except for the 1st day when they had to charge local sales tax on drinks.

No need to tip the escort on embarkation day. I'm not sure what others experience has been, but I have never received an escort to my room. Usually, after checking in at the Haven area, there is a group escort to the Haven lounge where you meet the concierge. Rooms may not be ready, depending on what time you check in, but there is seating in the lounge area and they are usually bringing sliders, etc around.

5 - Is there an email to use for pre-cruise requests? I would like to have the mini bars emptied.

6 - Is there a Haven gym? I have read conflicting info on this.

I have never seen a gym in the Haven. There is a sauna room.

7 - Are the king beds able to be split into 2 twins?

No. None of the beds can be split.

8 - For suites in the courtyard - do you prefer deck 15 or 16 and why?

Did you say this was the Getaway? If so, the actual courtyard is on 16, so you might prefer to be there for easy access. If you are on 15, you can just take the stairs (or elevator) up one flight to the Haven area.

Thanks for any responses! This board is so helpful!

Hope this helps.

I know there have been a lot of Haven questions posted lately but I haven't been able to find answers to the following:

1 - Can you use your own coffee in the coffee/espresso machine in your suite?

I think the Getaway has the Nespresso machine (might still be Lavazza), so if you normally use that, possibly. But why would you?

2 - What is the Haven lounge? Is it just a bar? Is food served?

see triptolemus' video

3 - If we order regular room service, are we still charged the 7.95 convenience fee?

no

Is there a slip you sign, like in the specialties or do you leave cash? Do you tip the person who escorts you to your room on embarkation day?

that depends entirely on you. I dont believe the Haven restaurant has charge slips like the specialties, so it would either be cash or through Guest Services (know the person's name that you want to tip). Not sure people get individual escorts to rooms on the first day... you get escorted to the lounge/restaurant

5 - Is there an email to use for pre-cruise requests? I would like to have the mini bars emptied.

yes. NorwegianConciergeDesk@ncl.com

6 - Is there a Haven gym? I have read conflicting info on this.

there is not a full gym. A couple of cardio machines.

7 - Are the king beds able to be split into 2 twins?

possibly, it probably depends on the suite.

8 - For suites in the courtyard - do you prefer deck 15 or 16 and why?

havent been on Getaway, but in general, I like having cabins above me.

Thanks everyone!

Is the lounge open all day? How about the pool and hot tubs?

Lounge is open basically every time I went by and our room was right off of lounge. Pool I think is closed around 10:00. They put a net over it. I don't remember the hot tubs closing.

Regarding the gym, there is one on the Epic, but that is the only Haven that has a gym just for the Haven. It was small, but definitely usable.

My husband really missed it on the Escape this year.

Oh dear! I will be in the Haven on the Gem, and I had heard that there was a stationary bike and a treadmill in a small room there. Not true?

On the Jade in January, which would be very similar to Gem there was a treadmill and bike in the Haven area (small room at one end)

The bar in the lounge closes around 10-10:30 pm depending on the crowd.

I have seen nets over the hot tubs but it hasn't been consistant.

H1-H3 get complimentary bottle water and soda, along with a selection of alcohol.

H4 and lower do not, and have to pay for anything taken out of the mini bar.

The butler will be happy to put a pitcher of ice water in your mini-fridge for you, however!

The Gem class ships that have a Haven also have a small gym - I believe a treadmill and elliptical. It's very small.

My answers in red below:

I know there have been a lot of Haven questions posted lately but I haven't been able to find answers to the following:

1 - Can you use your own coffee in the coffee/espresso machine in your suite?

If it is in the same kind of pods that the machine takes, you can. It is a Lavazza machine so you need pods for that.

2 - What is the Haven lounge? Is it just a bar? Is food served?

Answered by others here.

3 - If we order regular room service, are we still charged the 7.95 convenience fee?

You order room service from your butler - anything you want from any venue that is open. There is no convenience fee. Regular room service is not allowed to deliver to anyone in a Haven suite, only your butler can do this.

No need to tip in the restaurant or lounge unless you want to. There is a tip included on all bar checks so that's why I say no need to tip. The tip will be charged to your onboard account automatically. Your prepaid tips go to your servers in the Haven restaurant and elsewhere. If you are especially pleased with someone's service, you can tip extra if you desire (bring cash for this).

5 - Is there an email to use for pre-cruise requests? I would like to have the mini bars emptied.

All you need to do is ask your cabin steward to do this.

6 - Is there a Haven gym? I have read conflicting info on this.

A very small gym.

7 - Are the king beds able to be split into 2 twins?

Depends on the specific suite but in most cases they cannot be split.

8 - For suites in the courtyard - do you prefer deck 15 or 16 and why?

The Haven Spa Suites on 15 are actually outside of the Haven. These are the suites we tend to prefer as we spend a lot of time in the spa and we don't mind going upstairs to get to The Haven. 16 and 17 are the suites that are within the actual Haven.

Thanks for any responses! This board is so helpful!
