Rock of Ages on Breakaway

Does anyone know if Rock of Ages is going to continue after Sept. 11th. Post on line stated that the performers contracts end on 9/11.

Also are reservations required and is it difficult to get into even with a reservation?

Reservations are honored on a first-come, first-served basis (except for those in Haven & Suites, where several rows of reserved seatings are held and the butler/concierge will "escort" the group in together) - doors open 30 minutes before showtime, show up early & you get to choose prime seating.

 

Otherwise, try to arrive no later than 15 minutes before showtime for "better" seats - they will swipe & check/match your keyboard to confirm your reservations. Seats considered no-shows are released (I think) 5 minutes before showtime so those on "standby" & waiting by the entrance can go inside & fill in / grab whatever remaining seats are left.

The show will probably run 5 years. Performers come and go as their contracts end.

 

A reservation allows you to get seats early. You can always go in standby. If the show is not sold out (status on the box office status boards) you can walk right in. If it is sold out, you need to wait until 10 min before the show. Two shows a night. At least two nights per week cruise.

Thats such a shame. We loved it and saw it a few times, I never saw anyone walk out.

 

It would be great if NCL would get a new show on the BA. I won't be seeing it again on my next cruise.

A little off topic but.... On the last night of the cruise the spa closes at 8pm. I lost track of time and ended up staying until 9pm. I got up from the heated lounger and realized after a minute that I was surrounded by performers from all three shows. Pretty cool to watch them "shop talk" about how many months they've been there and all.

That is fun! Did you hear any of them say how they liked living on the ship?

I think NCL has had amazing performers weather we like the shows or not is another issue. But IMO they are very talented.

Rock of Ages is a well known show. We have seen it twice in the BA and ashore. A classic show.

I am just off the Breakaway today and got into the 9:00 show in the standby line. At Howl at the Moon they mentioned that the cast was new this week.

I finally got an answer from NCL, it took them 2 days to get back to me. They said I stumped them. The show will continue but with a new cast. This cast leaves on 9-11-16.

This all started because I saw the show on B'Way and it was amazing. My best buddy is a union professional musician and he gets the trade papers, and noticed that the contract for these performers ends 2 weeks before our cruise and that there were no new auditions posted for a new cast to continue after that in any of the trade show biz papers.

I raved about the Broadway production and he wants to see the show, ( it's also his first cruise and his first vacation in 28 years) !!! So I wanted to check, which started this whole thing.

i presume the haven seats are up front but wanted to ask.

 

is there a special gathering place/time for haven guests to be escorted in together?

When looking at the stage, the haven seats are in the left section about half way up(20 or so rows). Not the best seats by any means.

I will be honest.. those seats in the Breakaway are so UNCOMFORTABLE I couldnt sit through the show , it felt like it was an eternity!!

Yulp, both times on the BA, they reserved several rows for Haven, might've been 3 or 4 at most - and marched them in as a group. Sorry, I had no clue where they met first for the escort but if you are sailing as such, I'm sure the concierge and/or butler will inform you.

 

We walked in about 15 or 20 minutes before showtime and sat a little further back, better for a quick egress :p This "VIP" seating area was maybe 6 or 7 rows ahead, half way down the movie theater (LOL, not exactly fitting to called it a show theater with the low ceiling & seats, as many noted - first impressions do matter). Most definitely, not up front & close - those're filled by early birds.

 

Simply lousy seat spacing and not a cup holder if you have a beverage, either hold that while watching or drink quick & leave it under the seat on the floor. Nice design - NOT :rolleyes:

Agreed... they are the most uncomfortable seats ever. Bleacher benches would be more comfortable than those seats. What is it with the bard in the back? It reminds me of a Seinfeld episode, but it is not funny when you are sitting there. I could barely wait for the show to end.

sounds like its best to find a seat toward the back at the end to leave if necessary. wonder if they could put pillows down to make them better.

This all started because I saw the show on B'Way and it was amazing.

 

I too saw it while in preview on Broadway and enjoyed the show. Looking forward to see what changes were made to fit Cruise ship size and schedule.

Still have the flashlight lighter from Broadway, maybe I'll bring it.

Saw the show on Broadway and thought it was fun. Also saw it on the ship and thought it was really good but for some reason it seemed a little more risque. Didnt reserve until I was actually on the ship and there was no problem getting a reservation. Some seats in that theatre were uncomfortable but tried a few other seats and found some comfortable ones.

There most certainly is a cup holder at each seat!!!! Cruised on the breakaway 5 times. LOVE rock of ages!

There is no need for an escort to shows in the breakaway theater as the seating is roped off for the Haven. They open that area to all passengers about 10 minutes before the show, so you need to be there before then if you want a seat there. If you are going to a show that requires an escort, (the Cirque show for example) the concierge will let you know where and when to meet them.
