Current OBC policy re: "cashing out"

I know there have been a myriad of posts on this topic. I'm asking for the most current information CC'ers may have.

We are doing a short, 3 day cruise in December, R/T LA, only port Ensenada. We do not even get off the ship in Ensenada. We are doing this to complete our quest for Elite status.

We will be going with $250.00 in OBC: Stockholder, TA, Princess generated. We do not plan to use Specialty Dining or Spa services. Is there any way to cash out this OBC? It used to be possible through the casino. Is this still the case? If so, please give specifics on how this is accomplished. We will use a small portion for gratuities ($38pp). We drink neither alcohol nor coffee so the coffee/beverage option is moot.

Thanks SO much for any insights!

what you do is set up your cruise card at the casino as if your playing the slots and put in your birthday and a password and then transfer what ever amount you wish from your cruise card to the machine and when finished just press cash out

if you dont know what to do get the casino staff to do it for you and even transfer the money across from your card to the machine but dont tell them that you want to cash out your OBC because they dont like being used as an ATM....by doing it that way there's no fees

BUT do play the slots for at least a couple of minutes. It's pretty obvious what you are doing if you just set up an account and immediately cash out.

Plus, you might win a little more $$.

I said might.:D

Besides being right about playing it's mandatory. If you put the money on your card without playing and try to cash out it freezes your account and the casino manager has to come investigate.

Absolutely true. It happened to me and I was actually playing. I charged $100 to my cabin then cashed out intending to put $20 back in the machine to play. They froze my account.

The OBC from TA may be refundable. You can view refundable and non-refundable OBC on the ship by looking at your account details. Once you get home, you get a check in the mail a few weeks later for the unused refundable OBC.

BTW, Princess will use your non-refundable OBC before using your refundable OBC.

When did that happen to you? Did you try to cash out immediately after the transfer?

We transfer money on the first night & always cash out on the last non-smoking night & never had a problem.

One could possibly find something in one of the onboard shops. You could buy a frivolous item that you might not normally purchase. You could use the OBC and consider the item essentially "free".

TA OBC is not refundable:(

Just about the only OBC that is refundable is veteran's.

I've done that a couple of times...it's "free" money.

Kind of like finding a $100 bill on the street.:D

Just returned home less than two weeks ago and we did transfer some OBC from our folio to the casino slots. As we usually do, we played some, lost some, and regained some. We then cashed out at the casino desk with no problem. We always make sure to actually play some in fear of this privilege being revoked. Maybe I am being paranoid, but it would not be surprised if Princess does not read this board.

Like others have said, the extra money makes it possible to not worry about overspending on board in the gift shops, the lounges, specialty dinners, etc.

Nice to have that "free" money so enjoy it!

Did you mean even without playing?

Correct. As the end of a cruise approached they're always reminding people to clean out their casino accounts....so we usually wait till almost the last day but prefer to cash out on a non-smoking night if we remember.
