Yes. Setting it up it without a credit card is called a cash account.

You will be allowed to charge up to $500 ($300 on shorter cruises) before being asked to pay down your account.

If you have OBC you may take it out in cash at guest services the last full day or you may take it out at the casino anytime during the cruise. Because you have a cash account the casino will not charge you the 5% fee. (You may have to remind them that you gave a cash account)

Just as a note, if the OBC is non-refundable (as in that issued by the cruiseline as part of a booking perk) it definitely sounds like you cannot get cash for it. This note is on my cruise documents:

"Please note: this onboard credit is subject to ship staff validation as the value may have changed after this document was issued due to any purchases made via the Cruise Planner. Additionally and amount cannot be used in the casino, nor can it be converted to cash. It must be used by the end of the cruise or it will be removed from the account."

I didn't have any OBC (RCCL-given or otherwise), so I can't say if this is new phrasing or not.

OBC given to you by your travel agent if you have one that is refundable I don't know about as I don't believe in travel agents. But if it's RCCL-issued I would not count on doing anything other than using it for purchases (drinks, specialty dining, Voom, excursions) on board.

if you set up a cash account on board can you use a currency card to settle your account ? its like MasterCard but you add the cash onto the card

our OBC is on 50 dollars per cabin so I am sure it will be easy to spend that

So far, there have been no reports of cash at the casino being refused.

Yes, this wording is new since the reported change to allow you to spend OBC through your Cruise Planner.

If you have a cash account, you must settle on the day of the cruise, usually the last evening, by going to Guest Services.

If you have a credit card account, the account is settled automatically, you don't need to go to Guest Services.

Can you set up your account with a debit card from my local bank? If you use cash do you put $ down when you board.

We always use a credit cards so we don't have to worry about this but we are taking our DD's friend and she is asking.

If you use a cash account, you don't have to put up any money up front. Royal lets you accumulate up to $500 in charges before they ask you to pay down the account.

You can use a debit card to secure your account, but I recommend against it. Better to use a cash account and pay it off with a debit card. That you you avoid any potential holds on your funds.
