Which itinerary is better?

Recommended Posts

I'm presentlying booked on Harmony next year for Labadee, Falmouth Jamaica and Cozumel. Wondering if I should switch weeks to do St. Martaan, San Juan Puerto Rico and Labadee? Any thoughts? I have unail midnight tonight to change. It's $67 more in total to change to the St. Martaan itinerary. Thanks everyone.

Just came back from Roatan Honduras, Costa Maya and Cozumel. Why do you prefer the Eastern itinerary?

Thanks for your replies :)

Love San Juan and St Maarten. Don't like Falmouth.

I would like those ports. It's Jamaica that I don't like. And I love Labadee, which isn't usually on the eastern itineraries. (I also don't like Nassau, which usually is on standard eastern itineraries).

So, of the choices, the eastern has all ports I like, and the western has 2 ports that I like but it also has Jamaica

If you want to snorkel at what I believe to be one of the best locations that I have experienced then I would do Roatan I have snorkeled many places including some famous for it (cayman, beize, barbados) but none were anything like the drop off at belize- It blew me away.

However I also really enjoyed St Maarten. San Juan was a let down for me (we had 4 nights there). I am not sure what I expected, but to me the beach area was very tacky sort of like benidorm (for uk's readers) although our hotel was lovely. And the old town I read so much about was a let down but I suppose that's because I have been spoiled touring many old continental EU towns/cities. (on saying that the roads were completely dug up as they were redoing the cobbles so my impression may have been skewed). Also couldn't do any of the national parks as the US government had got themselves tied up in some disagreement over money being released so the parks got closed while we were there- so maybe if we had seen more it would have left a better impression.

I know it's not one of the OP's options, but I've never seen better snorkeling than Bonaire.

Do a B2B Cruise. That way you get to do both itineraries.

Hahaha. That would be lovely...I'm willing to accept donations;)

I did actually book the new itinerary - although now I see they've extended the Wow sale again. I figured that with both trips booked I can take a little while to research the locations and then cancel one of them down the road a bit. In the meantime I'm only out of pocket the deposit. :)

I agree with many things that have been said regarding both itineraries. Here is my compaRISON OF THE ITINERARIES PORT BY PORT.

You are going to get Labadee either way so that is good. It is a very nice beach day. You will enjoy that.

We like both St Martin and Cozumel. Each has good beaches, shopping and other things to do depending on your preference for activities.

Comparing San Juan and Falmouth would be the deal breaker for me.

** San Juan is currently in a recession. We visited there in May and found the casino by the port closed. Even the Hard Rock Cafe was closed. But, it is a beautiful city and there is so much to do. [Old San Juan, forts, restaurants/shopping, Bacardi factory tours, etc]

**Falmouth does not have that much to do at the port. The port areas has American fast food venues, i.e. Auntie Anne's pretzels. We have been to Jamaica 4 times. The first time was a land based all inclusive, so that does not count. The second time we took a RCL tour to Dunn River Falls. This is the most popular thing to do from there. However, it is a good hour drive away and not cheap. I tried to organize a private tour from my roll call and could not get ANYONE to join. The next time we did a walking tour to get to know Falmouth. There was not much there. Nothing I would visit again. The last time we walked arounf the port and got back on the ship.

So, I would do Eastern.

YMMV
