Please help, additional credit card charge

My boyfriend and I were on the Getaway 9/18-25. He noticed a few days after we were back the charge for our onboard account, which we knew about, as well as a pending charge for $1200. He checked today and his card is still showing the pending charge for $1200, it hasn't come off yet. I have given him the number to call corporate, but was wondering is there anywhere or anyone else we can call? I know he wants to call NCL before calling his cc company. Thanks!!!

NCL typically places a hold on credit cards. It can last up to 3 weeks. It's just to make sure whatever your balance is on your onboard account goes through. The pending charge should disappear sometime in the next couple weeks.

Thank you. I knew they would place a hold, but I didn't realize it would last this long. When I looked for info last week most people said the held funds were dropped in a matter of days. I let my bf know. I think the OBC went through but the $1200 is still definitely pending.

How long the hold is actually there is up to your issuing bank, not NCL. This will vary with every single bank. Some banks range between 1-8 days, while others can last up to around 30. You can call your particular bank and ask them directly as to when the hold should come off.

Sometimes you can get NCL accounting department to call the bank and get the authorization removed.

On my last cruise, we had multiple rooms/people/accounts tied to my AMEX, so the charges were very high, and there were "pre-approvals" going thru nearly every day. The final bill was in excess of 8000. and went through the day after we disembarked. Nevertheless, AMEX did not and would not release those pre-approvals for more than 3 weeks, claiming that even though an 8000. charge had come through, the amount of that charge did not match up with the multiple "pre-approvals" so I had to wait 30 days from the date of each pre-approval for it to drop off. To say I was annoyed would be a gross understatement.

How is this a good example? OP is using a credit card not a debit card.

I had the impression they were just commenting in general and not towards me since, I was specific to say credit card.

As I said above, I would never use a debit card for this or any other sort of travel expenses.

This happened to us last Dec on Getaway. Charges were processed through credit card but the hold stayed for weeks. We were trying to get our card switched to a lower interest during this time and the bank said we needed to call NCL and have them release the hold so that it wouldn't be pending. It took three calls (disconnects a couple times) and about 45 minutes on hold until it was resolved via NCL cust service.

Not sure if this happens every time as this was our first NCl cruise. It is not this way on RCCL - just a couple days after the actual charge comes through.

Do you remember where you called? Was it corporate?

I have taken a previous cruise through NCL, on the Getaway, and don't recall having a hold on that long.

I just put down cash. Every couple days I add a hundred or so. When we sail, everything is pre paid or a promo and our bill is minimal.

Sounds like a huge hassle. I give them my CC once at embarkation and it is done.

Lol. How is this a hassle? I give them $300 when we board and then if we are low and walking pass guest services, I'll add a hundred. I like to keep it that way, the kids in the arcade and me in the casino are our only charges on our account. I know I can limit the kids spending, but to me, that is a hassle

To each their own.

Simple...worrying about how much is left on the account before I am cut off and having to stand in line at guest services several times to add a $100 at a time is a hassle.

It serves no purpose. I give them my CC and no more interaction is required, it is like magic with no checking the balance or standing in line.

"Pending" charges mean nothing...it will go away on it's own, if you don't owe that! No worries! If, all of a sudden, you actually get charged something you don't owe, take it up with your credit card company right away! "Pending" is NOT a "charge"!!!!

Why would you deposit your casino money to OBC just to pay a 3% charge on it? Makes sense if your bill is settling to a CC, but not with cash.

Um, what? You walk up to a machine and stick a twenty in it. What does that have to do with credit cards or OBC? I play on ships just like I do on land. All the machines take cash. Isn't that how 99% of passengers play?

While I appreciate everyone's concern on how I handle my on board account, please keep your theories and habits to yourself. I like my way and will continue to do it the way i prefer to do it. I was off CC for over a year....now it's coming back to me. If someone doesn't do something they way you feel they should, then they are judged to be wrong. It's the ole "my way or the highway". Lighten up people.

You could lighten up a little yourself… No one judged you to be wrong for using a cash account or told you to stop doing it. They said it sounds like a hassle and it wasn't for them. Why is OK for you to declare your preferences, but everyone else has to keep their theories and habits to themselves?

You need to call the bank, they are the ones that can remove the hold, but they probably won't. You can expect it to remain for 30 days.
